What do you think of the pillotion in Medellin Colombia ? I heard it is not as bad if you live in Poblado as it is further up. Is that true?

I've heard travel to CO from USA is blocked until September. Any news on this and may this change anytime soon?
Hello everyone,
I will come to live in Colombia for one year.
What is the best solution with the Visa?
I thought to have a Visa for tourists for 3 months and renewal the visa for 6 months. Is that hard to renewal a tourist Visa in Colombia?
Thank you for your help.
Best,
Julien
HI All!
Considering Bogota for a while but recent reporting indicates quite a few robbery related deaths and the fact that US State Dept personnel and their families are not allowed to use inter- or intra-city bus transportation, with flights mandatory between Colombian cities. Anyone have any insight as to the current reality vs such reporting?
I know they often donโt match but since our nomadlist.com rates Bogota safety as โbadโ, I would greatly appreciate anyone providing a current or recent boots on the ground status report as to this effect.

Hi there,
Iโm considering a month or two in Medellin and wondered what the co-working space options are like. I want something more than a cafe, so happy to pay the going rate. I spent a couple of months at Hubud in Bali earlier this year and loved it, but realise that Iโve set the bar pretty high.
Has anyone used Epicenter? I read somewhere it is pretty busy. Any other options?
Suggestions much appreciated.
We purchased an apartment in Medellin and are looking to ship some stuff from our storage unit there. Value of the stuff varies from Vitamix to iMacsโฆ
Wondering if any of you can suggest the best shippers to work with. Weโre not in a hurry to get it but want to make sure it arrives in one piece.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently living in Medellin until February. I want to find some of people favorite spots for surfing and community. I have heard Nicaragua and Guatemala have many options.
Multiple one month or more stays in countries below the US (CA, SA, Caribbean as all?). Spanish isnโt a problem. Safety, internet, and surf are priorities. Ive heard good things about Panama and CR but they amount of gringos currently in these places is sort of a turn off (Im a gringoโฆbut that is my preference). Budget is sub $1500/month.
Thank you for the suggestions!

Hello all,
Iโm just interested on anyones experience of renting short term (1-3 months) accommodation in Medellin, Colombia.
I had a look on Airbnb of course, lots of places, on the more expensive which isnโt a huge issueโฆ Iโm just wondering if in anyones experience itโs better to take a room for a week and shop around when I get there or whether I should just book a month upfront? I recently had a bad experience with Airbnb so not dying to go down that road again just yet if Iโm honest.
Iโll be arriving in Medellin from November onwards over the Xmas period and likely through till January, maybe longer. Another friend is coming with me so we could potentially rent a 2 bed apartment, or Iโd also be happy in a studio or a private room in a decent house even. Iโm thinking El Poblano or Laureles, as we are two girls with limited Spanish.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks
Medellin, Bogota or Panama? Any recommendations on a 6 month stay with the intent of learning spanish and running an ecommerce business(good wifi)?
Where is a good place to learn Spanish? I am coming in with an intermediate level of Spanish.
Where is the internet quality good enough?
Many thanks!
Drew
Has anyone been to Antigua, Guatemala recently? It is on my list for destinations to stay for a week or so. Wanted to know if anyone has had an experience there recently or could point out a cafe or two to find a decent Wi-Fi connection.
Thanks!
Hello everyone!
Iโm currently touring South East Asia and Iโm now in Koh Lanta (Thailand). I was planning to visit Chiang Mai on friday, but Iโve read the air quality in this period is so bad due to fires that are using as a method of cultivating crops there in the north. Is it something to take in consideration or just nothing to care about?
Thanks in advance!
And by the way, if anybody is in Chiang Mai and would like to grab a coffee would also be cool!
I just arrived to Medellin and did not anticipate that no one would speak any english at all. (Iโm used to Asia where everyone knows the basics)
I need a SIM card, I found a place at the mall where they sell them, but itโs not a simple transaction and I donโt speak Spanish.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Iโm visiting Medellin this October for a month and was wondering whatโs the best way to find a place there.
Iโm looking at El Pabelado, but on Airbnb itโs all like $1500, when I know the real rent price there for a 1br should be $600.
Anyone can recommend some locals so I wonโt get scammed/overpay?
Hi all!
I am considering going for 1+ month in Amed (to get more into freediving).
I need to be able to make Skype calls & other work-related tasks. I need a speed equivalent to one allowing me to watch Youtube videos.
Ubud is way more connected in comparison, so I donโt expect anything wonderful.
Wondering if anyone has done this before & if yes: what 3G
provider they used, or what cafe/restaurant/hotel had a good/reliable
enough wifi connection.
Note that I went to Amed last year & the 3G connection on the 2 providers I used at the time was terrible. Thatโs why Iโm asking for help.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. I also posted this question on travel.stackexchange.com/questions/82403/quality-of-wifis-3g-reception-in-amed-bali
Hi - Iโm looking for a good place to stay for a few weeks, work, have a beach, a bit to seeโฆ has anybody been to Cartagena and can say something about cost of living, scene, beach, Wifi (reliable??), safety. Or is somebody there right now? I plan to go in about 4 weeks! Thanks!
Hola!
My girlfriend and I are working and slow travelling through Central and South America. We usually live in each location for around three to six months. For instance, weโve been living on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala for nearly six months now.
Weโre planning our next location in Central and South America to rent for six months and weโre hearing great things about Colombia.
Weโd like to live in a safe and quiet natural location with friendly locals, a comfortable climate and have access to quality produce (food).
Can anyone recommend where we can live? Any tips on rentals would also be appreciated.
Thanks!
Iโll be in Medellin next week and would like to get a dental check up and maybe some work done before cycling into the mountains to the south. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent and cheap dentist? English or Spanish speaking is fine.
Thanks!
I work as remote freelance developer (might become permanent) for US companies and I want to go back to Colombia. I already used my tourist visa. I have seen that itโs possible to get a TP7 for independent work but I donโt understand two points :
Hi,
This is quite a specific question but can be generic in term of method.
I need to get some time out of Bogota so I can come on the remaining days of my touristic visa in order to enrol in a cheapest university to study Spanish.
So basically going out for 2 weeks, come back, do the papers during the 3 remaining weeks.
Iโm trying to find the cheapest flight + hotel combination for this period of time using Nomadlist.
Anybody has a better method/experience?
Hi,
this is David from germany.
I am planning to stay in SE Asia in Q4 2015 while continue working. My work is location independent, but i would need to access customer sites in germany via remote connection. Has anyone done this bevor?
When i was in Thailand for holiday, voip telephony like skype, google talk etc. was working fine, but i did not test any remote access. It was a holiday.
I know that for web guys, this is not a problem, because SSH and git are not so much time critical like a โliveโ desktop session. I know that there will be more lag, as ping times Asia -> Europe will be more like 500ms rather than the < 100ms what working in close proximity to the customer.
I might start at Bangkok or Chiang Mai, so any first hand reports from there would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
David
In Colombia, I have heard people telling me that once you have a work visa you can enter and not care about what happen if you get fired.
Unlike the USA where if you lose your job, you are *****ed.
Is it a possibility to get a job, get in, open a bank account(not sure if thatโs a good idea since itโs not going to receive a consistent flow of cash from a Colombian company), then quit and work as a freelance remote.
