I have to disagree with some of the scores: there is NO freedom of speech when it comes to the Royal Family, government or Islam. Anyone who speaks in a derogatory way about the government, royal family or Islam will be deported (or jailed if they are Bruneian). There is NO freedom of the press either. Downtown Bandar is walkable if you don't mind the heat, but a car is 100% a necessity living in Brunei. There is a small bus service that runs at apparently random times, but no other public transit in the country. The English level is very good. Almost everyone can speak English and it is the language of instruction in all public schools from kindergarten.
