How do you get feedback on your work and life?

by @andrew_f_shaker 10yr  | 5 comments

Hello all!

Iโ€™ve been a nomad for a good 18 months, making mobile apps as I travel around. As Iโ€™ve read in this forum, being a Nomad is already something outside the norms of society and its structure. And that in itself is freeing!

But one thing when breaking away from society is the lack of feedback from others. I feel that feedback is an important part for all humans. The lack of feedback makes me wonder:

  1. It my project non-sense?

  2. When people frown my lifestyle, is that feedback - or jealousy?
2a) Is it wrong to have the feeling that others may be jealous (am I pompous)?

  3. Because I receive no feedback, my standards might be too high. Have I achieved enough?

These thoughts sometimes are weighing on my mind. But I would never trade the lifestyle or experiences Iโ€™ve had for simply, feedback.

Iโ€™d love to hear how others feel about this kind of stuff.

Getting (good) feedback is difficult, not only as a nomad.

I have been attending a few of the http://www.ceo-cf.com/ events where CEOs can openly share business challenges with peers and get very open feedback and suggestions.

I โ€œstoleโ€ this concept for coworking camp where we had peer group seesions for startup founders, digital nomads and freelancers to share business challenges and then get feedback from the whole group. This was really powerful, especially since there was no conflict of interest and the challenge was done in a confidential environment. This gives you new insights from a variety of different perspectives, regardless if you present a challenge or provide feedback to somebody else.

So I would advise to find a similiar environment of like minded people.

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for being honest about your road bumps along the journey. Ultimately, as annoying as this may sound, youโ€™re the only one with the answers to your questions. I think asking yourself why youโ€™re asking yourself these questions, and why you care is a good place to start.

Do you feel a certain pressure to achieve?

Most importantly, what are you motivated by?

I asked myself that last question a month ago when I started getting worried about my performance and what I was doing and how it would seem if I went back home and had a gigantic break down when I finally allowed myself to listen to my answer. I quit my job 4 months ago to travel the world and watch sunrises to help inspire people to live inspired lives and I realized that I was partly motivated by my innermost belief that I had to be different. So essentially, I was fueled by ego. Which is shit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ultimately, this is a perfect place to be in! Continue asking those questions

I donโ€™t have an answer, just commiseration.
I hate working in a void. I would love it if there were someone that would say โ€œThatโ€™s a really stupid idea.โ€ or "I think this part could be done this other way."
Iโ€™m not alone out here in my little nomadic life, but apparently Iโ€™m seen as the intellectual authority, which is equally frustrating. I donโ€™t want to lecture. I want to learn.

Yes I hear you on that. You want to bounce feedback off someone and theyโ€™ll already overwhelmed with that youโ€™re asking them

Exactly.
The feedback I ask for doesnโ€™t seem that immense from where I stand, but I guess itโ€™s all about perspective.

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 4yr 4 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 4yr 4 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 4yr 4 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 4yr 4 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 4yr 4 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Is anyone travelling right now?

by @viktor 4yr 4 years ago  | 3 comments

Winter is coming and Iโ€™m feeling the ache of travelling after being stuck in the same place since the Pandemic started. Wondering if anyone is travelling right now? If so, where are you currently located and how is the situation where you are?

Feedback on UK mail handling services

by @sarab 8yr 8 years ago  | 5 comments

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™m thinking of changing my current setup for mail/post receiving and scanning (at the moment I have some friends doing it for me), and I was wondering if anyone has any specific feedback/advice regarding UK companies. Iโ€™m currently looking at UKPostBox.

Any personal insight would be greatly appreciated!

Sara

How useful is a credit card concierge for your business, travel, and life?

by @ride 9yr 9 years ago  | 5 comments

The deal is, with a virtual assistant, you get what you pay for. On the other hand, you can be a power user of the card concierge service, and only pay an aggregated fee, including for those folks with the same card, but hardly use the service at all.

What can a credit card concierge do for you? I donโ€™t want to quote Tim Ferriss (a controversial figure); here are some other, good uses.

EUR/USD100 concierge credit cards exist out there; the concierge option is not exclusive to cards in the 500 range. Iโ€™m not a bank, I donโ€™t offer this service; I genuinely asking your opinions.

Is it possible to have children, while living a nomadic life?

by @manu 9yr 9 years ago  | 27 comments

Anyone here has an opinion on having children, while living a nomadic life?

Me and my GF have been living on the road for 2 years now. Our businesses are mostly established and we are considering having kids within the next 2 years. The questions that come to my mind:

  • Can you optimize raising children like a web startup (picking a good location, school, doing a bit of home schooling, choosing languages, etc)
  • Is anyone doing this right now? What are your experiences?
  • Where are good places to live with children? I guess we would rent a house with garden and hire a local nanny/household helper.
  • Do you think itโ€™s an advantage for kids to grow up internationally with both parents being around more than usually?

Let me know what you think. I know Graham Brown is doing it with his Japanese wife. Sadly he doesnโ€™t write too much about family matters. Then there is also a family blog, I only recently discovered, but didnโ€™t get a chance to read yet.

I'm launching Nomad List 2.0 soon, can you give me your feedback?

by @levelsio 10yr 10 years ago  | 41 comments

Hi guys/girls,

Itโ€™s time for my regular request for feedback on Nomad List and all the related sites (including this forum, #nomads, Nomad Jobs etc.).

Hereโ€™s a little update on Nomad List itself: Iโ€™ve rewrote the entire site this month and will launch it soon as Nomad List 2.0, you can check it out at http://2.nomadlist.com.

Biggest changes:

  • When Nomad List launched, it had data on 25 cities, with 3 data points per city (cost, internet, temperature). In the last few months, Iโ€™ve worked together with a team of editors in the last few months to add the worldโ€™s 500 biggest cities, with about 70 data points (like safety, fun to the best hospitals). This means, it now has 35,000 data points.
  • It now includes over 10,000 places to work, like coworking spaces and coffee shops, and sleep, like hotels and hostels. Iโ€™ve made an algorithm to score these places based on user reviews, WiFi speeds, proximity to each other (like itโ€™ll recommend Hubba in Bangkok, and a hotel near that so you can walk to your work).
  • Itโ€™s integrated with #nomads now, which means I can add user profiles soon for all nomads to share their trips.

Let me know your tips and what direction you think I should go
