Beppu |

|
Iโve been living in Beppu, Japan for the past 4 yearsโand honestly, itโs one of those places that quietly grows on you until you canโt imagine leaving. At first, Beppu feels small. Itโs not Tokyo, not even Fukuoka. But thatโs exactly its charm. Mornings here are slow and intentional. Steam rises from the streets like the town is breathing. You grab a coffee, walk past locals heading to the onsen, and everything just feelsโฆ grounded. Thereโs no rush, no pressure to constantly be โdoing something.โ The biggest surprise? How livable it is as a digital nomad. Rent is affordable compared to big cities in Japan. You can find quiet places to work, and if youโre staying somewhere like an onsen ryokan or co-living space, your daily routine naturally becomes balancedโwork, soak, eat, repeat. And the onsensโฆ theyโre not a โonce-in-a-whileโ luxury here. They become part of your lifestyle. After a long work session, you just go soak. It resets your mind in a way coffee never can. Nature is everywhere. Within 30โ60 minutes, you can be in the mountains, waterfalls, or even Yufuin for a change of pace. Yet, you still have everything you need in town. Of course, itโs not perfect. If youโre looking for fast nightlife or endless social events, you might feel limited. You have to create your own rhythm here. But for people who want focus, creativity, and a slower, more intentional lifeโitโs a hidden gem. Beppu doesnโt try to impress you. It just lets you live. And somehow, thatโs exactly why it stays with you. |
