I work at night so I have free time during the day. Every day, I would change hotels. This lets me experience a different part of town every day. At around 1pm, I would check out, then load up the hotels.com app and find the next 3-Star hotel under $40. Then Iโd grab an Uber and make my way to the new hotel. And then repeat the next day until Iโve lived in every 3-Star hotel within my budget in the city. Does anybody else do this?
This sounds crazy : ) But dude, if it works for you, thatโs cool. I doubt anyone else does this. Get a wife and a kid and changing hotels everyday would be so less fun)))

you donโt have to keep defending your choice. you probably wonโt find many people who donโt think youโre crazy for changing daily, but it is your choice whether we agree with it or not, and thatโs fine.
Itโs not something Iโd ever do. Too much bother, but if you enjoy it then why not? Sometimes Iโll book a cheap apartment but go stay at a nice hotel for a few nights just to enjoy it.
As for cleaning, just do it yourself. How much cleaning do you need, especially if you arenโt cooking? Itโs not that difficult 
I actually hate having other people clean and only get my room serviced when absolutely necessary if Iโm staying at a hotel because I hate having someone in my space and moving my stuff.
Iโm the same. I loathe having people in my private space so I just let the cleaner in weekly to change my sheets and clean the bathroom when Iโm in a hotel.
Yep, if Iโm forking out for a hotel, Iโm usually in my room working during the day anyway and itโd be a hassle to have to leave just for cleaning. Itโs not like Iโd change my sheets more than once a week anyway 
I hate changing sheets. HATE it. Itโs a 2 person job and itโs even worse if I have to do it alone. Itโs fine to change sheets once a week to keep the stink away, but sometimes, the sheets need to be changed more often. Itโs nice to know in a hotel that you will get clean sheets the next day.
If you shower every night before bed it shouldโt stink after 1 week ^^ยฐ
Sheets should really be changed more often. If you think about it, if you sleep naked, they are like underwear. Exposed to sweat, saliva, sperm, vagina juice, and blood, they stink up pretty quick.
And donโt walk around in bare feet!
When I use to live in an apartment, I use to throw house parties and my place would get trashed and I would spend an hour or two cleaning the next day. In a hotel, itโs nice to know somebody else will take care of that the next day.
There are places you can do that and they actually clean up after you. They are called bars
Animals with cage? That is a very different way of looking at your travels. I just hire a cleaning person in most places I visit. I usually just ask the host for a cleaning person. If they do not know of one I just get one on a Craigslist or even ask a neighbor. @wanderingdev is 100% correct about knowing a place. You cannot know a city or a town in 1 day. Nothing upsets me more then when I hear someone โseenโ europe over the course of a week in a tour bus. Actually I am wrong, tourists that just snap selfies at every major monument and say they have been there. That irks me.
The task of hiring a cleaning person is time consuming, if Iโm going to have to do that anyway, I might as well stay at a place where house keeping is in house and already included.
About knowing a place, Iโm not changing cities every day. I stay in the same city for 1 - 3 months. I just simply change hotels every day, but stay in the same city. That way I get to explore more of the city and get to know the ENTIRE city more intimately. If thereโs a particular part of town that I find more interesting, I can choose to stay at that particular hotel more often.
You can just airbnb. Same thing. But each their own. I cook usually do 2+ bedrooms, have massive outdoor areas, so we are different types of travelers.
BTW, there is a lot of value in actually knowing and experiencing a place, not just seeing a bunch of stuff that I think you are missing out on. But perhaps that isnโt important to you.
I would argue that I would have experienced more of the city and know it more intimately because Iโve stayed in more places.
Youโve seen more. That doesnโt mean youโve experienced more. To experience something generally takes time - which you arenโt spending.
Hotels? Why not rent a house/apartment. Cheaper and better experience.
I choose hotels because I can leave anytime at 24 hours notice. With a house/apartment you have to sign contracts for 6 months or 1 year. At that point, you are no longer a nomad. You are an expat. Also somebody to clean after me daily is nice. We are just animals that pay for our own cages. If the cage does not get cleaned, the cage would start to smell. If Iโm going to pay for a cage anyway, I might as well pay for a cage that comes with daily cleaning.
That isnโt correct. Iโve not sigrd a 6-12 month lease in the 7 years Iโve been doing this. Some places rent by the week, many by the month.
You could spend a lot more time exploring a city without the logistics of packing and moving and checking in and out daily. You do know that you can explore areas even if you arenโt staying in them right?
And if you are only in an area for 24 hours before moving, 8 if which you are sleeping, 8 working, 1-2 eating, and 1-2 moving, you only end up with 4-5 hours to really explore, assuming no relaxation time. By doing this, youโre giving up literally 1-3 days a week of exploration time so I donโt see how that lets you see more of a place. Not to mention limiting your ability to build relationships.
More power to you, but it seems like a colossal waste of time, money, and energy to me and, judging from the responses, pretty much everyone else.
Yes, I know I can get weekly or monthly rentals on Airbnb, but at the prices they want to charge, itโs a better deal for me to live in a hotel. I get standardized white bedsheets that can be bleached so I know itโs clean. Most Airbnb places use colored bedsheets, and I donโt really know if itโs clean.
It takes me 10 minutes to pack. I travel light. Yes, you can explore other areas even if you arenโt staying in them, but you waste round trip time and money. So you save on the packing, check-in, check-out time, but you lose on the round trip commute.
I work at night from 10pm to 7am, so my social life is pretty much shot, except on the weekends. Thatโs ok though Iโve partied enough to last 3 lifetimes. As for building relationships, if thereโs somebody I find interesting in or near a particular hotel, I could choose to stay at that hotel more often.
Itโs a shift in mindset though. Instead of thinking of living in a specific part of town, I view the ENTIRE city as my home, so for example in Ho Chi Minh City, in any given day there are about 70 hotels that are within my budget. So itโs like having 70 homes spread throughout the city and I can choose to spend the night in any one of them. This provides for maximum flexibility.
I can understand this strategy if you donโt like your living space or you donโt like the city/location once you get there (and first time there) so you change. But Iโd find this tiring too, probably comes with age
I do this once a day, I see it as a daily commute. Some people stay in the same hotel but commute to their co-location places to work daily. I enjoy solitary work, and donโt go to co-location spots. I donโt think thereโs not a huge difference.
You miss out on the advantages of getting to know the hotel staff. After even a few days at the same hotel it feels like coming home to old friends who greet you by name in the hallways, restaurant, etc.
And you can usually negotiate a really good weekly rate if you know you are going to stay a while. They also start giving you more tips on good cheap local places to eat, etc.
I guess I can start doing that after Iโve found a hotel I really like. But I wonโt know which one I really like until Iโve seen all of them.
I have done it a couple of times, but as @andreainthai said I was doing it for a hotel review series. It was ok as I had a purpose, but not something I would want to do as a leisure activity!
Thatโs a good start to becoming a hotel review blogger. But personally I would never go through the hassle of changing hotel at all - except for when the place I picked turns out to be awful

I change hotel only if I donโt like my room, if itโs not clean, to small room, or similar.
But in general same place for entire stay.
In Vietnam, thereโs always something wrong with the room. Either itโs a 2-star hotel when it was advertised as 3-star, or the room is 15 m2, when it was advertised as 30 m2.
Not every day no, is that not a chore? I have stayed in a lot of hotels but thatโs seriously hardcore! done 4 countries in the last 7 days though and still managed to keep the clients happy
This is how I blanket an entire city when I first visit. Over a period of time I would have seen almost every nook and cranny and would know which hotel is good for what. ie. if I want to go clubbing on Friday night, then I would book a hotel walking distance from club. If I wanted to eat at a particular restaurant, I could book a hotel near the restaurant.

good god no. that sounds miserable. i donโt even like to change cities more than once a month or so if it can be avoided.
But it IS exploring the city. I largely stay within walking distance of the hotel. Each hotel has itโs own unique mix of restaurants, cafes, bars, massage parlors, and shops. After one is done exploring all the touristy stuff, this is the best way to explore local stuff.
Iโve been in the Ho Chi Minh City for almost 3 months, but thereโs enough hotels here to allow me to never sleep in the same place twice!
what is the point in this besides wasting time moving from place to place that you could spend exploring the city?
Iโm curious whether anyone drove to Mexico instead of flying and used their car down there. Iโve heard bad stories of people driving down there but not sure I believe them. How safe is it to drive through rural areas, and to park in cities? It would be cool to have the car to explore while there.
Any US nomads found health insurance with global coverage? My current approach has been to have US health insurance, essentially a waste of money but if I ever got very sick I could go home and have coverage. My actual healthcare is a combination of travel insurance (havenโt really used it much though) and paying cash in cheap places like SE Asia and Latin America. The cobbled together approach is neither simple nor very cost-effective. Love to find a product with global coverage that also satisfies Obamacare requirements. Any leads?

I recently started running a software consultancy in the UK that specialises in MVP development and onboarding/marketing strategies. I found it relatively easy to get leads by attending networking events (quite a lot here in Edinburgh).
I plan to start travelling soon, though. Has anybody tried to travel while running a software consultancy? Iโm really curious to find out how you handled finding new clients while doing that. Letโs say that if I go networking somewhere in Asia I wonโt find clients willing to spend much on a project (and canโt just pay my employees less because I canโt find good paying projects).
The situation is that my BF is a UK citizen and I am not. We are traveling around SEA and planning to stop in the UK for 6 months to rekindle funds. Granted, the UK is not the cheapest place to rekindle funds, however, he can work and get a good job there.
I have already done my working visa in the UK so I canโt legally work there again. Iโm a graphic designer and web designer and have decided that I will try and get freelance work to support myself whilst Iโm over there.
My question is more related to tax and visas. I am an Australia citizen so I can get a 3 month tourist visa. Iโm just a little worried about how strict they are over there on visas and questioning finance etc

Has anybody ever encountered a travel gear manufacturer that makes gear that is solid and durable, but that is intentionally designed to look old and crappy? For international travel, I want good, durable gear, but Iโm uncomfortable walking around with slick, brand-new-looking, expensive-looking gear (especially with my family in tow). Iโm happy to snatch up any good used gear (reduce, reuse, recycle) that weโre lucky enough to encounter, but selection is limited, and durability is often compromised. Seems like thereโd be a decent market for some durable but ragged-looking travel gear. What i have in mind is luggage, backpacks, laptop cases, smartphone cases, camera bags, infant/toddler carriers, etc. Iโm sensitive to the preppy fad of clueless, well-off westerners dressing up like the poor in naive but trendy mockery, but thatโs not what Iโm after, here. I just want good gear that doesnโt put a target on my back as we traipse around various parts of the world. Anybody have any thoughts on thisโฆ?

Soโฆ a few months ago when I was in Asia, for some reason I decided that it was gonna be too hot over the summer months and I wanted to mix it up with a few months touring Europe. So I had the idea to buy and RV and drive round for a few months.

Itโs taken a few months going through the process of getting my license to drive the RV, because itโs so large it wasnโt covered on my standard driving license. Add to that, I had some solar panels fitted for unlimited power, and a massive satellite dish for internet wherever I go.
Iโve now got my ferry booked out of the UK for September 11th and at the moment have no plans past the first few weeks.
Has anyone on here done anything similar before? Any places recommended, or anyone around Europe over the next few months?

Iโve just hit the 18-month mark of business in Hong Kong ready to submit by first Profit Tax Return. I also have the option of filing an Offshore Profits claim.
The Offshore Profits claim itself seems to be a convoluted, long drawn-out process with significant costs to bare in working with a certified CPA to answer Inland Revenue Department questioning.

Does anyone have experience staying somewhere with fast internet in Vientiane, Laos? I am going for only a few days for a visa run, and in the past I found decent places with barely adequate internet for checking email sometimes, but had to work from coffee shops. Would be nicer to be able to work from the hotel / guesthouse and work in the evening.
Alternatively, does anyone have experience with Laotian 3G/4G providers, how well do they actually work, which provider is good, etc. Thanks!

We are a husband and wife who travel a lot and have a small company set up in Fiji. We offer services to clients all over the world, but the Fijian banking system isnโt very accommodating for a digital based business with a lot of overseas expenses.
To make our life easier we are planning to set up an offshore company and bank account in Labuan.
We have a Fijian, Belgium and Uk passport but have residency in Fiji.
Does anybody have experience with a situation like this? and any advice how to go about setting up an offshore company and bank account ideally in Labuan (or Singapore)?

Iโm doing my research on nice places in SA/CA. Iโve been living in Argentina for the past 4 years and Iโve only been at the beach for 2 weeks (in Rio) almost 2 years ago. I know, itโs sad 
I want my next home to be close to the beach, and Iโve been hearing great things about Aruba. Iโm not planning on staying another 4 years at the new location, but at least a few months.
Has anyone lived and worked from there? Do they have fast and reliable internet? Is it affordable?
If not Aruba, which other places would you recommend to spend a few months close to the beach that are affordable and with high speed Wi-Fi?
Iโm thinking about staying in SA/CA because of the time zones. I work for an American company, so I think Iโd rather stay in a time zone thatโs not to far away from theirs.
Some other places that have crossed my mind are Guatemala City or Antigua, Quito, Costa Rica (although Iโve heard itโs expensive)โฆ
I still have a few months to think about it while I finish some paperwork in Buenos Aires, but Iโd like to leave around August/September.

I am a freelance graphic designer. My biggest hassle with traveling is carrying around my Mac. I always carry a tablet (for reading) and a computer for work. The Surface Pro combines these and has the power to run my Adobe design programs. The extra space it would enable would be great.
There are a few things that worry me. The small screen, getting use to Windows and not Mac, the large price tag and just knowing if it will really be powerful enough to run my Adobe programs.
Has anyone had experience using the Surface pro? Could you recommend anything that might be better.
Any advice would be appreciated

Is there anyone working for/running a social innovation project while on the road?
My boyfriend and I, from California, are starting our travels first around the USA. Weโve only stayed in a few locations, California and Colorado with Airbnb, and basically an entire semi-decent place to ourselves is $2k a month. And with payment securing our next monthโs place - rent comes to $4k a month. Obviously not sustainable, and not to mention a place missing most functional items to live comfortably is not ideal.
Unfortunately, this has turned my boyfriend off to traveling in general. He proposed we get a โhome baseโ, live cheap and travel out from there.
Do any of you do something similar? Have a home that you stay in for a certain amount of time, and do trips out from there? My worry is that normal life will settle in and no traveling will happen. But we are thinking if we can be on the winning side of Airbnb (the renters) then we can rent our place while we travel, and come back as needed.

I have been travelling and working from quite a few of the common places in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America over the past two years and Iโm looking for areas that are a little more off the common path of DNs.
Two years ago I was supposed to go to Mongolia for some trip, I already had my visa ready, but then I ended up not going because of some other incident. Since then Mongolia is a place that I really wanted to go to, and basically do some of the things Iโve planned to do two years ago:).
I donโt care much about the pollution in the city or (some people say) high crime rate, but Iโm quite worried about the quality of the internet connections there. The speed of the connection is not that important for me, but the reliability is, so I would be very interested in hearing experiences of people who have tried to work from there.
Has anybody here tried working from Ulaanbaatar before?
Need a cheap accountant to help with PTR, tax query letter (to justify offshore status), and maybe even shutting down my company there. Iโm with startupregistry.hk and tired of the โOh and then there is also this costโฆ And this oneโฆ And this oneโฆโ game. Thank you!
