Hey guys, just joined the tg community recently. I am from Floripa and I can argue is the best city in Brazil. Giving a quick resume here cuz I just woke up haha
South and East of Floripa -> Campeche, Armação, Lagoa da Conceição more roots side of the island, beautiful and more nature preserve part imho. Campeche rent went up in the less couple of years and a lot of nomads tend to come to this side as well

Centro -> Downtown, its great, close to everything but I guess you came here to live on the beach hahs

North of Floripa like Jurere is the rich side and its beautiful but more slow paced . Ingleses is like another city inside floripa with a lot of argentina people lol
Praia Brava and Praia do Santinho are great beaches to visit on the north as well

Anywhere rawai is great
Recommend near Naiharn beach

If you want a busier surrounding at night, then near rawai beach is a better option. Also, there is a local market which you might like for local food. Not too far from nai harn and the capes for hiking

Madeira ticks all the boxes - except being walkable. The island is steep and the beauty is outside of Funchal. If you are not comfortable getting yourself a rental car to explore I'd recommend going somewhere else.
Otherwise you're just stuck in Funchal and miss out on the actual beauty.

If beach is important to you then the Canaries might be the better choice. Madeira doesn’t have natural beaches (except the small black one un Seixal).
I’m personally a fan of the South-West, anywhere between Calheta (where I had my apartment) and Ponta do Pargo. Beautiful nature, stunning views, good food!
