I have a question for people who are currently in Vietnam as digital nomads and who work remotely, What do you do?

How do you earn money?
What type of business or freelancing do you do?

I want to come to Asia, I have savings for the next 6 months and I plan to live in Da Nang, Chiang Mai and Canggu, Bali in those 6 months.

I have my personal blog that I want to start, but that will take time until I start to earn money, I need to build an audience and content first, so I am interested in what I can start to do remote maybe part time to support myself while building business.

I understand that we are all different but I am curious what you did?

Also if you did something else remote while supporting your business in the beginning of your journey I am also interested to hear your story.

Thank you so much.
I am very grateful if you put effort into answering and I am very grateful for every response.

Nenad
markus 2mo
I have been running a translation agency remotely for 13 years. I started in Chiang Mai while staying in a place for 100 USD per month. With service businesses it's easy to make money quickly.
Many nomads have jobs or work as a freelancer. It depends on your skillset. Here on NomadList you meet more people who have remote jobs as software developers. In Canggu you will meet many people who try to make a living as a coach or with crypto.
It's rare that people make a living with a personal blog - even in such cheap places.
nenadboka 2mo
Hey man, thank you for your response. Oo I definetely want to build my business blog will be just a way of creating content because I am best at writing, I definetely want to create and sell some courses or coaching, I just want to start to see what of three options I like the most and what people who will consume my content want the most. But yeah, idea is not to earn from blog or just writing.
I currently split my time between Japan and Vietnam, working remotely as a software engineer for a great Japanese company that supports flexible work across Asia.

I'm think on moving full time to Vietnam but anyone has expirience with DN1 or TTRC Visa with they own company?
About the freelancer route, do you mean that most people who do freelance work register and pay taxes in their home country while living abroad on a tourist visa?
markus 2mo
Yes. There are also many who evade taxes (I wouldn't do this) or stay for less than 6 months per year.

Hello ! Anyone in Da Nang for a few beers this week ? Just arrived with my wife ! ๐Ÿคฉ
jayysd 2mo
Hi guys, I am visiting danang in few weeks,

Wanted to ask about bana hills, and the cablecar, is that all included in the price of sunworld?
martimart 2mo
Hey, im coming to da nang on tuesday. I'm up for a few beers
Yes, you can just book through their official site. All you have to care about is getting to the station of the cable car. I'd recommend just booking a ride via Xanh SM in the morning. No need to arrange anything upfront.
jayysd 2mo
Cab apps like bolt/grab work right?
Grab works, don't know about Bolt. But Xanh SM is a Vietnamese version of the same thing, but all cars are electric, the drivers tend to be less scammy and it's cheaper. We switched from Grab to Xanh in our two months in Da Nang and liked it way more. Maybe give it a try.
jayysd 2mo
Thanks man
markus 1mo
Interesting, how can Grab drivers be scammy in Danang? Never had that in Ho Chi Minh CITY.
tonyd 1mo
Never had an issue with a Grab driver
martimart 1mo
I just arrived to Da Nang, any tips to must visit coworking spaces? Iโ€™ve been looking at Seaview and Hanaโ€™s
tonyd 1mo
I really liked Hive
flooone 1mo
+ 1 for hive, Iโ€™m there every day
martimart 1mo
Thank you, Iโ€™ll check out Hive tomorrow or Friday
"Scammy" might be a stretch, but the constant attempt to upsell us or to book any expensive private tours we didn't need got annoying after a few weeks. With Xanh, we didn't have that nearly as much. Drivers seemed to be much more open, often decades younger as well. Sorry about the confusion tho, scammy might be the wrong term.
markus 1mo
Wow, that sounds like something like Phuket. Upsell you what?
Trying to charge toll fees that don't exist, airport fees that are already covered by Grab, etc. But mostly stuff like, "Oh you want to go to Ba Na Hills / Hoi An? I can arrange a tour and buy the tickets for you (and it will only be twice as expensive with no added benefit for you)" etc. We've been using Grab for one month, daily, and the Ba Na Hills / Hoi An thing "came up" 15-20 times, so a little more than every second day I'd say.
Never had these kinds of issues in Thailand btw, although we've only been to Ao Nang, Bangkok and Chiang Mai so far.
khizrs 1mo
TBH Grab is rubbish anyway, if you're in Danang use SM Green taxi or Indrive.

If you're in Bangkok use a metered taxi off the grab app.

Grab is always the most expensive option in my experience.
khizrs 1mo
HCMC city and hanoi the problem I have had a couple of times with Grab were drivers from out of town that had no idea where they were going and can't use google maps properly.

I use Xanh SM, Vina sun app or mai lin app when I am there.
Yeah, the navigation skills were also an issue. One dude was playing some mobile game while driving, got lost and then mumbled "five star" when we finally got out. ๐Ÿคท
dexter 1mo
For a solo female, grab is dangerous. My friend was videotaped her entire road from haiphong to Bแบฟn phร  Gรณt ferry.. But I guess that is people specific. Personally I never faced much problem except few angry old drivers
markus 1mo
Are you sure that this wasn't the Grab safety feature that they have now?
dexter 1mo
She was travelling with another guy. I am 100% sure because they were scared and called me when they stopped near ferry. What is the point of safety feature when you are already terrified and sitting in the car.
dexter 1mo
Inside city it is fanstastic (as said I faced bad drivers too but only and only in Haiphong mostly)
dexter 1mo
not bad.
dexter 1mo
they were angry
Hey guys any visa agency recommendations. I cannot for the life of me get through their evisa website. Just get stuck in loops or payment dorsnt work
khizrs 1mo
Are you on the real site
Yup the gov vn one
khizrs 1mo
Different browser? Incognito mode ? Disabled ad blockers?
markus 1mo
you can also pay an agent
khizrs 1mo
Waste of money tho๐Ÿ˜‚ getting someone to type stuff into a website for you
oskars 1mo
Have you even read Dar's message to the end?
khizrs 1mo
Of course but itโ€™s possibly a problem with his computer rather than the website
Highly unlikely its my laptop. Ive tried multiple machines. In multiple occasions just getting the run around really
Its alright. I got an agents number. Will attempt. But alternatives are encouraged if you folks have any
markus 1mo
What do you mean by stuck in loops? Have you tried another credit card?
the payment gateway didnt even load. Much less that far
khizrs 1mo
Try using a vpn your IP or country may be blocked
tonyd 1mo
Remember you need to do a whole new application if the payment fails.. it looks like you can try again, but it will not work in my experience. New application is the only way after payment fails.
Hello, I applied for e-visa and used my hostel info from booking. But I got this message "please provide information of the tourist company". Has anyone experienced this before or know what to do?
dexter 1mo
Always use some random hotel address. Now you're toast. So put random tourist company name from HCMC
mrdeeodus 30d
Hey everyone! Thinking of HCMC as my first digital nomad experience, every tips welcomed :)
fruntxas 30d
You can do better :P
If it's Vietnam, maybe Hanoi or DaNang is better to start
I'd agree with Da Nang, however the locals in Da Nang would disagree with Ha Noi. ๐Ÿ˜„ Haven't been there myself though.
regiani 29d
Best grill in HCMC? AKA style
markus 29d
I heard that Saigon Grill is nice. Quan Ut Ut is nice for American BBQ. I haven't been for years, though.
markus 29d
Hey! I love HCMC and have been here 6 months per year for a decade.
It felt really overwhelming for me the first time I visited so I'd make sure to get a quiet apartment.
Hanoi has even hotter weather now and air pollution is worse.

Anyone got a Vietnam visa recently? How long did it take? My friend applied on Friday last week and has a flight to Vietnam on Tuesday night.
markus 28d
How much is the express service by an agent? She already paid the visa online and got quoted 115 USD extra.
zegerh 28d
i once paid $200 for next-day visa, normal online one took like 4 business days or something for me last time
oskars 28d
For me it always takes 3โ€“5 working days. You can check Vietnamese holidays, if there were any your friend won't get their visa on time.
khizrs 28d
Mine took exactly 3 working days. Applied 24 got it today

Hey everyone! Iโ€™m in Ho Chi Minh City until Saturday morning and had a spontaneous idea โ€” Iโ€™m looking to get some content captured while Iโ€™m here (photos + video/b-roll style).

Iโ€™m building up my social media presence as a coach and Kundalini Activation facilitator, and would love to either collaborate with someone who does this kind of work or team up with others who are also keen to shoot some content.

Open to doing an energy exchange if youโ€™re a photographer or videographer โ€” happy to offer a Kundalini Activation session in return ๐Ÿ™โœจ

What is the current situation in Vietnam on the driving licenses and being stopped the police?
Is showing the International Driving License enough or they didn't even care about it and you need a Vietnamese driving license officially?
Asking since I'll be doing Danang, Hue and Hoi An with the Hai Van Pass included in late August
appels 3d
Hey Tiago, I was in Vietnam, DaNang - Hue - Hoi An... With my international driver's licence I was able to get a more powerful bike
Never had to show it to a police on the road..
๐Ÿคท
Only once encountered police on bikes late at night passing by

I believe you can rent simple scooters without and more cc = international

My 2 cents and experience
Thanks a bunch.
Sometimes you are lucky sometimes you are not interested apparently.
with you country permit it's ok
On my country's license I am only allowed up to 125cc
But the IDL doesn't even recognize that.
i guess they check you country license at first
Sometimes yes. I got different situations already.
Last time all I had to do was take out the IDL and they sent me a way.
andrej 3d
Spent 6+ months in total on different occasions in Da Nang, was riding a motorbike every day. Never got pulled over by the police
markus 3d
I havenโ€˜t been pulled over by police in Ho Chi Minh City in the last 3 months.
Another foreigner was pulled over outside the city and asked for 20 million. His VN gf negotiated down to 10. crazy
Since I'm on this....which bike would you recommend?
2 people (~130kg) + 2 bags (~18kg)...
Would prefer Automatic or Semi over a Manual
