Rome is packed with stunning historical sights, art, and good Italian food, making it a top spot to visit. People are friendly and sociable, and it's easy to hop to other parts of Italy. Wi-Fi speeds are decent, which helps if you're online sometimes.
But living or working here long-term is tough. The city feels chaotic and dirty, with overcrowded public transport and only three poorly connected metro lines. Rent is expensive for what you get, and summers are brutally hot. Nightlife sucks, coworking spaces are scarce, and startup events are rare. Making deep friends is hard—Italians stick to schoolmates and family. Tons of tourists mean everything's messy, and drivers are nuts. Food has traps, so pick spots carefully. Great for a short trip, but not for getting work done—you'll just wander around distracted.

This is a good place to visit, but not a good place to get work done. There's just so much to see, especially if it's your first time going to Rome, that you'll be too distracted to get any work done. It is also a bit expensive. The food variety here isn't great - pretty much just pasta and steak. The Wi-Fi speeds are pretty good, though. If I were to come back, I would not come back on a working basis.

A walking stereotype. Overcrowded, messy, expensive. Literally nothing works. There are more USA people than in Lisbon, which I thought was impossible. Yes, Italians are awesome and food is great.

It´s difficult to make friends here. Generally speaking, lifelong friends are made in school and then there´s family. People are very nice and sociable but forget about making friends. Lots of really bad restaurants (tourist traps) so you have to be careful where you go. I´ve lived here for two years so I have gotten to know some good places. Tons of tourists and overcroweded public transport. Yes, it´s a beautiful city but quite unlivable.

Lived in Rome for 6 months and I would not recommend it. There are few good working cafes or co-working spaces, the city is dirty, nightlife isn't great, rent is expensive for what you get, public transport is terrible and the metro is poorly connected (only 3 lines), drivers are crazy, few start-up related events, extremely hot in summer, etc.
Some of the positives include the historical sights, beautiful walking routes, you can easily visit other parts of Italy, people seem friendly enough, decent-ish expat community.

Rome is probably the most beautiful city in the world, art, history, good food. It is chaotic but people are friendly, definitely to recommend

Rome has tourist fatigue. Servers are curt and it's hard to find a decent restaurant.
