Recommendation for English Speaking GP in Berlin?

in Berlin , Germany by @tammy 6yr  | 0 comments

Hello! I am looking for an English speaking GP in Berlin who can write a prescription for schedule 1 medication. Currently I am in Northern Ireland who have a very complicated medical system, which is not Digital Nomad friendly! I would like to make an appointment with a GP who can help me ASAP. Thanks!

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 4yr 4 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 4yr 4 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 4yr 4 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 4yr 4 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Val

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 4yr 4 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Internet Speed (Teaching English Online)

by @teacher 7yr 7 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi guys.

Iโ€™ll be travelling to Peru soon to volunteer and thinking to teach online in Cusco. Iโ€™m wondering what the best set-up would be for speeds high enough to teach via video-platform online. Iโ€™m open to getting a SIM Card with a data package, getting a dedicated internet provider for a private apartment or using an ethernet cable to increase speed.

Thank you,
Seda

Worried about English fluency when finding a job in Ireland?

in Ireland by @gonzalezveroni94 7yr 7 years ago  | 1 comment

Hi Nomads!

Iโ€™m Veronica, a spanish graduate of computer science. I moved to Dublin to get a job and I have an interview next week. I have a good fluency for now but I am worried I will not be able to speak to my co-workers about specific topics because I am not a native speaker. I can talk about general things but I worry my english is not good enough to talk about what I am trained in.

Does anyone else face this problem when moving to new countries? If so, how did you overcome this? Thanks!!

Digital Nomad for Refugees in Germany - Any ideas?

in Germany by @wasabi 8yr 8 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi Iโ€™m Japanese<>English Translator/Blogger currently lives in Leipzig,Germany.

I was wondering if any of you know any websites/services for refugees and immigrants that support them to be a Digital Nomad? Like, seminars, courses, lectures, guides, e-book in their language (Arabic,Albanian,Serbian,Kurdish,Pashto,Dari, etcโ€ฆ)?

I know some platforms for refugees to find a job online, but these jobs are not mainly location free works. Iโ€™m wondering how realistic it is for refugees to work remotely? I am thinking to list up the Upwork type of online job platforms on my blog, and accordingly do some seminars ; how to get jobs, how to monetize your blog and so onโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m asking this because lots of refugees I meet here are all complaining how hard for them to get a physical job in Germany, especially my area Leipzig has less job opportunities in general. (Thus, cost of living is amazing for DN like me.) So, I think going DN could be a good solution for them. What do you think?

Meetups in Berlin

in Berlin , Germany by @innaboch 8yr 8 years ago  | 6 comments

Are there regular meetups for Nomads in Berlin? I will be spending a month in Berlin and would like to meet and get to know the community. I had a great experience in Ubud, Bali (meetups, workshops, idea exchanges etc) and looking for something similar in Berlin. Any thoughts and ideas?

Thank you,
Inna

Is there a Chinese to English universal translator?

by @fcohen 9yr 9 years ago  | 5 comments

Hi Nomadistas, Iโ€™m considering Shanghai this Summer. I an American from California. I speak English, French, Swiss German, and Italian. I work for myself and will be writing a novel, unrelated to China. How is it going to be language wise to live and get around? Is there a universal translator app for my Android phone/TMobile?

Can I stay in Vietnam as a dependent spouse if my partner (wife) is teaching English?

in Vietnam by @elephanttalk 9yr 9 years ago  | 5 comments

After taking lots of small trips around the world as vacations, weโ€™ve fallen in love with Southeast Asia and have decided to go there to teach English. Well, sort of - my wife is certified and will be teaching. I plan to use the time to develop an app that I have been trying to work on during nights and weekends up to this point. I figure I can live modestly and work on it full time for a year and see if I can get it โ€œdoneโ€ enough to actually launch after a yearโ€™s work!

I donโ€™t plan to make any money while there, and I donโ€™t want to get a job (poor meโ€ฆ) just to enable me to stay - I just want to work on my app (unpaid) full time. I plan to try to get a TT visa (http://immigrationservices.com.vn/visas-tt-vr/), and she will hopefully be on the Lฤ visa (https://visa.mofa.gov.vn/NewsDetail.aspx?type=Info&id=28#sec1).

Hereโ€™s the wrinkle: most advice I find online (admittedly geared toward those travelling solo) tends to recommend going on a tourist Visa and finding a job, housing, neighborhood that you like in person, and then getting your employer to sponsor your work permit, then using that to get the business (Lฤ) visa. Indeed, a lot of resources say it can be hard to find a reputable language school to hire you and sponsor your visa before entering the country.

If we both went on tourist visas, and she found work and was able to get a work permit, could I then convert my tourist visa to a TT (dependent spouse) visa? Is there any way to be sure that this is going to work besides just going and hoping?

As a follow up if that plan sounds too sketchy, should I get certified to teach English just in case I need to get my own job? Iโ€™d like to avoid it if I can, the certification and training is pretty expensive.

Worst case scenario, how many times can I do a visa run and stay on a DL (tourist) visa? Maybe Iโ€™m just bad at researching, but I canโ€™t find a really good resource for this kind of information.

I hope this isnโ€™t asking too much. Even a link to some more in-depth resources online would be greatly appreciated - I canโ€™t seem to find any definitive information on people using the TT visa in Vietnam.

Thanks in advance!

How do you survive hanging out with a group of people that don't speak English well?

by @tylerf 9yr 9 years ago  | 6 comments

Iโ€™ve been living in countries where English isnโ€™t spoken that well among the population.

Most of the time I hang out 1-on-1 with a native that speaks good english.

And thatโ€™s because when Iโ€™m in a group where most people donโ€™t speak good English, itโ€™s painful and awkward.

You feel bad if everyone switches to English just because of you, but at the same time you feel totally left out if everyone speaks their native language which you donโ€™t understand much about.

Have you guys faced such situations before?
How did you handle it?
