Pipa is a small surf-focused town about an hour south of Natal, known for its decent infrastructure for remote work and a growing digital nomad community. There’s one coworking space and several laptop-friendly cafes, which seem to support a small but budding nomad presence. The internet is reliable, which is a plus for remote workers. Restaurant options are diverse and largely praised. Safety is better than in larger Brazilian cities, and it's relatively easy to get there by public transport or ride-share from Natal.
The town offers a lot for surf and fitness enthusiasts, with plenty of sports options and beautiful beaches—though reaching some beaches can involve long stair descents. However, Pipa is not very walkable, with limited sidewalks and rough streets, making getting around on foot difficult. The nightlife is very active, which some find fun but others consider too loud and busy. The social scene has a distinct party and influencer vibe that doesn’t appeal to everyone, especially those seeking low-key or genuine community interactions.
Overall, Pipa is a lively and picturesque destination best suited for short stays or for those who enjoy surfing and nightlife. Long-term appeal may be limited depending on personal preferences.

I returned here for a month to spend time with a friend who was working here. I will definitely say that there are some very nice beaches for surfing, although it takes 100 or so steps to reach them. I enjoyed playa amor the most and spent a lot of time there.
With that being said, someone else described Pipa as the Canggu of Brazil, which I thought was spot on. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I found most the people there pretty obnoxious. I did meet some nice low key people but most struck me as very trendy types wanting to be seen. I did not find it to be a laid back place, the town is extremely loud, real frat house vibe at a lot of the parties, and just an abrasive feel in my opinion. Lot of influencer types and showmads.
I enjoyed surfing there but never clicked with the social atmosphere. In fact, it made me rethink the whole concept of looking for places that have a “vibrant digital nomad community.”
In my opinion it’s best to visit for a weekend to say you saw the beaches, not as somewhere to make lasting connections.

Pipa is a destination worth considering when you're in Brazil. If you're laid back, this is a place for you. Yes, if you stay in the center of Pipa it's going to be crowded and loud but if you choose an accommodation a bit further away you can enjoy the peace and be surrounded by nature while still being 10 minutes away from the beach.
There's one coworking space and a few cafes that are laptop friendly (Moka Cafe, Aloha Pipa, Caju - in my preferred order). I've only run into a few digital nomads while there, but I think there's potential for growth. There are plenty of good restaurants to try, including a wide range of international cuisines.
Pipa often gave me Bali vibes - similar environment, a lot of surfers, relaxed vibe. However, not yet overrun by western tourists. Also, like someone else mentioned - not very walkable ;)
In major Brazilian cities you always have to stay alert, but Pipa feels pretty safe. Walking at night feels safe and you don't have the constant risk of someone snatching your phone.
Pipa is quite easy to reach from Natal. There are buses running every 1-2 hours from Natal's main station (look for Riograndense company) and many BlaBlaCar offerings. If you're not on budget you can grab an Uber for ~$35.

I wanted to comment on this place after being there recently. If you are just looking for a surf and party town, I can see how it would be appealing. However, some things stood out to me that made me decide to move on. First of all, it is not very walkable at all, with hardly any sidewalks and rough cobblestone streets or dirt where you are constantly dodging cars. In the daytime, I suppose you can surf and that’s about it. Most the action takes place at night. It is also very touristy. Personally, I preferred nearby Joao Passoa, and intend to check out Fortaleza as well. I also heard Itacare is a better option for those seeking a more chill and relaxed beach town.

Pipa is the best kept secret of Brazil, a small surf town with a thriving community of interesting people. Right now there are weekly popup coworking days, weekly meetups and weekend trips with other nomads.
If you like sports this is heaven: Surf, beach tennis, padel, Crossfit... Brazil is a very sport focused country and that shows every day on the lifestyle here.

Pipa is a small surf village just 1h south of Natal and the first nomad village in Brazil.
There's a small coworking space, accommodation is widely available for monthly deals except in January and February (high season). There are a lot of good restaurants, internet is good and the nightlife very busy.
Pipa is definitely an upcoming destination in Brazil.
