Iโll start โ I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 19 (Iโm now 32). I wear a Medtronic insulin pump that stays attached to me pretty much 24/7. One of the unique packing considerations I will have to make is how to fit as many consumable insulin pump supplies as I can into my backpack/roller bag.
The more I can fit, the longer I can do without refilling in an unknown area (there is a Medtronic rep in Bangkok that Iโve gotten in touch with, but when your life depends on something, you donโt take it lightly).
One of these little sandwich bags contain a single โset changeโ which lasts 3 days.
At the same time, weโre trying to consider our health insurance needs. I donโt want to take my ~$1,000/month USA insurance policy expense with me in areas that it will not be accepted, but at the same time, Cigna Global and other such traveler medical insuranceโs uniformly donโt cover pre-existing conditions.
Iโve gone without insurance before, and in an area like Thailand, Iโm thinking I can get by with just paying retail cost for medicine and any needed doctor visits.
Iโd love to hear from other type 1 diabetics, or really anyone who has had to consider such medical needs while nomading.
