I have been using Paypal since Iโm nomading and contracting. However now it asks to confirm my identity.
I created my account when I was in the UK, now slow traveling, my account is bound to the UK and Iโm feel like Iโm *****ed since they ask for information about my previous UK address.
They are talking about limit lifts. Anyone using paypal has a nomad with no home address?
Why use PayPal or Skrill? Simply setup a Stripe account and get a free invoicing app, this will allow your customer to pay directly using their credit card. You wonโt have to deal with anything, the money hits your bank account within a week.
I am starting freelancing so new clients, they prefer to use Upwork with the time logging.
When you have a relationship, direct payment are indeed better.
Thinking about switching to Skrill, will see if they are less annoying although those annoyance might be legit (drug money laundering, โฆ)
For what itโs worth, Iโve heard the same thing happening to somebody else when they moved to Colombia & tried accessing their UK Paypal while over there. The account was frozen and it took several months for them to unlock - if I remember correctly they actually had to fly back to the UK at one point to meet with their bank in person to get sufficient ID documentation.
That said, the incident Iโm thinking of happened a decade ago, so hopefully Paypal have improved their processes since then! I try to keep my online business earnings paying directly into my bank account now though, just in case.
I have had paypal for 8 years, never had a problem. My employer sends me payments through it without any limits to withdraw. Just dont say you are moving around the globe for christ sake!!
Iโve used PayPal for years and itโs best to just let them โthinkโ you still live in your original location. Otherwise, Skrillโs been pretty good and I hear a lot of freelancers are getting paid via Skrill now. That said, they will still eventually need some sort of identity check as well. Most, if not all, will need something showing who you really are b/c they need to feel like theyโre not aiding a terrorist or other illegal entity move money around.
Thatโs what I just did in fact, I sent a request via there website, then thought that I could give it a shot and added my old address and it was lifted without even requiring documents.
So now I just hope that they will do some good job and lose my request.
I had the same problem as you and I also work through Upwork so not using PayPal is not an option. I had to contact support and explain my unusual situation a few times before they agreed to work with me. They made me send in a bunch of other documents that confirmed my identity such as a birth certificate (the Swedish version) and a signed document from both my parents (?). It was a pain in the ass and I had my account frozen during the time, but everything has worked fine after that.

It can be problematic and there are more and more questions arising currently but the key it a maildrop in the country where the account is and have something like a bank statement etc go there just in case they ask for proof of address plus its ideal to link a debit card (prepaid should work) and a bank account plus you need a local number too either voicemail or live (better if they call) in the UK this costs under ยฃ400 a year the pair and much the same in the US and many other locations. We arrange it all the time for people working in IT, contracting etc.

I use the same address from when I started my account six years ago. Iโve lived in several places since then - as far as Paypal and the connected bank account are concerned, I still live there.
paypal is a nightmare unless youโre staying in one spot. most people i know avoid it as much as possible
Typically how do you get paid on Upwork, if not with paypal?

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. I'm an experienced Digital Nomad and after being in Lockdown in Bangkok and Germany for one year I would like to team up with someone to visit a new place. Or just doing some exchange about what destinations would be interesting currently.
I take the virus seriously and still I think we can still be able to take our life in our own hands. So I'm aiming for cities/countries which are not in full lockdown, are not too complicated about immigration (I'm looking at you Thailand, your state quarantine costs like 1k USD and is basically a prison) and is also rather safe regarding the virus. I tend to stick for rather big cities and like culture. I'm not a beach or nature person. I'm pretty flexible about the money topic.

I have two passports from different countries and am trying to understand where can I travel now. Is there a publicly available map of countries open for visitors by passport country that I can use to see what are my options? I was pretty sure such a thing should exist, but cannot easily find any.
Maybe at least there're maps for specific passports? Mine are Russian and American.
