Guys any information on updated visa regulations for foreigners?

As of now, most nationalities don't need it. It might be primarily intended for Indians of which there are many in Georgia.

Or it may be in the light of the preparation to abolish the 365-days visa-free regime for the other nationalities and replace it with the usual 90 days (there is no info about this yet but I myself have a strong feeling that it's coming).

Georgian Airways just cancelled my flight in June and it looks like it might be going bankrupt. I checked after seeing a post about it, so I'm not the only one.

It's been in a near-bankrupt state for the past 6-7 years or so, so it's not a surprise 🤷🏼‍♂️

TBC is the easiest for non-residents at the moment, and it's a good bank too. Pretty much nothing is required, just fill out a form. That may depend on your citizenship, though. If you are from Europe/North America, there are zero issues. For the citizens of the 3rd world countries, the KYC may be tougher (for Indians - used to be especially difficult).

I’m currently living in Germany 🇩🇪 and planning to build a digital business that I can run remotely while traveling.

My initial idea was to move to Georgia 🇬🇪 for at least 183 days, establish tax residency there, and potentially use that as my new tax residency instead of Germany. My goal is to have a clear tax residency somewhere while building the business and then become more location-independent afterward.

A few questions for those who have experience with this:

Is Georgia a good choice for this strategy, or would you recommend a different tax residency with low taxes on foreign-sourced income?
If in the second year, I’m not spending 183 days in Georgia anymore and I’m also not spending enough time in any other country to become tax resident there, how does taxation work in practice? What happens with my business?
Has anyone here built a location-independent business using Georgia as their base and then transitioned into a more nomadic lifestyle?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually done something similar.

Georgia is slowly becoming less foreigner-friendly, just keep that in mind. For example, it's become very difficult to hire foreign employees. Right now its' still one of the best countries to operate from independently, but we don't know what's gonna happen in a year or two (the government has been printing new laws at a crazy pace recently).

If you operate as an individual entrepreneur, you pay the same taxes regardless of your tax residency, it doesn't really matter whether you stay 183 days or not. You should mainly worry about Germany wanting to consider you a German tax resident depending on the circumstances (and yeah, for that you may need a doc from Georgia proving that you're a tax resident there).

You taxation is usually the place of your habitual residence, and usually defined by a place where you spend more than half a year, in the case you are to spend less than 6 months everywhere, the country where you primarily resides previously would come into play and claim you their tax resident, and then it will comes to the closer connection principle, if you maintain citizenship, PR, a place of residence where you rented for the year or family, you get to be the tax residency in that country based on the closer connection principle.

Main thing is to geek out on your citizenship country's tax system. With the UK, it's more like their claims to your tax reduce over 5 years. Random countries you travel to briefly are unlikely to want to tax you. There's not like some UN system here. The extreme example is the US, which taxes citizens (minus local taxes) wherever they are.

I spend 183 days here in part because I want tax residency clear. I think others do less than 183.

Hey Grischa. I get you're looking for the best way to tackle the tax residency. The key element is to distinguish between your personal and your business tax residency. I'm Polish, so my personal tax residency was there. In 2022, I switched my personal tax residency to Portugal, as their NHR program was a good fit for me. And because I'm already an EU citizen, there's no strict day-count requirement for me to be in Portugal. As long as I continue to pay my personal taxes in Portugal.

However, all my business activities are done via my UK limited company. I set it up in 2014, and all my remote work contracts are done via it. So I pay corporation tax in the UK from my business income. Regardless of where I am in the world.

From what I know, Germany is one of the strictest countries when it comes to tax residency. You'll need to explicitly state and prove that you moved your tax residency from Germany to Georgia. If after a year your tax residency isn't in Georgia anymore, then it may raise some suspicion in the German tax authorities.

In short, I'd advise creating a limited company and doing all your business activities via it. Only once you figure that out, can you start thinking about your personal tax residency.

Train from Rioni is my standard approach. You need to book on tre.ge in Summer. Now about 2 1/2hrs. There's a bus from Kutaisi to Rioni, or a taxi should be not much. There's also Kutaisi airport station if it doesn't work

Not my speciality, but maybe things like Mutant Radio or Left Bank (not sure when starts). Maybe Lado. Otherwise more like bars (Old Town in particular). There's a complex around Zeche that can get quite lively (entrance is a little unobvious). Maybe Pluto's Records.

Areas: Chugureti, Marjanishvili, Vera, Sololaki, Mtatsminda, Avlabari —
I'll be working out of The Hub on Terenti Graneli, so walking distance
beats square metres. Vake and Saburtalo also fine.

What I actually need: a proper desk and chair, fast wifi, AC, and a
freezer (I travel with a blender). Most of all — quiet. I'm a light
sleeper, so courtyard-facing beats street-facing, and please tell me if
there's any renovation or construction going on in or around the building.

I can view this week. Czech, non-smoker, no pets, no parties, happy to
look after plants while you're away.
