Podgorica is a small, quiet city that offers a safe and affordable living environment. The internet is fast and reliable, making it a practical choice for digital work or longer stays. While it lacks tourist attractions, it has a decent selection of cafes, bars, and restaurants, especially enjoyable during the summer when locals are out in the evenings. It’s also centrally located, making it a good base to explore other parts of Montenegro, including both the northern mountains and the coastal towns.
However, it’s not seen as a destination worth visiting on its own. The city is often described as boring or generic, with limited sights and some neglected or rundown buildings, even in central areas. It's better suited for a working stay or as a travel hub rather than for sightseeing or experiencing Montenegro's best features. Places like Kotor on the coast are highlighted as more visually appealing and culturally engaging.
In summary, Podgorica works well for those seeking a simple, safe, and cost-effective environment to live or work in, but it's not recommended if scenic beauty or a vibrant tourist experience is the goal.

Small city, very safe and chill. Internet in general was good, more affordable much less crowded than Kotor and all the beach cities in Montenegro.
Bars and restaurants during summer nights were full, mostly with locals, nice atmosphere.
There is nothing much to see in the city, besides the river and some parks, but it's good to work and focus.

It's a small city and a great place to work and go about your day.
Not very touristy and there are much better places in Montenegro to visit as a tourist but Podgorica is great as a base to explore both the north and south of the country as it's very well connected with roads in each direction.
It's very affordable compared to the coast and there are a lot of restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Google "ugliest Balkan capital city reddit" and you see what is the most popular answer. I've been to all the Balkans, and Podgorica is probably the most "meh" and uninteresting city I remember visiting. Abandoned building without windows right on the main square of the capital of the country, are you kidding me? Really boring and although there are some things to see, but overall it's extremely generic, and you'd be better off going to other cities of Montenegro instead of Podgorica. Kotor for example is much more interesting, as well as some other cities on coast, or nature on the north.
