At immigration, what do you usually state your purpose of visit is after a short visa run?

I'm guessing the officers already know the digital nomad pattern. Just saying "tourism" seems to be a bit dishonest, doesn't it? Or is that just the norm and usually no further questions are asked?

I don’t remember ever getting asked at Ho Chi Minh airport and if I was no further questions asked. If you say digital nomad that could cause trouble - at least in Thailand it does.

You should say tourism, I wouldn’t bet on digital nomad or anything work related unless you have a visa that allows you to work here. And being a digital nomad without a relevant visa is actually a legally gray line, if not illegal. There are people here who know this better than I probably, but I just wanted to reach out because I’ve heard of people getting denied entry to some countries over this, and some people getting fined. Hope this helps!

I guess I will just say "tourism" and if they ask why the last 3 months weren't enough and why I needed 3 more, I'll just say that their country is so vast and beautiful that I haven't been able to cover it yet hahaha 😅

But yeah, mostly they won't ask anything at all. Just preparing for the worst as too many wars happening around so you never know how protocols might change.

For example, I decided to skip the Moc Bai land port visa run as a visa agent said they're denying entry to Indians at land ports. Although that's when entering Cambodia not Vietnam.

I’d book an onward ticket with a service like onwardify to ensure them that you intend to go back if you’re doing a visa run. Also, be careful about tax regulations, you might accidentally become a tax resident in some countries if you stay that long.

Good luck! Viet Nam really is amazing. I don’t think your excuse will surprise them. ✨

Haha yeah - it ended up being the most seamless run ever. I usually don't worry about all this (have done this a few times previously), but hearing about the Cambodia land border issues made me question my optimism haha! While that was due to the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, I thought the Iran war could also have some effects. But gladly it didn't.

Also, I'm not affiliated with this in any way, just had a great experience with this Visa agency - both in terms of communication clarity/responsiveness as well as prices ($60 for same day visa). Far better than the 5 other agencies that show up on Google/AI search that were slow, disinterested and charged $120-160 for same day processing.

I think it’s better because people are less fake nice. I think it’s better because value for money is much better for almost anything.

I also think Thailand is a place absolutely overrun by tourists. To me it seemed all is build to cater tourists. In Vietnam you can find this a lot too but it has still much more authenticity which I liked a lot.

(I’m comparing it overall in my experience. I personally LOVED Chiang Mai in Thailand, but very much disliked the experience on the islands)

Check with their hotels, the hotels here are required to report stays to the police

I am not in Vietnam at the moment but did you try calling the emergency number of his embassy? They usually have a separate number. On Monday morning you should be able to reach them either way.

How long have you not been able to reach him?

The embassy finally got back to us late last night and located him this morning. He was unconscious in the hospital 😢. Sounds like he’ll be okay tho.

Can anyone recommend a pharmacy who provides ADHD medication in Da Nang? I’m only able to access Modafinil which doesn’t help. Many thanks

Depends on the medication, if it's a precursor to meth it may be restricted in VN. Drug laws are strict and testing is known to happen

Also, curious if anyone has gotten the DT4 and what they know about it. I don't have 3 billion VND to invest, but the visa does say "up to" so I'm curious if I need to be primary business owner, if there's a minimum, and what stakes really look like. I've been here for 9 months and would like to become even more long-term because a life of required solo travelling is kind of existentially painful. 😅
