I travel mostly in the EU, mid-size to larger cities, and I don’t think I ever had a problem finding a gym with good selection of barbells and benches, not too crowded at the times I go there. Sometimes even the ones at hotels are good enough for me (I always check gym photos when placing a booking).

What places you had problems finding gyms in? Is it much different outside of Europe? Or you’re more referring to the community aspect of it?

main thing is the people. I love working out at places where people are serious about it and because of this I don't enjoy commercial gyms.

Gyms I love the most are places where people usually prepare for competitions and such.

When I used to live in london, I loved Legends in dalston.

Tiny place, kinda destroyed equipment, but the people were great

Makes sense, in this case I have no idea. Sounds like I’m looking for the opposite 🙃 Maybe if you search for lifting communities, rather than gyms it may be easier. I think communities survive longer than specific gyms.

hehe yeah. still trying to figure out 'how' to look this kind of gyms. tried to look for 'powerlifting gyms' or 'body building gyms' but not much luck.

at this point i think it's just checking for gyms at different locations and if lucky you get that kind.

You mentioned that you like when people train for competitions. So working backwards, I would check who participates in these competitions, label them by city, look which cities are overrepresented, and then find out where exactly people train in those cities (which gyms). Most of the info should be public (competition records + social media).

Similar logic works in swing dancing, that I was quite into a few years ago: if you want to find out which cities are great for swing dancing, then you check who wins dancing competitions, then check which schools they teach at, and you know where to go.
