Phu Quoc requires a bit of effort to enjoy properly. While much of the island caters heavily to mass tourism—with places like Grandworld cited as avoid-at-all-costs due to overdevelopment—there are peaceful pockets ideal for digital nomads or anyone seeking solitude. Areas inland and around smaller guesthouses offer a quiet environment with great natural scenery like beaches, waterfalls, and jungles nearby.

Fast and reliable internet makes it a strong choice for remote work, especially if you’re looking for an undistracted environment. Many accommodations, such as eco-lodges or locally run guesthouses, are affordable (especially when bargaining in person), quiet, and functional. Staying clear of resorts is recommended, and it’s best to book just the first few nights before finding a place on the ground.

The food scene is a highlight, with a wide variety of super cheap and delicious options. Safety and low traffic make it easy to explore by motorbike. However, it's important to note some issues, such as trash in certain nature spots and a general lack of stimulating activities, which could be a downside for some travelers. Overall, it’s best suited for those wanting a quiet, affordable, and safe stay close to nature.

My best place to work in LONELINESS(that's an important remark) ever! Just 300 meters from the main street – you will find secluded guesthouses and small local resorts, which are completely quiet and peaceful.

Fast internet. And almost nothing to do :) which is prefect to finish important projects. Highly recommended for that purpose. No one will distract you from your task. That's quite cool. And still.. you have jungles, beautiful scenery, beautiful sea 5 minutes from your place(!), amazing sunsets, unbelievable variety of food (super cheap!!!), swimming pools, roads ro drive a motorbike without any traffic, super friendly people, place is extremely safe, and... a lot of other perks!

Accommodation:
Never book in advance (just a hotel for first 2-3 nights). Ask the price per month in person! It's always 2-3 times cheaper, than booking our Airbnb shows. Great (I mean it!) accommodations are just for 200-250$ per month! But only if you ask in person and bargain. It's Asia :)

Phu Quoc takes a bit of effort to get the best out of. It's very resorty and there's some horrific tourist hellholes like 'Grandworld' which is an imitation world that is monstrously large and destroying the island.

However, there are some really good restaurants. Inland you can find some nice hiking spots and viewpoints (they're not easy to find). The waterfalls are nice if you hike further up them away from the piles of trash left by the locals.

We stayed at Phu Quoc ecolodge which was stunning and really a good place to work. Good WiFi, provide free and delicious tea all day and such a good range of drinks. Also kikicoconut would be nice to stay at - was our other option and we got to know the owner.
I'd say it's worth going to if you're in Vietnam and fancy going to an island. Just avoid staying in a resort.

Very nice place to stay a few days. I would not recommend to stay very long, since there is not much to do. On the other hand its a beautiful place to relax.
There will be a lot of tourists in the next years, so go there before that will happen.
