I was not joking about football and music, most Brazilians have a limited repertoire, are media brainwashed and at least for me hard to have decent connection
riccardog 16d
Yeah, I said, they are your friends or love partners only if they can obtain something, they donโ€™t do nothing for the sake of love lol
maristia 16d
Arrived to Salvador yesterday with my girlfriend. Great place, can recommend. Staying in Graรงa, very safe neighborhood. Can recommend! If any nomads around, let me know
nthnjns 16d
I'll be there in a few weeks. Is Graca the neighborhood in the south of the city where all the Airbnbs are?
maristia 16d
Yeah, that's Graรงa. Great area.
nthnjns 16d
Cool that's where I booked. Thanks for the info.
Coming in a week!
rcsligar 15d
Iโ€™ve been in Jericoacoara for two months, have not really connected with the locals at all, only people who talk to me are those trying to sell things. Maybe if I was fluent in language, and spent more time
in a city things would be different, but at the moment Iโ€™m very isolated. I donโ€™t party too much anymore so it seems hard to find things to do sometimes
I'll be out of here in a week
I gonna leave here on Thursday
But my recommendation for all nomads is to stay in Lago Sul, it's the best neighborhood.
jcoutz 15d
Go to a bar tonight to watch the football match, at least will learn a lot of new cursing words
rcsligar 15d
Anyone been to Sรฃo Luis? Going there next
Bro. I'm sure Jericoacoara is beautiful but two months? ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
ah dang. I already booked my accomodation but if I extend, I will keep that in mind. Thanks!
rcsligar 15d
Iโ€™m not sure why I stayed that long, leaving on Sunday
rcsligar 15d
I was originally intending to stay in Pipa for a while, but it was too much for me in January, so I came to Jeri instead
rcsligar 14d
Is buzios expensive?
rm 14d
When I was there it was OK, but that was a few years ago. Should be fine low season
lsousa 14d
compared to the rest of the state, yes. but if you are OK with the Leblon/ Ipanema price shouldn't be a problem. I guess Leblon can be more expensive than Buzios I think
lsousa 14d
a menu from one of the best coffee to work from: https://www.mariamariacafe.com/Maria-Maria-Cafe-menu-2025-EN.pdf
lsousa 14d
you can have an idea about the price there based on it
lsousa 14d
https://maps.app.goo.gl/8MnwXgABYexNvQzH9
lsousa 14d
FYI: double espresso is costing R$ 16 (2.79 USD). I don't think I paid more than R$ 12 in Copacabana last month
But again, that may be Leblon price ๐Ÿคท
jcoutz 14d
More in high season, probably ok prices now.. great place, I recommend
jcoutz 14d
With a bit o luck can find a cheaper accomodation
rcsligar 14d
How about average meal cost?
rm 14d
It's a very touristy place but it does have people who live there year long. So you'll find a local economy outside the tourist hotspots and in the low season, with more affordable prices
rm 14d
Having a car there helps a lot (as with other similar cities) although I was able to get by just fine without one
rm 14d
That said it's still a small city. Don't expect it to be lively this time of the year
ninamambo 14d
Hi all! I'm about to start my 6 months travel through Brazil and will start in Florianapolis. Looking for small town vibes with a community.. where would you recommend me to stay in Florianapolis for this? ๐Ÿ™Œ thanks so much, any help or advice is so appreciated ๐Ÿ™
rcsligar 14d
I liked Floripa surf hostel, area is a bit quiet but nice beach and very nice owner. Met other remote workers staying there in private rooms. Itโ€™s not a crazy party hostel with poor amenities
jcoutz 14d
If you stay in the touristy zone like near rua das pedras it'll be more expensive, but you can find local and cheaper options. There's a lot restaurants there
lsousa 13d
facts!
Whos in Rio?
Organising a small founders breakfast tomorrow if anyone wants to join. Then probably working from Fairmont.
I am
Great, Lago Sul it's the best
haha this is so weird im sat in this cafe right now...
im here rn! i'd say its pretty average prices, in the main areas its more expensive. i'll be here until april 18 so if you come down, let me know! it's super beautiful and the beaches are gorgeous
rcsligar 12d
Iโ€™m now in Jericoacoara, two months was a bit too much here and next Iโ€™m going to Sรฃo Luis, after that not sure, maybe will check it out. Sounds like you like it pretty well. Only other place Iโ€™ve seen so far Iโ€™d maybe consider staying in a while is Joao Pessoa
lsousa 12d
Itโ€™s my favorite coffee there! Have fun haha
shoot me a dm!
same I've been three days in a row ๐Ÿ˜‚
ninamambo 11d
Anybody in Florianopolis right now?

Arriving next weekend!

Whops just seen this. Ping me pls if it happens again.
Hi folks! does anyone know of a coworking space in Foz do Iguaรงu?
on my way now!
Iโ€™m heading to Jurere in Florianopolis in 2 weeks. Iโ€™ve seen there are no coworking spaces in the area, so what are you guys favourite spots to sit and work there?
ognjen 8d
how's the weather in Pipa in June/July? I'm looking for a safe, cheap beach town to spend a few months with my gf, and this came up as #1 option on Nomad List
ognjen 8d
The weather app says it's the rainy season, but does it mean it rains all the time or just for a few hours?
Rainy season means it rains usually for 1 hour a day. Its a grat time to be in Pipa, less tourists, super cheap accommodation and 100% safe.
We may do it next week, Maybe I create an event here as well
Hmmmmm I have to disagree with this. Spent 8 months on Pipa last year including the whole rainy season from begining to end, and the rain is real. It rained almost non stop for 2 days one time, and the whole day a couple of times also.
Some nomads had trouble with mold in the clothes and computer. MacBooks don't like Pipa's rainy season apparently
See above.
ognjen 7d
Well that sucks
ognjen 7d
Thanks for letting me know though
ognjen 7d
Guess I need to find another place for June/July
I was just in Jericoacoara and most the time when it rained it would just be for an hour or two a day, only one week was bad with constant rain. I wasnโ€™t bothered by it most the time
ognjen 7d
thanks for that, I'm really trying to figure out how's the weather during the rainy season, keep getting conflicting data
jcoutz 7d
Surprise, it's unstable and unpredictable
ognjen 7d
who would have guessed it?
That doesn't mean I didn't have a good time though. And I wouldn't mind going there again at that time of year. But just know it might rain well more than an hour a day
ognjen 7d
How many days would you say were miserable in June/July? Raining all the time, couldnโ€™t do anything, etc
4gnlex 6d
Hey I was thinking of going to Rio and surroundings soon, but coincidence was reading the conversation here and I was thinking the same: is it a good idea to go to eastern part of Brazil between April-August? Last time I went in May and it rained probably 3 days a week, does it get better after?
I am hosting coworking day on Thursday in a beatiful green coworking

you are welcome!

There's a good chance that in May, I'll be crossing into Brazil from Paraguay, spending a few days in Foz, and then hopping around to different cities in Brazil for a few months.

I'm trying to decide whether travel within Brazil would be better for me via airplane or via bus. For instance, going from Foz to Florianopolis.

I don't mind bus rides, but:

(1) I'm a bit concerned about safety during a long, particularly overnight, bus ride. I travel with some rather valuable stuff. Is this a legitimate concern? And anyone know of a bus company or a way I could travel by bus without much risk?

(2) Flights within Brazil seem rather cheap. So the way I see it is... even if I don't save too much time by flying, if it's safer it might be worth it.
Anyone leaving and re-entering Brazil around this time: remember that they are introducing new visa requirements in 4 days from now
Iโ€™m leaving for Paraguay too and now have to pay $80 USD to re-enter ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Usa, Canada, and Australia only
rm 4d
I've never had issues with buses in Brazil, but I've met a handful people who had their luggage stolen. I'd certainly be somewhat nervous if I was carrying a lot of valuable stuff. I do take long bus trips with my laptop occasionally, and I keep it in a backpack next to me. But to be clear there isn't "risk" in a personal safety sense; the risk is someone stealing your backpack or luggage during a bus stop, either by sneaking into the bus and taking it while you're sleeping or by pretending to be the owner when people get off and take their luggage from the luggage compartment. The drivers are supposed to check the luggage tickets but it's not a flawless system.

That said, flights are much more comfortable. Personally I hate long bus trips. Avoid them if you can.
Yeah safety was a bit of a misnomer. I mean the biggest thing I would like to avoid would be for me or my girlfriend to be physically harmed. But yeah I'm sure much more common would be property theft, in which case, we'll be traveling with 3 laptops and 5 phones. Electronics bag would probably be on the ground in front of my seat if we're sleeping in an overnight flight. I've taken overnight buses in, for instance, Paraguay, where there are people coming in and out all night, and I consider it a miracle nothing happened.

Flying might be the way to go. Thing is, I really don't like flying, and cost aside, I would rather go to sleep and then wake up at my destination than have to deal with arriving at the airport hours early, airport security, etc. But this exact issue might convince me flying is the way to go.
rm 4d
Zero worries regarding physical safety, especially in that region in Brazil.
Sucks. What did Australia do to Brazil to deserve this? ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Exactly the same actually ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Hey guys, not sure who this might be relevant to but I would advise not to visit alter do chao in April, as the beaches are completely flooded. Town is very dead as well. I was told this before but still came, was definitely not worth the long bus ride ๐Ÿ˜…
Follow up regarding my planned Brazil trip: Got my visa, plan is to visit all of May and June. So far I've spent a few hours in Foz last year, and that's all I know of Brazil.

There are several cities I absolutely want to see, but my visits there may be very brief.

My question is this: What would be the best city in Brazil to spend the vast majority of my time in for May/June? Given the weather and anything else that might be going on those months.
jcoutz 1d
Depends on what you like and risk tolerance ๐Ÿ˜†
I like big cities. In terms of risk tolerance... well I'm looking for a place where I don't have to worry too much about crime. Somewhere near the coast would be nice, but not mandatory. In terms of weather... great weather would be a huge plus... although as long as the weather isn't terrible it could be an option if everything else is good.
Rio/San Paolo/Floripa
So for those three... weather is fine in May/June?
google/chatgpt really good at answering those questions

fine is very subjective
I heard Vitoria is up and coming
jcoutz 1d
I like vitรณria a lot. Lived there. But small and perhaps hard to get by with English only
rm 1d
A single city that hits all of those doesn't exist in Brazil.
Ahh that's a shame. I was hoping there was such a city I didn't know about north of Rio.

Personally I don't mind South American winters too much but my girlfriend does. If any of these criteria need to go away, make it the weather one.

Low-ish crime is one thing I'd rather not negotiate on. Like... from the statistics I've looked at... Rio can be a bit sketchy. I definitely am going to Rio, just might not make that my home base for months.
rm 15h
North of Rio tends to be as dangerous as Rio, with the exception of Vitรณria (looking at bigger cities that aren't too far from the coast).
Vitรณria is a mid-sized city, not too dangerous, on the coastline, and will have decent weather this time of the year. So it's a good option. It's just not international in the slightest, so don't expect anyone to know English there.
Santos is another similar, interesting option that isn't well known outside Brazil.
Florianรณpolis is also mid-sized (slightly bigger than Vitรณria), very safe, and a lot less provincial, but it will be "cold" in May-June.
rm 15h
There are good options considering smaller cities (like Bรบzios) or cities that aren't near the coast (like Belo Horizonte).
rm 15h
However, most cities with a large-ish population in Brazil aren't "safe". If you're very risk averse, tbh Brazil isn't a great spot.
falconb0 15h
Regarding Vitรณria...

So re: language, I speak English and intermediate Spanish. My girlfriend speaks Spanish. Actually one of the things I like about nomading is making an attempt to learn languages. We have a few weeks to learn some basic things in Portugese.

My experience in Foz was that there was always at least one person in the room who spoke Spanish. But then again Foz is just across the border.

I think between Spanish, English, Google Translate and a willingness to learn languages, I don't think the language barrier will be a big issue.

The size of Vitรณria might be an issue for me
falconb0 15h
Regarding safety...

I mean I think a good metric would be whether a city safer than some of the cities I've lived in in the US. Statistically many cities in Brazil are similar.

But generally for a less safe place, I'd rather keep my visit on the shorter side, and spend the vast majority of my time in a more safe place.
rm 15h
Generally speaking, if you avoid sketchy areas and sketchy people you'll be fine in most Brazilian capitals.
rm 15h
They're harder to avoid in some cities like Rio but you can still have a great time there.
rm 15h
There's always some risk of getting mugged even in wealthier locations, but it's relatively low if you take basic precautions.
falconb0 15h
Great, appreciate the suggestions!

My girlfriend says she would prefer a place that's safer / smaller over larger / less safe. Honestly I think I'm the opposite... like if it was just me, I would love to just live in Sรฃo Paulo for many months. But still... I'd take way more risks on my own than with a girlfriend.

I think most likely the trip will consist of a brief stay in Sรฃo Paulo and Rio, and more extended time in a place like Vitรณria or Santos.
rm 15h
Yeah I get it. I'd much rather stay in a place that's bigger (and more interesting) than in a small and safe city. Smaller cities definitely tend to be more boring.
rm 14h
There's always the aspect of vibes as well. Some people just outright hate Sรฃo Paulo or Rio the moment they step in those cities.
falconb0 14h
Yup, definitely for Sรฃo Paulo and Rio I'd book no more than a week at first. And there's nothing saying we can't stay longer if we both love it and feel safe.
lisakf 10h
If you want to go more north, maybe take Salvador into consideration. I was there last July/August and it was quite nice! Safety is like others said depending on the area, but walking around along the coast and taking the bus a couple times felt ok!
And of course the weather is a little better than in the south ๐Ÿ˜
