Any Latin nomads here?

the rules are to post in english, so…

I’ve seen much information on blogs, youtube etc, from Americans or 1st world country people. But the information I’ve seen from Latin people is most than anything backpackers, and I would like to know the experience of Latin nomads, since I think there maybe some issues that are different, like racism and that earning an Developed Country equivalent income is way more challenging. And when English is not your native language, trying to understand a Chinese or Indi people speaking english, may be a nightmare.

I would like to know the experience of the Latin people on becoming a nomad and if you feel there is any difference or special barrier to overcome, and how did you faced them.

Hola @chelocoach, we started our trip 7 months ago, we did 7 months in Europe (Spain, Croatia, Serbia) and we just arrived to Thailand. We never had any discrimination issue.
Related to the income, we have the same income that we had in Argentina (100% freelance work for americans and europeans), is more than enough for the moment, I use Payoneer mainly.
Like @Voskovek said, Argentinian passport is great, we don’t need visa for a lot of countries, idk if is the same with the Chilean passport, you can check that in wikipedia and confirm with the embassies websites.
About the language we didn’t had any problem, the more problematic place was Serbia. We just arrived to Bangkok, is difficult to understand the Thai english but I think that we are going to get used to the accent (and I think that is difficult for everyone, not only latins)
There are a lot of good travel blogs and vlogs in spanish, mainly from Spanish people, but there are some latins too.

Hola, hermano Chileno!! I’m a 3D Designer from Argentina, and I travel a lot., Currently in Chiang Mai. Not sure if I was lucky, but I never found any obstacles. When it comes to traveling, for instance, being from Argentina actually gave me lots of advantages, since there are hundreds of countries that I can visit without the need of a visa (I love the fact that I can spend 90 days in Thailand, Russia and the EU without a visa!).
Regarding income, I never had any problems, I earn enough to travel comfortably without making any sacrifices, and without the need of working more than 30hs a week. I do have issues with clients that sometimes think they can negotiate the price and pay me less because I’m not from a developed country, but once again, I’m lucky enough to be able to choose who I work for.
Racism was also never an issue, note even in Russia, where police can be quite annoying with foreigners in the streets.
I’m aware there’s not a lot of information about nomading in spanish, that’s why I started a blog, but it’s mostly targeted to Argentinians who want to become freelancers (in the past few years it was very hard for us to receive payments from clients from abroad, so I write about the best ways to do that).
What was your experience? Did you have any of these issues?

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

Tax advisor for permanent nomads?

I'm in need of a tax advisor who understands "our" typical situation. I'm all good on being legal on taxes at this point, but as I'm doing more investing and there's more compliance and KYC and such, it's getting more complicated to deal with this topic. Not living in my country of citizenship, company in another country, resident in yet another country, banking in a different country ... you know how it is, a pile of red flags.

Would be great to find a good tax advisor to sort things in a way that makes my situation as "explainable" and easily dealt with as possible. Any leads?

Does international health insurance for digital nomads exist?

I’m looking for an international health insurance (no travel insurance) for my nomadic life. It should cover the basic services and at least be accepted in the EU (it’s ok if it’s not accepted in the US as I’m aware they rarely are). Nice to have: enter into a contract online. Anyone got a good experience or a recommendation?

Issues with not being a tax resident anywhere?

Anyone with knowledge regarding complications of not being a tax resident anywhere in the world? I’m aware that primary health care, bank account opening and incorperation can be problematic but are there other practical or legal factors I should be aware of?

And what about paying myself salary from a self-owned OECD company? I would like to know if I risk potentieal issues with the tax authorities in the jurisdiction of the company, especially regarding withholding tax.

How do digital nomads pay tax?

Hello everyone! I’m new here and probably this is a very newbie question, but it doesn’t leave my head.

How do you, nomads, pay your taxes? I mean, if you’re constantly traveling, how are you going to pay taxes for a certain country if you are going to stay there a short period of time?
Or do you return to your “original country” and then pay them?

Anyone know an accountant for Canadian nomads/expats?

Hey guys, this was my first year as a Canadian nomad.

As far as I know of, Canadians don’t pay taxes if they do not live in the country for 6 months.

But I’d like to talk to an accountant or someone who does Canadian taxes specifically for expats and nomads to get clear on the rules and for help on my return coming up.

Does anyone know someone who specializes in Canada who can help? I’ve seen plenty of US recommendations but none for us canucks.

Best place for Digital Nomad in Latin America?

Hi!

I am planning to move to Latin America for 3-4 months (Oct-January). I’ve narrowed down 6 different places that I want to visit before committing to settling down, but I’d love to get some community input.

Here are the cities I’m considering:

Quito, Ecuador
Cuenca, Ecuador
Medellin, Columbia
Cartagena, Columbia
Antigua, Guatemala
San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala

The most important things I’m looking for:

Fast/easily accessible internet
Easy to meet other nomads/make friends in general
Safe for women
Some sort of spiritual community (I’m also a yoga teacher)
Easily walkable city

Anyone have any experience with these places and can give some insight? I’m also completely open to other recommendations.

Where are the nomads in Mexico City?

I have been to several coworking spaces (Selina etc.) only to find A LOT of local Mexican workers and businesses. Don’t get me wrong, that is all fine, but I was hoping to meet some international nomads! Any advice?

How do we solve housing for digital nomads?

There’s been a lot of discussion on this recently.

Nomads usually stay in hostels, hotels and short-term apartments. But it’s all not very optimal.

I’ve heard people suggest getting funding and building a network of houses you can stay at for a subscription price (e.g. Bruno Haid is working on that).

I don’t want do physical stuff, so I’m thinking of building a platform around making housing better for nomads.

What are the housing problems nomads face? And how can we solve them with products/services?

App/tool/service for nomads to bring things from another country?

I vaguely remember hearing about such a service before, but I’m drawing a blank on the name. Basically I left my tablet on a connecting flight in Europe, right before my main flight to Thailand. They have my tablet and are willing to ship it out for me, but people have warned me there’s a big risk of it getting “lost in the mail” if I ship something expensive like that to Thailand.

I’m wondering if there’s a service or community, where I can find a nomad who’s in Europe/heading to Thailand soon, so I can have it shipped to them in Europe and pay them to ferry it down here for me? I met someone in Budapest a ways back who had built something for this type of use-case, but I can’t remember the name of it. Any help would be appreciated!

Are there any nomads from India?

I have seen a lot of posts from different people across the world, but not even a single post from someone in India, who has been a nomad, either living within the country or traveling to another one.

Would definitely love to hear stories from such people. We are a couple traveling as social nomads who are trying to bridge the gap between the rural and urban societies in India. We have started out very humble and do not have much resources, so looking out for help from the community.

How is Bari, Italy for digital nomads?

Greetings!
Does anyone have experience in Bari, Italy please? We are thinking of going from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari by boat in mid-March. Has anyone taken a boat across? Is it nice or can it be choppy? (We are trying to avoid planes, to reduce our carbon footprint, so adding more surface travel.) Also, any info you might be able to offer about Bari and the surrounds? Next step will likely be trains up Italy as the Spring progresses.

Best way to connect with "local" nomads using Nomadlist?

Hi, I’ve seen that Nomad List offers different options that could work for connecting with other nomads that are in the same place as me (forum, Slack, user maps, matches and maybe even more options I haven’t seen), but I’m not sure what is the best/recommended way to use all these options.

Should I use all of them? Start with a message in the forum and/or Slack?

Sending private messages to a lot of people feels a little bit “aggressive”. And matches are not based on current location if I understood it correctly.

Best American phone carrier for nomads

I’m surprised this isn’t anywhere on the forum yet. But just a pro tip for Americans about to start a nomad adventure. T-mobile offers unlimited SMS & data in 120 countries for FREE with any of their (already pretty cheap) plans. It’s ideal if you plan to be back in the US for any part of the year, but I honestly would consider it even if you’re going to be entirely out of the country.

You get bumped down to much slower 3G speeds, but it’s free and works as soon as you land. Can be super helpful before you’ve sorted yourself out with a local SIM. I usually keep my T-mobile SIM in my iPhone all the time and then buy a local SIM and drop it in my pocket wifi for both laptop and iPhone when needed. I keep my local US number and just use it (it’s like $0.05/min in most places) for important clients calls so they don’t have to bother with Skype.

I’m not affiliated at all, just a happy customer. Anybody found a better deal worth mentioning?
