Is November a good time to visit Greece?

in Greece by @jammingsloth 8yr  | 7 comments

Any recommendations on cities/islands in Greece for the month of November? Looking for a place that is not cold, with good food, good internet, nice outdoors, and not in complete isolation.

Iโ€™ve been here just over a month and have only had to slip a cardie on my arms a couple of times. Itโ€™s definitely getting a little cooler at night, but I lot of people I know on the islands say they actually prefer November - itโ€™s still warm and sunny most days, but the majority of tourists have left so they can enjoy the islands without the crowds (I avoided going into Rhodes Old Town during the busy days when cruise ships come in - itโ€™s hell!).

Iโ€™ve been chatting to taverna owners to get an idea of what will be open over the winter. Some close at the end of October until April, others end of November until Feb, and some are open all year around. There are a lot of people living here and they still want to do stuff over the winter. Itโ€™s wonโ€™t be as busy as now but youโ€™ll still have a choice of places to eat out and bars, etc. A lot of the tourist shops and restaurants in the Old Town will close, but the new town will be mostly open, I think.

Hey! Iโ€™m currently living in Rhodes and Iโ€™m going to be here over the winter. For me itโ€™s a good option as I used to work on a really tiny island off here and I have friends in the area, one of whom managed to secure me a newly refurbished 2-bed house with outdoor space in Rhodes Town, all bills included for โ‚ฌ380. Wifi is 6, but I have streamed TV and made video calls without any problems. Yes, itโ€™s getting cooler in the evenings, but I have heating should I need it. But there are still really sunny days - Rhodes famously boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year. And while a lot of the tourist stuff closes down, people still live here and a lot of people from the smaller islands move back here over the winter, so thereโ€™s plenty going on - you just need to look a little harder. Having said that, Iโ€™m not a party person, so not everybody might agree

300 days of sunshine sounds prettttty nice! And wow, that sounds like a great housing deal. Do you feel as though business and restaurants will close down soon? Or is there a pretty big local presence

Greece will be cold in November (yes, even in the islands). Most islands will be dead and many shops, restaurants, etc will be closed for the winter season. Itโ€™s already getting quite chilly here at night in Athens at the moment. I canโ€™t imagine being here in November.

Nahh, everything was definitely open. Itโ€™s still a fun time. Just not the party island that itโ€™s known to be. I stayed in Ornos, which was really quiet but also super close to the main jaunt. I loved it. I also really liked Elia beach. Sadly I didnโ€™t get to do to much exploring as I was working at the time, but still, the island itself is beautiful.

I was just in Mykonos this past week. Itโ€™s offseason, but itโ€™ll have decent to great weather, great seafood, and amazing views. Iโ€™d recommend renting an ATV for getting around if you go! I got mine for $20/day.

My airbnb and every coffee shop around me had trash internet. The Shisha Bar and attached restaurant had incredible internet thoughโ€ฆ I ended up doing a bunch of file transfers and video calls there.

Awesome, thanks for the response? Did you get the feeling that restaurants and businesses shut down as the off season progresses? ATV sounds like a sweet mode of transportation! Any part of the island youโ€™d recommend?

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 4yr 4 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 4yr 4 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 4yr 4 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 4yr 4 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 4yr 4 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

UK Expats travelling to Greece?

in Bulgaria by @davda1546 4yr 4 years ago  | 2 comments

Hi all, my husband and I have been living in Bulgaria for the past month and were hoping to travel to Greece next. Have any UK nationals entered Greece lately? I believe that anyone entering Greece requires a negative COVID test 72 hours before travel - is this what they are requiring at the borders please? (Reason we ask is for Bulgaria we filled out forms but weren't asked for them) Thanks.

Greece- WIFI- how is it really?

in Greece by @amandamay 6yr 6 years ago  | 0 comments

We are leaving for Greece in 60 days and need good wifi for the 3 months we plan on staying there, this is a must! Iโ€™ve heard mixed reviews and the 8-10 ranking on nomadlist are not super encouraging. Has anyone recently worked from there? What should we expect? We plan on renting an apartment after staying in airbnb and would like to work from the place we are staying in. Thanks so much for helping me decide if we can continue on or change plans.

Would you like to help revitalize a village in Greece?

in Greece by @lightmotif 9yr 9 years ago  | 48 comments

Hi all -

Iโ€™ve recently connected with an interesting community group called the Meraki people, based in a village in the Peloponnese of Greece, only 2 hours from Athens and its airport, and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Kalamata and its airportโ€ฆfull of cultural gems, great beaches and wild mountainous landscapes. They are trying to bring new life and economy to their villages, in a self-sustaining, technologically-innovative, and environmentally-positive way. And theyโ€™re interested in hosting digital nomads in a community experience where you could work on your own projects and/or volunteer to help the local communities, depending on your interests and availability. They have received some significant international recognition already.

Iโ€™m trying to work out details around a potential gathering approx mid-Nov to mid-Dec. but also want to gauge interest before getting too far. Cost of lodging should be reasonable/ off-season โ€“ apts or private rooms with heat and hot water, and there would be a co-working space + potential community kitchen. @alldreamedup and @munly_leong expressed interested in Greece this fall - have either of you made plans? Also, @srajan821 and @bradonomics - the Meraki people are trying to do something similar to an eco-village, so wanted to give you a shout too.

Hope to hear from some nomads interested this fall (or in the future). Thanks!

Susan

Formentera, Spain vs. Santorini, Greece?

in Santorini , Greece by @que 9yr 9 years ago  | 5 comments

Hi,
Iโ€™m ready to start traveling again (looking at May through August, about). I have a little more money to spend and would like an island experience in Southern Europe. Iโ€™m a little older and looking for a little more comfort these days. I would plan to rent a 1 bedroom apartment if possible. Places that come to mind are Formentera or Santorini. Iโ€™d like to stay for 2 or 3 months. Does anyone have any experiences to share with these two locales. One concern I have about Greece is safety given the economic crisis. Any insight into there would be appreciated.

Thanks

From "selfish nomadism" to "supportive nomadism" โ€” Greece, anyone?

in Greece by @alldreamedup 9yr 9 years ago  | 12 comments

Iโ€™m still trying to decide where to go between October and Christmas this year. Too many criteria to handle and at this point no absolute priority is emergingโ€ฆ first world problems. So I turned the โ€œproblemโ€ around, instead of thinking selfishly โ€œwhat can this or that place do for me?โ€ I am now thinking โ€œwhat can I do for this or that placeโ€? And soโ€ฆ Greece. I visited Athens & the Peloponnese on holidays last year and found some beautiful spots where I could definitely spend a couple of months, and am now thinking: what if thereโ€™s a few of us who rent a big house with Internet (preferably by the sea, that priority is pretty much always top of the list for me though Iโ€™m flexible) and turn โ€œselfish nomadismโ€ into โ€œsupportive nomadismโ€? I only have a contact in Nafplio for housing, so if you are interested in helping create this and have ideas/suggestions/contacts let me know in a comment! There may be a few practical difficulties, with the current cash shortageโ€ฆ I havenโ€™t studied this in details but hereโ€™s a thought, anyway!

What's the best place to be in November/December?

by @wanderingjoanne 9yr 9 years ago  | 18 comments

Hello!

Iโ€™m after advice on a good (read: warm) nomad base for November & December. I wanted to head to the Canaries, but I think Iโ€™ve left it late to look because there isnโ€™t much left in the way of accommodation in my price range on Airbnb. I know there are a lot of nomads around there, especially Tenerife & Gran Canaria, and wondered whether anybody could suggest other accommodation options/websites to look at?

Failing that, whatโ€™s another good nomad spot in Europe for this time of year? Iโ€™m chasing the sunshineโ€ฆ

Thanks all

Coworking Camp is coming to Tunisia in November. Are you?

in Tunis , Tunisia by @matthiasezeitler 10yr 10 years ago  | 3 comments

Quite happy to announce that the next Coworking Camp will be in Tunisia from November 2nd till December 13th.

If you havenโ€™t heard or read about Coworking Camp before, itโ€™s a temporary coworking space in a beach resort to escape the European winter. Lotโ€™s of information including some videos from last year and links to various newspaper and blog articles is on our homepage at http://coworking.camp

The final hotel has not been decided yet, but I wanted to make sure everyone is aware early enough (as last year a lot of people told me they learned about it too late to join), plus we have a 35% super early bird discount on the tickets for the next few weeks. (code โ€œiaminโ€). There are also some volunteer spots left for free tickets in case you want to help organizing the event.

The general idea is to bring a group of about 60 like minded startup founders, digital nomads and freelancers together in a productive environment to make new connections, share experiences and have fun in the winter sun.

I am currently in Tunisia (only for a few more days), but will be in Chiang Mai soon, so please message me if you want to meet in person to learn more about Coworking Camp. Or just have a coffee.
