Whatโs up there?
Is there anyone working for/running a social innovation project while on the road?

Iโm curious whether anyone drove to Mexico instead of flying and used their car down there. Iโve heard bad stories of people driving down there but not sure I believe them. How safe is it to drive through rural areas, and to park in cities? It would be cool to have the car to explore while there.

What do you use to work together remotely with your team?
I know Slack, Hipchat and Hall.
Which ones do you guys use and why?
Any long terms Project Fi users cancelled?
Planning on being outside of the US for a year or more and disappointed to just discover their โtermination for excessive international roamingโ fine print (similar to T-Mobileโs) as follows:
โThe Services must be primarily used in the United States and are not intended for extended international use. Further, the Services are designed for use predominantly within our network. If your usage outside our network is excessive, abnormally high, or cause us to incur too much cost, we may, at our option and sole discretion, suspend your Project Fi account, terminate your service, or limit your use of roaming.โ
Hi everyone and nice to e-meet you!
finally, after so long I found a job that allows me to work remotely.
But now? Do you have any practical advice that I can use to approach this new world?
In particular, I have to put my tax situation in order, do you know a good tax advisor from whom I can ask for advice? (Iโm Italian but I live in FranceโฆI donโt know how long it will beโฆ) )
Beyond that, any advice is welcome.
Thank you!
Maria
Any US nomads found health insurance with global coverage? My current approach has been to have US health insurance, essentially a waste of money but if I ever got very sick I could go home and have coverage. My actual healthcare is a combination of travel insurance (havenโt really used it much though) and paying cash in cheap places like SE Asia and Latin America. The cobbled together approach is neither simple nor very cost-effective. Love to find a product with global coverage that also satisfies Obamacare requirements. Any leads?
Every accountant is going to tell you that you really should be keeping separate accounts for all your businesses and even projects that may one day become businesses. But in my experience setting up a new account associated with an actual business entity is a pretty annoying process involving an in-person visit to a bank branch, proof of residence in that branchโs region, etc. Has anybody seen a bank that letโs you easily create a simple business checking account online and more importantly that would let you add additional accounts and transfer funds between them?
Hey there, i wanna spend one month on a greek island in August. Just need a view by the sea in a small village. Anybody has advice? By the way, i am a translator, so i need Internetโฆ
I recently started running a software consultancy in the UK that specialises in MVP development and onboarding/marketing strategies. I found it relatively easy to get leads by attending networking events (quite a lot here in Edinburgh).
I plan to start travelling soon, though. Has anybody tried to travel while running a software consultancy? Iโm really curious to find out how you handled finding new clients while doing that. Letโs say that if I go networking somewhere in Asia I wonโt find clients willing to spend much on a project (and canโt just pay my employees less because I canโt find good paying projects).
The situation is that my BF is a UK citizen and I am not. We are traveling around SEA and planning to stop in the UK for 6 months to rekindle funds. Granted, the UK is not the cheapest place to rekindle funds, however, he can work and get a good job there.
I have already done my working visa in the UK so I canโt legally work there again. Iโm a graphic designer and web designer and have decided that I will try and get freelance work to support myself whilst Iโm over there.
My question is more related to tax and visas. I am an Australia citizen so I can get a 3 month tourist visa. Iโm just a little worried about how strict they are over there on visas and questioning finance etc
Going on 3-6 month #vanlife trip throughout the USA and Canada, and setting up my data connectivity to be able to work on the road. Without going into depth (unless you ask), Iโm trying to figure out options for cell service as a US citizen in Canada, and looking for everyoneโs input:
(1) Project Fi: any experience or feedback on how Fi works in Canada? Iโll be almost exclusively in British Columbia.
(2) US Carriers: any feedback on AT&T or Verizon?
Thanks, all!
Greetings!
Me & my gf holding not very strong passports, so have to apply for a visas quite often.
Soon need to make a visa applications from the countries we have no ties with.
The problem is that by the moment of making an applications, a bank statements will be outdated and the banks we currently use donโt send the paper statements internationally. That cause quite a lot of problems with visa applications. (the way i see it now is to open new account in each country, transfer funds to it and wait for 3 months)
Any suggestion on probably some fin tech banking startup where one can both open the account remotely (with using a local mailbox service i suppose) and get a paper statement delivered internationally?
Hope there is a solution to it
Hi all,
For those of you who work remotely, I think the community would love to hear about your problems โฆ I know I would.

I am contemplating to spend some digital nomad time on Cabo Verde. But as it is not yet on the Nomad List I was wondering if anyone has been there and what it is like re: Internet speed and accommodation?
I was thinking of living in Quito for a few months. Anybody have any experience there?
Has anybody ever encountered a travel gear manufacturer that makes gear that is solid and durable, but that is intentionally designed to look old and crappy? For international travel, I want good, durable gear, but Iโm uncomfortable walking around with slick, brand-new-looking, expensive-looking gear (especially with my family in tow). Iโm happy to snatch up any good used gear (reduce, reuse, recycle) that weโre lucky enough to encounter, but selection is limited, and durability is often compromised. Seems like thereโd be a decent market for some durable but ragged-looking travel gear. What i have in mind is luggage, backpacks, laptop cases, smartphone cases, camera bags, infant/toddler carriers, etc. Iโm sensitive to the preppy fad of clueless, well-off westerners dressing up like the poor in naive but trendy mockery, but thatโs not what Iโm after, here. I just want good gear that doesnโt put a target on my back as we traipse around various parts of the world. Anybody have any thoughts on thisโฆ?
Not a digital nomad (yet), but getting ready. Iโm a data scientist and programmer. I have only worked full time jobs so far, so I am not sure how to earn a living outside of it. Anyone here running SaaS business? what other ways do you make a living and how do you find work?
Hi All
Soโฆ a few months ago when I was in Asia, for some reason I decided that it was gonna be too hot over the summer months and I wanted to mix it up with a few months touring Europe. So I had the idea to buy and RV and drive round for a few months.
Meet Teagan
Itโs taken a few months going through the process of getting my license to drive the RV, because itโs so large it wasnโt covered on my standard driving license. Add to that, I had some solar panels fitted for unlimited power, and a massive satellite dish for internet wherever I go.
Iโve now got my ferry booked out of the UK for September 11th and at the moment have no plans past the first few weeks.
Has anyone on here done anything similar before? Any places recommended, or anyone around Europe over the next few months?
Iโm doing about 3 months worth before heading to Vegas for NYE and around the states for a few months after that before back to Asia for a bit.
Iโve just hit the 18-month mark of business in Hong Kong ready to submit by first Profit Tax Return. I also have the option of filing an Offshore Profits claim.
The Offshore Profits claim itself seems to be a convoluted, long drawn-out process with significant costs to bare in working with a certified CPA to answer Inland Revenue Department questioning.
Iโd love it if somebody who has been through this already were able to answer the following questions:
Any insights are much appreciated!
Hi there,
I see that the large majority of the questions on this forum are coming from business people, and I was wondering if some of you are working on not-for-profit projects, on initiatives that aim at solving social or environmental issues?
Thanks!
Thomas
