we should organize a meetup for people in Paris
Pre-Covid when this was on Slack and Chiang Mai was a hot spot, there was a dedicated Chiang Mai channel.
we're plenty
good old Slack days ๐Ÿ˜”
Yep, definitely a before & after
This is now unusable as an information repository like the slack was
I wonder whatโ€™s the point of it

Slack can get quite expensive
How long do you stay?
๐Ÿšจ Hey everyone, quick heads-up!

I got scammed by a fake "Honda" dealership listed here on Google Maps in Bogotรก: https://g.co/kgs/t4vpzkz

They look legit with lots of good reviews, but it's all fake. I transferred money for a motorcycle and never received anything โ€” they used real-looking invoices, insurance, and even pretended to be from Avianca Cargo. Total scam.

I lost $7,000 CAD in this scam lol.

Iโ€™ve already filed reports with the police, embassy, and the bank, but we need to get this Google Maps listing taken down ASAP to prevent others from falling for it.

Please help by:

1. Leaving a 1-star review explaining itโ€™s a scam.
2. Clicking the โ€œSuggest an editโ€ > โ€œClose or removeโ€ > โ€œDoesnโ€™t exist hereโ€ to flag the listing.

Thank you so much ๐Ÿ™
Yep I know. No excuse to use Telegram tho ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
On another note, Iโ€™m in Guatapรฉ right now โ€” if anyone wants to hang out, let me know!
It's better to stay in the north. From Chapinero to Usaquen it's safe and you have nice/fancy bar/restaurants.
And just take Uber (very cheap) to go to the center (I guess by center you mean Candelaria)
wherever the action is really, doesn't have to be center, but the main nightlife
Yes you will be close, you have a lof of club / bars in the beginning of Chapinero and in different area the more north you go.

But for the accommodation it's better more up north. I was staying next to Theatron club, it's better to take something a bit more in the north, Theatron area is like the border between the hood and the normal area there ๐Ÿ˜…
Here the best area for the accommodation, it's safe you can even walk around.
thank you man i appreciate it, are you there at the moment?
Barcelona (house especially), Amsterdam (all genres), and Bangkok (festivals) had a decent amount as well. Depends on the genre, as most people think EDM just refers to shuffling influencer festival music. For me, when I see the term, I think 'electronic dance music', and my genres are more deep house, house, downtempo, nu disco, etc. The UK is way up on the list for all genres, especially UKG, house, trance, techno. Berlin for obvious reasons regarding the latter...

Da Nang is probably not my first choice for that kind of stuff, lol. But I imagine all the bigger Asian cities will have decent scenes, based on what I've seen as a dance music artist myself.
Looking for nomads who have spent time in Marseille!

Will be in Lyon & then Marseille. April 8-17.
Planning a 4 day trip in April to Santa Marta, any recommendations on what to see? What are the best beaches? Restaurants? Where to snorkel? What places to see
No but I stayed there 3 weeks in January. Now I am going to Barranquilla then Santa Marta and will be back in Bogota for a few days in April from 12 to 17
Is the water potable here? Anybody know
Iโ€™m not so into that anymore but I would probably go with Mexico City
Yes, potable. Iโ€™ve been drinking with no issue
4gnlex in #chile 1d
I wouldn't recommend, the government says it's safe but few locals actually do. Unless you're in a hotel and they tell you explicitly that it's safe, better buy some bottled water to drink
There are some on meetup
Ive drinking it for two years ๐Ÿ˜‡ brita filter needed tho, too much calcium carbonate
Yeah, I carry a portable brita filter too. Thanks.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
uhm, local here. I and most (all?) people I know drink it. some people just preferred bottle, but unless you're in the north near a mining town, it is safe.
indeed Discord could be a better alternative at this point. The community is getting almost useless too many messages lost in the noise, hard to look for info, difficult to coordinate any initiative
true but when someone is proud of making 30k per month from this community maybe paying 10k per month as cost for Slack to ensure that this keeps giving value is worth it?
for those interested this was the rationale in dropping Slack back then (I am not saying he is completely wrong, I am saying that the current setup is not a solution to the problem as sure he got rid of the cost but the experience sucks for the community) -> https://x.com/levelsio/status/1858622268189868390
Iโ€˜m new, so itโ€™s hard to tell, but I quite like it here :)

Some kind of knowledge base would be nice, because Iโ€˜m sure things like โ€žbest gym inโ€ฆโ€œ will be asked frequently

I use Slack for my own community, but itโ€™s only small (15 people), which is perfect!

Circle might also be an option, Discord is fine as well.
interesting I thought most of us would agree that the current setup sucks thanks for sharing your opinion. Thatโ€™s one of my points: itโ€™s a recurring of same questions and those generous people that replied back then canโ€™t keep doing it again and again (that too for free or with no status/whatsoever forming in the community). Those questions also get mixed up with more real-time things and/or coordination for meetups/events -> itโ€™s a mess

More and more people also pop-in, ask a question, get the answer (sometime donโ€™t even thank) and vanish without creating any long-term value as a community

Agreed with you Circle itโ€™s a great option we are using it in our startups for customers to connect with each and they love it! (and the bill should be nowhere close to Slackโ€™s one even at the scale of this community)

I mean honestly itโ€™s not that much different than it was during slack in terms of community. But meetups have fallen off in telegram for some reason
interesting for me threaded conversations are day and night difference compared to what we have now but alright then maybe itโ€™s just me ๐Ÿ˜‡
Oh well yeah threads were way better thatโ€™s true
oh man I think someone replied to this and got timed out himself ๐Ÿ˜‚ this is almost like policing conversations
No Nomads in Jamaica ?
Anyone in Miami ?
There must be some in patagonia and Bariloche. Maybe join the patagonia tourist groups on FB. Youโ€™ll find some digital nomads but maybe not exactly nomad community per se. I stayed like a month in Patagonia, did W Trek and allโ€ฆ ran into some solo women on the trek but theyโ€™re not all digital nomads. I may have joined some activity groups in santiago i can dig up for you as well.

Anyone used one of these services like tbilisivirtualoffice.com? Seems shady af ๐Ÿ˜… "We will establish you a Georgian company. Even without a trip to Tbilisi" from 750 GEL ๐Ÿค” Is that even possible?
jmibl in #georgia 17h
For sure, good to be skeptical, but it doesn't sound totally impossible (you could probably set up a UK company online from any country).

I use a virtual address for my business which is run by Expathub (which are legit / the branded option in the market and might charge something like what you've found). But I did at least some of the registration in person.
Thanks! ๐Ÿ™ I've literally just sent a message to ExpatHub ๐Ÿ˜… Is there really no need to go there in person? ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Interesting

Tuesday Coworking this week? Or anything else happening in next 3-4 days
Tuesday Coworking is on this week as usual, join us at West Coffee on Julio Correa

I'll repost the event now so you can see the details.
boris_k in #georgia 16h
Yes, I opened it remotely back in the day. But you need a Georgian bank account to pay taxes. This is significantly more difficult to open remotely (not sure if possible at all).
boris_k in #georgia 16h
Ofc, someone could pay them for you but that would be a huge inconvenience. Also need a Georgian phone number to register a tax account.
Also note that Google probably has your time wrong this morning if you are in Paraguay ๐Ÿ˜‚
Daylight savings time isn't changing this year but a lot of Android phones don't know this ๐Ÿ™ƒ
iOS seems to be good

Are there any co-living villas in Canggu specifically for entrepreneurs?

Any experiences with that?
Hey everyone ๐Ÿค“ Iโ€™m doing some research for a piece Iโ€™m writing and I would love to hear your favorite booksโ€”books that have inspired you as a nomad, or if you are entrepreneurial or artistic (which I find many nomads are). Or just favorite books in general. ๐Ÿ“š

Vagabonding by Ralph Pots was THE book that inspired it all.

Stumbled on it at Barnes and Nobles on union square in NYC one afternoon 15 or so years ago. Changed my life forever. :)
Love that B&N! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for sharing
It was probably The Alchemist for me, originally โœจ

Oh that one is great too!!!
If anyone recommends other reading resources that are not books, that's great, too. For example, besides The Alchemist, what probably spurred my nomad life is The Art of Nonconformity blog by Chris Guillebeau, back in its infancy in 2008!

4 Hour Work Week is the classic.
Some guy just released Digital Nomad Nation. I havenโ€™t read it yet though. He gave out a free version for the opening weekend which I can DM you if you like.
