Hi all,

What esim can you recommend for China? As my understanding all HK esims don't need VPN, and some should have working phone number. But I'm guessing even if I have HK number not all apps will work with it? So what's ideal, 2 sims - one mainland for apps and one HK for internet? I'm planning to stay extended period of time - as long as I can survive lol

Usually I just use Airalo but without a local number I will probably be struggling in China a lot

Airalo works fine for me every trip and it comes with a built-in VPN, but you need separate ones for mainland and HK

oh yeah, good luck using de-googled phones with any of the Chinese megaapps. same shit here in Thailand - banking apps don’t work on de-googled software

If I visit China, how can i connect to regular Internet = Google Cloud, github,, amazon web services, social media, etc
is a VPN good enough
Also, for payments, I think my phone NFC does not work, and to be honest never used.
No happy with WebChat, but i can do alipay and pay with QR code is okay for me ( like in Thailand )

You will be lucky if visa is accepted. I’ve been to shops that accept visa but the staff have no idea how to take payment using a card.
You can use it in WeChat and Alipay
