Hi, I have spent the last 4 years as a digital nomad traveling in Europe. I am fortunate in that I am a dual national (UK and USA) so, for now at least, I can travel freely within the EU without a visa. I earn my living as a web designer, hiring coders through UpWork. Iโm also a writer, and just finished my first book about my travels which I am in the process of self-publishing in print and ebook.
The way I travel is by housesitting, which enables me to live like a local for medium to long periods (3 months) in any given country. This provides a home base which is actually a home rather than a hotel or shared accomodation. There are a number of websites that enable this to great success.
When Iโm not housesitting, Iโm touring using the hospitality network CouchSurfing.com. I have made many friends using this and if you use the search filters properly, you can find hosts in your age group who tend to have nicer homes with guest rooms, rather than a couch in the living room ![ ]()
When Iโm not doing either of these, I visit my daughter and her family in the UK.
Most of my friends are very active on social media, so I have to counter your argument, busdriver, that we are more offline. I am more online than I have ever been, not only due to my profession.
I donโt have a list of blogs for you, kathrynoh, but Iโm happy to converse more about life on the road. I am in the process of starting my own blog, so that I can offer when it is launched.
I just turned 60.
