Hi there - Iโm planning a coding retreat with my two cofounders somewhere in Thailand or Vietnam for a month.
Are there any nice beach towns outside of Phuket in Thailand that have fast internet and are relatively cheap in Thailand?

Has anyone figured out a way to get setup with a virtual number and internet connection anywhere you go?
After being told it's unworkable in Puerto Escondido, looking for alternatives :)
Hi, my name is Eric and I am a remote worker from Norway. Me and a friend is flying into Gran Canaria on Friday and spending two weeks in San Agustin on the south side of the Island.
After that we are pondering about staying in La Gomera. Does anyone of you have an experience staying there or are there anyone of you staying there now? :)
I'm thinking to head over to France during the winter and I'm looking for recommendations on a good French town that has beach and is warm enough during the winter.
What are your favourites? Any recommendation is appreciated.
Hi guys!
If youโve been to Puerto Escondido, Mazunte, Zipolite, etc, please share your experience with the internet there.
What speeds did you get up/down? Where?
How solid and consistent was the connection?
How common are blackouts and loss of power?
Any other tips, favorite places to work, etc?
Which towns have decent internet?

Thanks so much!
Normally, when I go abroad for a longer period of time, I try to take as much medication with me from my home country as I can for that period. Which so far has worked well for me.
But if Iโm going to be a full-time nomad that wonโt work anymore. Mainly because Iโll then unregister from my country. Which has some downsides like not being able to have my current health insurance anymore. Other health insurance companies wonโt cover existing conditions, so Iโll have to buy my medication โover the counterโ.
But since I need some medication which in The Netherlands (and I assume other countries) is only available on a doctors prescription. I was curious how people here arrange that (if there are any in the same boat as me).
The main medication I think would be hardest for me (and most expensive) to get is Epoetin-Alpha (Aranesp) injections.
Since thereโs not really a โworld wide standarizedโ doctor prescription form, how do you get the medication abroad? Do you have a checkup there again at a local clinic before you can get the medication? (That would probably add to the cost too).
Hi! I am looking to slow travel Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Managua, Granada, Ometepe and then on to Liberia area in Costa Rica. Does anyone have experience with the internet in these places? I have to do Skype consults during the week and really need reliable internet.
Thanks for any help
My question is about the actual experience of staying outside of major cities, as well as where/how (on this site or elsewhere) to search to find questions and discussions about the same.
Sometimes I like being in the big city, but sometimes I like being away from it. For many people with โregular jobsโ you have little choice but to be in a big metro area since thatโs where the jobs are; for me, part of the appeal of considering DN is sometimes being able to work someplace quiet, remote, secluded and beautiful- rather than a concrete jungle.
Iโm curious whoโs actually done stuff like this. Because while it sounds great, I could also imagine all sorts of unpredictable problems that might not be an issue when one is way off the beaten path that wouldnโt come up if one were in a big metro area.
Looking to spend a month or so (March/April of โ19) in a beach town(s) in Southern Italy, anybody have good experience down there?
You can look up the Iglu company in Thailand. It is a legal way of working in Thailand with a work permit for digital nomads. Are there other companies in Thailand offering work permits for digital nomads? They charge you 30% of your salary, which is a lot. Are there other companies charging less than Iglu or have a different pricing scheme?
Everything is in the title.
Iโm working on a big project so I will need fast internet (>15 mbps).
If itโs close to the beach, it would be even better.
Thanks !!
Any digital nomads that have lived for an extended period of time on a pacific island? I am planning on moving with my girlfriend for a 6 month period to a pacific island, and planning to live of copywriting and some other online work.
Have been looking at islands like Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Cook Islands ++. Main problem is that many places seem to have expensive/bad internet speeds and access.
I dontยดt need superfast internet, but it has to be good enough for me to surf, send e-mails, download pictures, update webpages and so on. Either good internet cafes or the possibility to rent appartments with internet that doesnt suck or blow our budget.
Any recommendations for the perfect pacific island for working online?
Im looking to make my first venture into nomad living this September and keep leaning back towards Bocas del Toro.
Does anyone have experience setting up shop there? Iโm open to other warm weather surf towns as well
Starting a SaaS company that assists the operation of service based industries so being near some other SaaS people would be wonderful. (First time starting a tech company)
Looking to spend around 6 weeks somewhere in Europe this winter skiing and working. Donโt need a big tech community but care more about it being affordable and having at least half decent skiing.
So far I have heard good things about Les Deux Alpes, France and Bansko, Bulgaria.
Hi guys.
Iโll be travelling to Peru soon to volunteer and thinking to teach online in Cusco. Iโm wondering what the best set-up would be for speeds high enough to teach via video-platform online. Iโm open to getting a SIM Card with a data package, getting a dedicated internet provider for a private apartment or using an ethernet cable to increase speed.
Thank you,
Seda
As an American Citizen, would it be safe to fly into Thailand without a visa? You can get a 30 day upon entry right?
The reason I ask is, Iโm in the process of getting my passport. Iโd like to leave basically as soon as my passport arrives in the mail. Iโm unable to apply for a Thai Visa until I have my passport, so that would require an even longer wait.
Would I be able to fly into Thailand with no visa, then get a 30 day entry, then apply for an education visa while inside the country? Once I go, Iโd like to not have to return to the US. I donโt mind if I have to take a bus/flight to a neighboring country for however long if I must leave while I wait for an education visa.
I landed a remote job that is fully remote with only one team skype meeting a week. Iโm looking to leave around March 13th and stay 1 - 3 months in each place. The first place I want somewhere that is warm with good surf. For the group video chat I need at least 5/2 down/up reliable internet. Any recommendations for a place that meets that end of March - April?
Iโve read through the forums / nomads list. Iโve already done Costa Rica and Indo and would like to try somewhere new. Currently looking at Sayuliata Mexico, Canary Islands, and Morocco though I think Iโll wait on the second two since they sound like they are better in the fall.
Thanks!
Any recommendations for a few weeks stay in a small, quiet town or village somewhere in Italy/France during summer ? Open to any setting, by the seaside, in the mountains or the countryside - Iโd like to get a feel for local life (outside the cities) in a charming place.
Having hiking routes available nearby would be a bonus, but not required.
Internet speed will not be very important, so that does not need to be taken into consideration.
Iโll likely be doing both Italy and France, so suggestions for both would be great.
Hi guys!
Iโm originally from Ukraine and now traveling through SEA.
And I was thinking about potential possibility to apply for US visa in any of South East Asian countries.
Does anyone has successful experience of getting US visa in SEA region?
Or maybe it is not possible and I have to apply from my home country?
(for example, friend of mine from Ukraine tried to apply for South Korean visa in Bangkok, but they refused to do so and asked him to apply for the visa from Ukraine)
Thanks in advance!
Hello Nomads,
I would like to move in Thailand for 6-9 months starting from August.
Iโll definetely stay in Chiang Mai as base for most of the time but Iโd like to do the first month (August) in Bangkok or somewhere else.
What place would you recommend to visit first?
Would Bangkok be a good place to be during August?
I was also checking at the east coast isles but I got a little frightened out by the moonsoon idea but still, it would be cool to go to beaches and have some sun during that month .
Would the moonsoons or the rain really be a problem?
Iโll move to Chiang Mai from september anyway but I would just like to start somewhere else since I have to wait for my girlfriend to come during september.
Thank you in advance for your advices,
Sorry for the bad english,
Andrea
