Hello,
Planning to spend a week in Hungary early May. Mostly basing myself in Budapest and thinking of doing day trips. What you folks recommend? Are there any other places I should spend time in?

Vienna and Salzburg. not a Hungary obviously but close enough for one day trip.

Balaton for a beach day (hot springs too); Szentendre is nice old little town north of Bpest. Bukk national park for hiking/nature (far). Plenty to do in the city if it's your first time

Why would you ever bring cash anywhere? Use ATMs.

I would say it pretty cashless city. You might want to have some cash change for tips or just in case, but I didn’t have to use cash once during my 3 weeks stay.

within city: fisherman's bastion, royal palace, houses of parliament, ruin pubs, baths (gellert, szechenyi w/tourist party), market (top level with lots of real hungarian foods), hero's square and big park.. pm for more. it's my second home.
