How to keep laptops clean in grimy environments

I’m working for a few weeks near the sea and I need wifi. All the cafes are lined up on the main street running parallel to the beach. None of the cafes are air conditioned, relying on the wind to cool them. The ones that are more sheltered are incredibly hot during the day; the cooler ones tend to be grimier.

I’ve found a few places that are midway between heat & grime and further away from the beach. But the grime is worrying me. I have a soft cloth to wipe down my laptop down before returning it to its case, but I’m not sure what else might help.

Any other advice for keeping your laptop clean when you’re working in this kind of environment? Any kit I should have brought along with me?

Hey Enrico. Thanks for the suggestions. The shell looks yummy & the plugs very useful. I’m not sure if the keycap covers are a good idea. Apple warns against them.

As for the stand you suggest, Pieter has voiced a valid concern:

I think having a light laptop stand you can whip out to use with an external keyboard and mouse is pretty neat. But it needs to be a bit higher up – and then, of course, you also need to carry the rest of the peripherals.

I would say a silicon shell + silicon keyboard protection which is always great to have, a cheap laptop stand to avoid having the laptop close to dirty/grimy surfaces and maybe even silicon caps for the plugs to avoid grimy wind to blow into your laptop…

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

The next products/features I have planned:

- 🛂 Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

I have a one way ticket and two laptops, is it suspicious?

Has anybody traveled as a DN with a one way ticket and two laptops?

I’m going to Chile in a couple weeks and I only have a one way ticket and I’m going to Argentina after Chile. I don’t know when so that is why I still have not bought my onward ticket to Argentina but I will go there before my Chilean visa expires. I’m also going to carry my work windows laptop and my personal mac with me.

Now my question is, is this enough reason for an immigration officer to get suspicious and not let me in Chile? What would you tell them if they try to give me a hard time about my one way ticket and two laptops?
