Barbados is considered one of the friendliest and warmest destinations in the Caribbean, with consistently good weather and a local culture that is welcoming to foreigners, especially remote workers. Internet connectivity is generally reliable, making it a solid choice for digital nomads. The government is supportive of remote work, offering a visa specifically for this purpose, and many find the island life peaceful and enjoyable overall.
On the downside, the cost of living is repeatedly described as very high — prices can rival those of major cities like Zurich, yet some feel the quality of goods and services does not match the cost. Safety concerns are increasingly cited in recent experiences, particularly isolated incidents of violence and civil crime in tourist zones. Public transportation is not dependable, and cultural inconveniences such as persistent street harassment are reported, especially for women.
Overall, Barbados continues to attract people for its climate, friendliness, and work-from-paradise appeal. However, the combination of rising crime and high living costs are making some potential long-term visitors and remote workers reconsider, particularly when other islands may offer better overall value.

Barbados is still the safest Caribbean island. Expensive yes but value for money. If you want low quality go elsewhere. The vibe is island living so don’t expect everything speedily. People are friendly, well dressed and well educated. It cannot be beat.

Warm weather, good internet, relatively safe although crime is increasing due to higher unemployment, public transport is unreliable, cost of living is very high, sexual harassment of women is very common, quality of food is very low.
Nice place overall but there are certainly better value for money alternatives, even in the Caribbean.

I am currently in Barbados , yes agree it is expensive, cost of living is crazy high, value for money it is not .
Safety is a growing concern, just this week saw another home invasion and sexual assault on Brittish travellers in the St James district. Gun violence and robbery is fast becoming an issue if you read the local news .
Would not recommend , there are many nicer and safer places in the world .
Barbados is third world quality at prices comparable to Zurich.

I'm currently working remotely from Barbados an a lot has changed since these reviews. Yes, it is expensive. No, it is not dangerous. There are plenty of cafes to work from, things to do, English IS the official language, and Bajans are incredibly friendly and welcoming to foreigners. They are encouraging remote workers to apply for the Welcome Stamp which allows you to live and work "in paradise" for a year. It really does feel like you're living in a dream. It's a beautiful island!
