Food variety on a good standard? Yeah in some places food was okay, but the quality of ingredients was not always the best. I liked a lot bun cha ha noi, until after having it some times I started to feel the low quality fat of the meat in my mouth. Few dishes were okay , yeah good, but it's not to me that they were better than italian food (from south of italy for example) or japanese cuisine. That's tastes, okay
anomad 29d
I felt a bit "scammed" by videos of nomads saying how da nang is so amazing with color corrections on their videos making it seem so unbelievable and with so many things to do

It's a beach. With a sea. Some asian people. Some tourists. You go away from the beach, it's mostly a broken city/road/buildings with bad traffic around. I did some guided tour, went out in some places, etc, I even did karaoke with a random family that singed together with me. Okay. But I haven't found much else
anomad 29d
I also was there during low season so yeah maybe now there are more events to do etc because there is higher tourism. Okay that's nice
mrhuebner 29d
Vibrant community means having a full event calendar of meetups, events, sports activities, outdoor stuff, and other opportunities to mingle and get to know people.
"Authentic local" means opposed to fake tourist attractions and rip-offs.
anomad 29d
Okay how does someone have that full event calendar ?
Also: how do you work in the meantime. And how much does it cost. These are two fundamental factors to take into the math here
anomad 29d
That seems interesting
anomad 29d
And for the authentic local things, yeah, idk how much living there a couple weeks or a couple months as a foreigner with much more money than the average local, can be an authentic local experience. I never tried to feel "authentic" and local. I'm authentic just as I am lol. I won't ever be an"authentic vietnamese" cause I'm not vietnamese and I come from a privileged country compared to theirs, so it's not a "local experience" imo, it's just not getting scammed. I thought this was normal.. like.. "not getting scammed" is not "authentic local experience", it's just not getting scammed

This thing I also see with americans coming to italy. If you go to italy and eat a pizza you're not an authentic italian. If someone gets you to think that, that's a scam lol. You're just eating a pizza in italy that is not a scam (fake bad overpriced pizzas that some bad people sell to tourists). This makes sense. "authentic local experience" seems just marketing words, to me

The authentic local doesn't do most of those activities, probably. So they are anyway targeted to foreigners/tourists/nomads

Troll removed?
jonmyers 28d
Never understood the obsession with meetups. Not hard to meet people. Find places/ activities you like, become a regular. That's it.

Meetups often draw the socially inept.
What do you mean by this? Itโ€™s a few days of unusually bad weather. Will be sunny again soon.
Or do both lol
jonmyers 28d
Meaning, Iโ€™ve heard nothing but complaints about the weather for months. Assumed the worst of it over.

Didnโ€™t expect, 22 and overcast for days.
khizrs 28d

When applying for the visa I get "Portrait photo was captured from another source. Your application may be rejected. Please upload another photo". Do you really get declined? My photo is the original photo I used for my passport 1.5 years ago.

any recommendations of airbnbโ€™s in Da Nang with good and stable wifi? Sadly due to my company privacy policy Iโ€™m not allowed to work outisde.

Just arrive and go and have a scoot about and look at some places. Personally Iโ€™ve never had an issue with WiFi at any hotel in Vietnam and Iโ€™ve stayed in several

Welcome to Vietnam. Safer than France, Germany, Italy - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/spring-break-travel-dangers-fbi-warning/
brendanb 27d
I have had huge issue with wifi all over Vietnam. There definitely are good places, but I would assume most places have crap wifi unless there are good reviews to the contrary.
khizrs 27d
Ignore the reviews and see for yourself
Also here working in HCMC (first time) let me know if you find something! Iโ€™m just using local cafes, and so far the WiFi has been fine everywhere. 300+ in one right by my Airbnb.
I feel like I keep running into scammy agents asking for huge deposits, the owner is never present, and I visited flats in the same building but not the actual unit. Does anyone have a serious, verified, and trusted agent theyโ€™d recommend? Maybe tftsvdgked
allgo 26d
Yes, I can recommend my agent

Hello Everyone

Just landed in Ho Chi Minh and looking for ppl to connect and celebrate saturday
ezh047 18d
Hey anyone HCMC
Hey all, I got last minute cancelled from my 1 month stay in Da Nang and now trying to find an alternative. Airbnb and Booking.com a bit iffy, Facebook groups seem scammy.

Any pointers for where I should be looking or a reliable local contact are highly appreciated ๐Ÿ™
khizrs 17d
Are you in danang now?
Yeah
Got a place for 1 night
We got massive discounts on a four star hotel in Da Nang on Agoda. Maybe you can find something on there.
regiani 17d
Is Agoda better than Booking for Vietnam? What's the price difference?
Depends on the hotel. We managed to book a four-star hotel here in Da Nang for 1,090โ‚ฌ instead of almost 3,000โ‚ฌ for a month.
Agoda seems to be universally cheaper in most of Asia.
Yup, unless you have a high level on Booking's loyalty program, then it's mostly the same.
I am Genius Level 3 on booking, but even then ended up mostly using Agoda because it was cheaper. They do work quite a bit with cashbacks though, so you might initially pay more, and then get some of the money back a couple of months later.
ccooper 16d
Agoda also offer different prices depending on where you come from. Sometimes going thro google maps is cheaper
Got this sorted, previous Airbnb owner had a place for me, a good one even at a great price. Luck favoured me here really, haha. Thanks for everyone's help.
Glad it worked out for you!
How often does the power go out in Phu Quoc? What places have a backup generator in case of work. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ™
Hey guys. Any recommendations on a visa agent. Or is the direct website reliable. Last i tried it kept asking me to update it all the time
tonyd 16d
Direct website is fine. Give yourself at least a week ahead of arrival to apply. Takes a few days to process usually.

Make sure to double check your entries of passport, dates etc. has to match 100%

Anyone have any good recommendations for accommodations in Da Nang. Preferably by the beach in a high rise for less than $600 USD/mo
Kua Casa was nice :)
Any cowork recommendations in da lat?
markus 13d
Strange, there is no agency necessary. where are you from?
allgo 13d
Well, provide the information.

Agencies generally are in cahoots with the corrupt immigration department ls
onmeut 13d
Iran
markus 13d
Ok, so your situation seems different from most people in this group because of your nationality.
Just ask the person who tried to contact you and compare agency prices if you really need an agency.

They might need hotel bookings and your visa will only be valid for that duration.
You also need an onward ticket (flight) I think.
clarence 12d
Hello! My name is Clarence

Iโ€™ll be arriving to HCMC this Saturday. Let me know if you are down for a meetup either working together from a cafe or grabbing some foods ๐Ÿ˜„

Dear Nomads, help me to chose between:
DA NAANG
NHA TRANG

And why?
tonyd 11d
Probably help to say what you are looking for, what you like to do etc etc.
ezh047 11d
In general which is better palace for a nomad ?
markus 11d
Nha Trang is boring
Da Nang is better for nomads
Where do you go in Da Nang if you want to spend some time in peace? Like a quiet place, with no or very few other places, no obligation to buy anything to be "allowed to be there", no traffic noise, no void-of-talent karaoke. Something like a park, a library, idk. We've been here for over a month now and haven't found anything.
Hey all ๐Ÿ‘‹ I got the itch to do a spontaneous trip to Hoi An tomorrow from Da Nang. Would love to meet up and have a few talks and laughs with anyone with similar plans. Iโ€™ll probably get going around 12 in the morning and get back late or stay for the night, weโ€™ll see. Feel free to DM!
You don't like the beach?
I can only recommend Green Coworking!

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wc6jjy9jPAChFCnB7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

You pay pretty much nothing to stay there with good WiFi and free coffee ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ
slaster 9d
If you struggle with English but good at Russian Nha Trang might be better. There is a solid Russian community there. The ones in HCMC and da Nang are smaller. However id youโ€™re very comfortable in English Da Nang is the best (outside of November - Jan that is)
slaster 9d
Da Nang is depressingly rainy during that time
allgo 9d
You can watch the sunset starting from the Sunset Viewpoint and going south until you find peace from the Banh Bao men
or going notth if youโ€™re into history where thereโ€™s a French & Spanish soldiers' cemetery from Vietnam's 1st invasion

Hey everyone in Da Nang!
Weโ€™re having a small, friendly get-together today by the sea โ€” chill vibes, lots of grilled food, awesome people, a cozy beach, and sunset views.
Iโ€™m helping organize it, and thereโ€™s free entrance for Nomads.com community members
If youโ€™re around and feel like joining, just drop me a message.
No pressure โ€” just good people, good food & good laughs ๐Ÿ˜Ž
