Munich offers a high quality of life, particularly for those who value safety, cleanliness, and green spaces. The city features beautiful architecture, many outdoor leisure opportunities like the English Garden, and a wide selection of great restaurants and cafés. It’s also walkable and pleasant to explore on foot, with well-maintained public areas and a reputation for being one of the safest cities in Germany.
However, it comes with downsides that many reviewers consistently noted. Rent and general living costs are very high, and finding housing is particularly difficult unless one has local contacts. The city has a relatively conservative and older demographic, which may make it feel less vibrant for younger or more international residents. While the surrounding nature is appreciated, the city itself is often described as lacking the cultural and social buzz of Berlin or other larger European cities. English is not always well received in social settings.
Overall, Munich is a great fit for those seeking stability, safety, and an orderly environment, but may not suit people looking for a dynamic nightlife, tech/start-up scene, or a more youthful, diverse atmosphere.

We stayed in Munich for 2 weeks, and more specifically, we were in Dachau. Amazing city that is very clean, safe, and full of history. Dachau has a lot to offer as well, so I recommend staying a bit further out and take the train to the city center. The English garden is a fantastic place to surf, swim, layout, walk, bike, or have a picnic. I will definitely come back here!

I stayed for some days in Munich and I really enjoy. The city is beautiful and you can find a lot of stuff to do and a lot of great restaurants. The city is also very safe compared the other german cities.

I was in Munich for 9 months and couldn't get used to the city. It's actually a small town for old and rich people. The flair is not international, but terribly German-conservative. There is neither an interesting start-up nor a tech community. Many people are unfriendly when you speak English. The leisure activities outside Munich (nature) are nice, unfortunately there is not much going on in the city compared to London, Berlin or Barcelona. In Germany, everyone seems to want to go to Berlin, so if you don't, I recommend looking at Hamburg or Cologne - but unfortunately not Munich.

I've lived in Munich for six months during my Erasmus internship.
It is a great place to live generally, offering high quality of life, and it would hands down be the best city to live in Germany if:
-It wasn't expensive af, especially rent prices
-It wasn't almost impossible to find a place to rent (like literally the only way to find is through acquaintances)
-Bavaria was less bureaucratic and more tech-progressive
-It had more... young people; much of the youth there is because of the two of the best unis in Germany (LMU & TUM) that receive
many EU & International students, otherwise it would have been a city of old people.
Everything else is pretty much great in Munich, which is quite liberal in an otherwise conservative state.
