Went with Telcel in the end. Best coverage, cheapest option, just a lot of spam calls and texts. you unsubscribe from some and block a lot of it though.

how long will you be there for? i'll be there on the 28th - 6th

Just moved to CDMX, any tips? Meet-ups, hidden gems etc
Hey Dan! I've lived here since 2022 and I love it. My caveat is I like daytime social events more than night (IOW, I don't have rave clubs to recommend). My favorite gem is Huerto Roma Verde. The Saturday/Sunday mercado there usually has a lot crazy cool things for sale (more so than most any mercado I've seen). Also, about twice a month they have ecstatic dance in the geodesic dome (one that starts in the morning, and one that starts in the evening). I also recently learned they occasionally host temazcal ceremonies (think sweat-lodge).
Anyway, I myself decided its time to join both Mexica dancing and a drum circle...I'm still looking for these.

Great recommendations, thanks.

Hey all ๐Ÿ˜Š anyone hanging around Oaxaca, the coast city or mountains?
glyphx 2mo
Am on the coast until July-ish
gigabee 2mo
Nice, I'll be heading down in the next few weeks. Know some cool events going down?
bryanng 2mo
Hey all, Iโ€™ll be in Rome Norte for the next 2 weeks if anyone wants to meet!
glyphx 2mo
Not off the top of my head. Santa Semana just finished up this weekend which was the big thing this time of year.

There is a site called pxm unlocked that can provide some clues, as well as other resources that I keep getting muted for mentioning ๐Ÿ˜‚
gigabee 2mo
Exclusive cool kids club hey ๐Ÿ˜‚ no worries! I'll prob be heading down to the coast in a couple of weeks. Lmk if u keen for a drink.

They don't like competition around here apparently ๐Ÿ˜‚. I tried a variety of ways to phrase it but banned every time ๐Ÿ˜…

Is pretty slow on the coast apart from regular club nights and smaller community focused events. Haven't seen much in the way of crypto at all, but there is a pretty solid plant medicine community.

Keep me posted when you make it down. It sounds like we'd have some things to chat about and I can link you to more resources. ๐Ÿ‘Š
gigabee 2mo
That'd be awesome! Thanks! I'm down to make a community out there so anyone you can connect me with in puerto, mazunte, zipo, or even here in Oaxaca is always welcome. Will keep you in the loop, i appreciate it ๐Ÿ‘
I recently asked someone about Jamaica and they indicated that it was the same as any other country in terms of safety.. it's safe unless you go to the obviously bad areas which you'd never randomly wonder into anyway.

Hello, anyone in Puebla?
Who lived in San Cristobal ? Pros and cons?
I've just visited for a few weeks
it was cheap, tasty, but very noisy
You mean downtown is noisy?
gigabee 2mo
I'd live there if it weren't for the water issues
Just wash veggies/ fruits and cook with bottled water
no, there were constant explosions

Can anyone recommend a good nomad spot with surf and a good cowork?

Thinking of spending three months September - December this year out there
moises001 16d
A friend from Argentina stood in Los Cabos for a few weeks, no complain about internet speed and there are some coworking spaces

You will very likely get a gastro related infection (due to the water). Itโ€™s an amazing place besides this

Hello! Me and my girlfriend are trying to figure out how to handle Visas so that we can stay in Mexico for an extended period of time and work on our startups. We are US citizens and we would like to live in Mexico for at least 6 months while we build our businesses. We're trying to get temporary residency visas. Since we don't have secured remote jobs we don't meet the ongoing and income requirements but we do meet the investment income requirements. I'm curious what others have done. Are people just going on tourist visas?
atti1a 15d
US citizens can stay for 180 days w/o visa + no wait time for clock reset...
leighb77 15d
Which are the best areas for 4-6 months to knuckle down and work on your start up ? I was looking at tulum or playa del Carmen but keen to hear other input ๐Ÿ˜
If you are looking for beach, I have no input. I can only speak for Mexico City (CDMX). In CDMX, I suggest colonia "La Condesa" or Roma.
atti1a 15d
you may like san jose del cabo, but my reqs are few when grinding
leighb77 15d
I love the beach for when I take. Break get some air , walk etc -thanks ๐Ÿ˜

Yes beach for me thank you

From what we have read it's technically illegal to make money online while there on a tourist visa. However it seems enforcement of this is low. Is this what other nomads are doing?
I already had a contract when I moved to Mexico, obtaining my residential visa. However, I think the claim that you cannot work in Mexico w/o a residential visa (i.e. only a tourist visa) is incorrect without qualification. Specifically, you are likely not allowed to have income from a Mexican source while on a tourist visa. If, however, you have income from elsewhere (i.e. online work from a U.S. based company) then you should be fine.
As for staying more than six months...
1) Normally the process of obtaining a residential visa must begin in the U.S., but visiting a Mexican consulate (and typically you make an appointment with them, for which you must wait 3 months). They will expect a lot of paperwork from you.
2) If meanwhile you have only a tourist visa, you can fly back to the U.S. for a couple days - then return to Mexico - to cause your tourist visa duration to be reset back to zero.

When I got my residency through regularization, immigration asked if I was working and where the company was based. They had no issues and mostly seemed concerned I could support myself.
atti1a 14d
del cabo has beaches. less touristy than cabo san lucas. would also look into cozumel
glyphx 14d
If anyone was planning on going to the coast of Oaxaca anytime soon its probably a good idea to change plans. Sounds like they will be rebuilding for quite some time after tonights hurricane.
gigabee 14d
How bad did u guys get hit in puerto?
glyphx 14d
Sounds like between Barra 2 and Zicatela is in OK shape so far with no deaths. Still waiting for more info as its mostly just scattered reports coming through. I had an appointment out of town so missed this one.
