Podgorica is a small and very safe city with a laid-back atmosphere, making it a good place for those looking to work or live affordably in Montenegro. The cost of living is lower than in coastal areas, and it's less crowded, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and bars that are mostly frequented by locals. The internet is reliable and fast, which is helpful for remote work or digital nomads. The city is also well connected by road, making it a practical base for exploring both the north and south regions of the country.
On the downside, Podgorica is not a tourist destination. Many visitors find it lacking in attractions and describe the architecture and city layout as uninteresting or even dull. While there are some natural spots like rivers and parks, there's generally not much for tourists to do or see in the city itself. Other Montenegrin cities such as Kotor or those along the coast are considered significantly more scenic and vibrant.
Overall, Podgorica is ideal for those seeking a quiet, affordable, and practical base, but travelers looking for sightseeing or cultural depth might want to look elsewhere in Montenegro.

Small city, very safe and chill. Internet in general was good, more affordable much less crowded than Kotor and all the beach cities in Montenegro.
Bars and restaurants during summer nights were full, mostly with locals, nice atmosphere.
There is nothing much to see in the city, besides the river and some parks, but it's good to work and focus.

It's a small city and a great place to work and go about your day.
Not very touristy and there are much better places in Montenegro to visit as a tourist but Podgorica is great as a base to explore both the north and south of the country as it's very well connected with roads in each direction.
It's very affordable compared to the coast and there are a lot of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Google "ugliest Balkan capital city reddit" and you see what is the most popular answer. I've been to all the Balkans, and Podgorica is probably the most "meh" and uninteresting city I remember visiting. Abandoned building without windows right on the main square of the capital of the country, are you kidding me? Really boring and although there are some things to see, but overall it's extremely generic, and you'd be better off going to other cities of Montenegro instead of Podgorica. Kotor for example is much more interesting, as well as some other cities on coast, or nature on the north.
