Bars and restaurants during summer nights were full, mostly with locals, nice atmosphere.

It's a small city and a great place to work and go about your day.
Not very touristy and there are much better places in Montenegro to visit as a tourist but Podgorica is great as a base to explore both the north and south of the country as it's very well connected with roads in each direction.
It's very affordable compared to the coast and there are a lot of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Google "ugliest Balkan capital city reddit" and you see what is the most popular answer. I've been to all the Balkans, and Podgorica is probably the most "meh" and uninteresting city I remember visiting. Abandoned building without windows right on the main square of the capital of the country, are you kidding me? Really boring and although there are some things to see, but overall it's extremely generic, and you'd be better off going to other cities of Montenegro instead of Podgorica. Kotor for example is much more interesting, as well as some other cities on coast, or nature on the north.
