Curaçao is a beautiful island with great natural scenery and very clean, drinkable tap water available even in remote areas. It has modern healthcare with a new hospital, making it more convenient for longer stays or expats. However, getting around the island requires a car, as public transportation is unreliable and most locals own cars. The island is not suited for biking due to narrow roads, lack of sidewalks, and generally unsafe conditions for cyclists.
The cost of living tends to be high since nearly everything has to be imported and little to no agriculture happens locally. Stray dogs are commonly mentioned, and barking at night can be an issue. There are also concerns about the heavy Dutch influence and the disparity in opportunities between locals and expats. While snorkeling is available, the coral reefs are reportedly in decline. Solo travelers may also find it difficult to meet people outside of the prevalent Dutch social circles.
Curaçao is best suited for those who can rent a car and don't mind spending extra for imported goods. It’s a scenic island with solid infrastructure in terms of healthcare and water quality, but with notable downsides in transportation and social integration.

stayed in curarcao for 2 months as a solo traveler ; Its beautiful, okay snorkeling, Hard to meet people, you need a car 100% to get around the island. corals are dying. Strong colonial dutch presence, feels like the whole island is catered to dutch.. nightlife is predominantly dutch. it is uncomfortable to see locals oppressed and have much less opportunities.

This island is wonderful ! I was there for a month and I fell in love with Curaçao. Just to rectify : The tap water is incredibly good to drink !! Anywhere you go you can drink tap water, even once I was in Daaibooi Beach which is 30 km away from the main city and I asked the guy at the snack bar to fill my bottle and the water was as nice as downtown !! Amazing !!
If you are a bike rider (bicycle), forget it ! You will get killed, there is no shoulder, neither sidewalks. Some roads looks like Beyrouth at a certain era, but in general they are ok. Stray dogs are everywhere. Every family ther has at least 2 dogs, and at night, you sometimes feel like Kevin Costner in Dances with wolves with all the dogs barking at the moon. Nothing grows there, but cactus do!! I crashed my drone in the 'forest' and I worked very hard to bring it back ! And I agree, if you are not a freak like I am, you will need a car.

Great island. Lived there for 20 years before I start traveling around. Don't forget it's expensive. All is imported, nothing grows there. And one other thing: you need a car. Public transport is bad and all locals have cars.

Just to recommend some changes, there is a new hospital, Curacao Medical Centre ("CMC") state of the art.

Willemstad is a city in Curaçao, located on the west side of the island, overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
The historic centre of Willemstad is one of the largest UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A walk around the old city centre with its restored houses and buildings is a must. It is also a city of many cultures, which have brought their influence to the island.
There is an excellent art museum here, including works by Picasso, and the remaining buildings of the old fortress are also worth a visit.
The city was built on the sandy remains of a giant coral reef and reclaimed land, so the sand is still very visible here. Willemstad is the capital of Curaçao and is the largest city on the island. The main industries are oil refining, chemicals, and tourism.
