Who’s been to Thailand and Vietnam for a significant period of time and can compare the two in terms of A. hospitality/friendliness and B. ease of communication in English (scale from 1-10)?

It doesn’t work with Revolut, maybe with Wise. It seems to be mainly designed for Americans. You have to transfer USD first and then convert it to VND using their exchange rate, which of course isn’t great.

A. It Depends from area Thailand. And my opinion Thai peoples more friendly outside, but meaner inside. Vietnamese opposite. B. 7 for Thai. 5 for Vietnam

A. Vietnam is 10x better
B. Thai little more English but in Vietnam people take time to understand and nowadays with translate I don’t face any issueses

Maybe consider a hotel, many offer insane deals: if you are into fitness, IMO the best affordable, modern hotels in Da Nang with a good gym & large pool for swimming are the ones below.

Start with Airbnb and then look around when walking outside. You might find better deals. I have not investigated those offers though. I was there for too short a time for it to be worth it.

I'm guessing the officers already know the digital nomad pattern. Just saying "tourism" seems to be a bit dishonest, doesn't it? Or is that just the norm and usually no further questions are asked?

I don’t remember ever getting asked at Ho Chi Minh airport and if I was no further questions asked. If you say digital nomad that could cause trouble - at least in Thailand it does.

You should say tourism, I wouldn’t bet on digital nomad or anything work related unless you have a visa that allows you to work here. And being a digital nomad without a relevant visa is actually a legally gray line, if not illegal. There are people here who know this better than I probably, but I just wanted to reach out because I’ve heard of people getting denied entry to some countries over this, and some people getting fined. Hope this helps!

I guess I will just say "tourism" and if they ask why the last 3 months weren't enough and why I needed 3 more, I'll just say that their country is so vast and beautiful that I haven't been able to cover it yet hahaha 😅

But yeah, mostly they won't ask anything at all. Just preparing for the worst as too many wars happening around so you never know how protocols might change.

For example, I decided to skip the Moc Bai land port visa run as a visa agent said they're denying entry to Indians at land ports. Although that's when entering Cambodia not Vietnam.

I’d book an onward ticket with a service like onwardify to ensure them that you intend to go back if you’re doing a visa run. Also, be careful about tax regulations, you might accidentally become a tax resident in some countries if you stay that long.

Good luck! Viet Nam really is amazing. I don’t think your excuse will surprise them. ✨

no need to worry, just say tourism, they are happy to have you in their country, after all you adding something to their economy and they need money

Haha yeah - it ended up being the most seamless run ever. I usually don't worry about all this (have done this a few times previously), but hearing about the Cambodia land border issues made me question my optimism haha! While that was due to the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, I thought the Iran war could also have some effects. But gladly it didn't.

Yep a lot of tourists in the popular areas. Quite easy to find quieter spots tho
