anomad 2mo
my gf likes walking and going around, so yeah it could be good if there is some kind of places or road where you can go around walking and do things
anomad 2mo
i still don't know if these are like cities.. small cities or what else, i'm talking with AI at the moment
anomad 2mo
i just knew sharm as a "place" with resorts
anomad 2mo
and the only other thing i know about egypt is that there could be scammers (saw a couple videos) and that you must pay attention to drinkinhg water (but i already learned this in south east asia)
anomad 2mo
other than this i don't know anything lol. and i don't want to know too much actually so i'll see with my own eyes, but i need to know just enough so i can choose a place that won't be bad (avoiding a stupid decision, basically)๐Ÿ˜„
anomad 2mo
ideally, i imagine a 1br apartment with modern furniture, in a complex with pool and sunbeds and umbrella (for the pool) + connected to beach or sea, but it doesn't have to be like a full resort with all inclusiveetc
anomad 2mo
other than this, the main thing is how is the place, it must be safe enough and with things to do on getyourguide app, maybe the seawater should be clear you know, and there should be some shop or something for groceries (even better if online so I can look better and learn what they sell), and then some thing for going out? like.. some bar? i don't expect clubs etc like Thailand but what do we do in the afternoon or evening?
anomad 2mo
i cannot spend 50-100โ‚ฌ everyday for activities , or it will be more than the rent ๐Ÿ˜„
anomad 2mo
we will keep working on the laptop but yeah after that (we work until lunch time forom the early morning) basically it would be nice to have a beach like kata beach in phuket , thailand
anomad 2mo
just.. not only a place where I can ONLY stay at the pool or at the beach doing "nothing" if I don't pay for a tour on getyourguide.
there must be some kind of things to do walking and going around as social activities.
i think hurgharda from what egslava said before, maybe is more isolated and with less things to do?
anomad 2mo
i saw many people here talking about dahab.
anomad 2mo
any suggestion / help? dahab > sharm > el gouna > hugharda? (idk anything about el gouna but it should be close to hugharda but hugharda is smaller? )
anomad 2mo
please help, i'm planning this in like 2 days ๐Ÿคฃ
anomad 2mo
chatgpt is saying el gouna is the more walkable one and there are tuktuks and i can go almost everywhere in el gouna in 20 minutes without driving
anomad 2mo
so?
Dahab is small cozy village by the sea .. affordable prices and a lot of marine activities and simple lifestyle

Sharm is much more bigger.. itโ€™s a city and has a lot of accommodation options from studios to 5 stars hotels and resorts .. from my experience sharm is suitable for families more and people who prefer hotels and resorts.

El Gouna for me is the flagship. Much more prices but a very high quality of life. Everything there has a system. You will enjoy the experience and people there are extremely welcoming. Food is amazing and hospitality is super.

All of these are safe and people are very welcoming.

Dahab the best for me because of prices but not that good quality of services but I love it.

Sharm is a big town (for me) and I donโ€™t prefer the vibes there.

Elgouna is the best options if you donโ€™t mind to pay more and donโ€™t want to dive in the best place in the world (Dahab)
Start with Dahab .. end with Elgouna
anomad 2mo
ebbnqlyfknagda I started with looking dahab and el gouna etc and now after a couple days i'm planning a few months trip to stay mainly in those two areas but also go to cairo, giza, luxor, alexandria maybe.. to see egypt as a whole
anomad 2mo
What about cairo/giza? They're near one each other right? which area should one stay? for how many days to just visit it?
anomad 2mo
I'm looking into staying for 3-6 months, most of the time in dahab and el gouna , but then go for few weeks here and there to visit
anomad 2mo
am I daydreaming? I saw few stories about egypt being unlivable
anomad 2mo
from what I understood, any activity etc specially in tourist zones shold be done with a tour (i think like a well-reviewd getyourguide tour) or something like that
anomad 2mo
so that the tour guy keeps people away from asking money etc
anomad 2mo
ayumwktrgpqqbl I will 100% start with either dahab or el gouna and end with el gouna or dahab
anomad 2mo
But i'm trying to put between them, or alteranting.. also stay of a few weeks in each main part like cairo, luxor, alexandria, aswan. I don't know, i had long talks with chatgpt and I'm trying to get a sense
anomad 2mo
I always had a big big curiosity to see egypt (but maybe is the "tourist dream" kind of curiosity)
anomad 2mo
So.. I should need a place where to stay that you can live comfortably and then go 1-3 weeks in cairo, 1-3 weeks in alexandria, 1-3 weeks luxor.. something like that I think
anomad 2mo
With a reliable way to get decent groceries in each place and a good airbnb (kitchen, washing machine, air conditioning mainly, so we can keep "the routine" a bit, and then go to do activities every few days or in the end of the week or something)
anomad 2mo
I saw abuauf or something to get like almonds and other kinds of fruit, it seems decent and it seems it can deliver everywhere
anomad 2mo
i want to spend around 700 eur / month for the place, and 600 eur /month for the food (two people)
anomad 2mo
then obviously there will be the flights/transportation, the guided activities (only getyourguide probably or some way I can trust)
anomad 2mo
for the visa, I think I can do the multiple entry visa that should be 180 days of validity and maximum 90 days ? but then I can enter again maybe?
anomad 2mo
i'm trying to plan pretty accurately
anomad 2mo
cairo seems expensive on airbnb? more expensive than bangkok maybe?
anomad 2mo
in bangkok with 650 eur i had a 1 bedroom apartment in a big skyscraper with pool, gym, cinema, bar and lots of things
anomad 2mo
as of now, i saw a bit dahab, and el gouna, trying to get a sense of the sizes, of the population.. i went looking a bit cairo and giza on the map.. i still don't know anything about luxor, aswan, alexandria.. but some of them should be reachable through train or taxi?
anomad 2mo
my gf still doesn't know nothing.. i told her we will go somewhere but only this lol. i would like to experience egypt and then when i leave have a grasp of the people, the culture, the experience etc as we did in south east asia.. see the main things
anomad 2mo
this time i know a couple things more about being organized etc
anomad 2mo
but i don't want to end up in nightmares in egypt as some things I read๐Ÿ˜‚
anomad 2mo
the time spent in each place should be reasonable, and the most of it should be in dahab or el gouna.. because: the sea.. the better places.. the comfort
anomad 2mo
what do you think muhammad?
Iโ€™ll shoot in that i think anything outside of el gouna is unliveable if youโ€™re used to a nice lifestyle.

Dahab can be chill to visit, but any other city Iโ€™d stay away from for more than a few days.

Gouna is one of my favorite places on earth
anomad 1mo
define nice lifestyle
actual high food quality
clean streets
not being perceived as a walking atm at all times
easy and good transportation everywhere
All of these are super difficult to find anywhere outside of Gouna in egypt. Arguably some places in new cairo have this, but you donโ€™t get the same selection of people in your environment
First of all sorry for late reply

The dividing line between Cairo and Giza is the Nile River.
So we can consider it one big city
Every place in Egypt has its own vibes, weather, food, public transportations .. etc
General advice anywhere.. Don't go to a place without asking around and finding out if it's completely safe.. This doesn't mean that there is no safety in Egypt.. On the contrary, people are very welcoming to foreigners in many places, but there are places that are not always safe, whether for Egyptians themselves or foreigners.
Alexandria is my city.. I love it very much.. Great weather and amazing seafood.. Lots of historical and touristic places and diverse architecture.. It is much smaller than Cairo so you can visit many places in one day so 3 or 4 days is very suitable
Cairo and Giza are much more spacious and the options are 10 times more than Alexandria for example.. Many tourist and historical sites as well and many places to visit so 7 or 8 days are suitable and it is possible to have more if you do not have time to visit many places but it is preferable that you be with a tour guide especially in the tourist areas because there are some exploitative people who want to get money from tourists greedily
I have never visited Luxor before, but it contains two-thirds of the world's antiquities, so you can imagine how amazing this place is. The best time to visit is in the winter due to the high summer temperatures.
700 euro per month for is good enough in the most of these places but donโ€™t trust brokers .. air bnb is the best and in dahab you can rent the first days by air bnb and search there for another affordable places
600 euro is ok if youโ€™re eating daily from not fancy local restaurants.. you can eat koshry for 1 euro and you can eat pizza for 10 euros
anomad 1mo
Have you been to italy? How much difference would you say there is outside of el gouna?
anomad 1mo
thank you very much, i'm reading what you sent
I don't understand your question.
Yes I've been to Italy. Are you asking about the differences between gouna and italy?
anomad 1mo
About the difference in the place liveability
anomad 1mo
(i'm from italy)
anomad 1mo
also in italy things are not always clean etc, but I'm trying to understand how much
Gouna is way more clean than the average city in Italy, and europe for thats sake
anomad 1mo
also in italy in the main tourist areas we have italians and moroccoans trying to get tourist money etc (it is a bit like this anywhere), but I heard italians saying that egypt is chaotic too
It's basically ran by a private company (Orascom). The whole city is operated as a business
anomad 1mo
like switzerland?
This is not the case in Gouna. You need to have a valid reason to be allowed into the city. There are literal borders.
Cleaner than switzerland too i would argue. There are cleaners hired by the city to keep it clean every day
anomad 1mo
Ah okay, so it's kind of a separate area
yes, it's like a company owned city
anomad 1mo
I'll loke more into that thanks
leonardo 1mo
hey guys, any tip on how to reach dahab form sharm el sheik airport at night?
There are taxi drivers always present, but they are pricey

You can book transfer upfront for around 1300 EGP
leonardo 1mo
thanks ๐Ÿ™ how do I book?

Iโ€™m a bit concerned about the internet connection in Dahab. I have a few video calls to make during the day for work, and I need to ensure they go smoothly. How is the Wi-Fi generally, and is there good 4G phone coverage for a hostpot?

I saw that El Coworking space has a reliable internet connection, but I would still prefer to work from home.
WiFi is not really reliable most of the time, especially if you have 4G WiFi router.
Usually I use my phone as a hot spot, works well with etisalat network.

This year 5G was announced in Egypt, but it is mostly 4G in Dahab as far as I know
leonardo 1mo
well as long as the phone 4G is reliable, I don't mind using that. I'll get a Etisalat simcard then
leonardo 1mo
is it easy to get a simcard for a foreigner?
Yes, just bring your passport
Oh
Do you know about registering your phone in airport?
leonardo 1mo
you mean getting a simcard at the airport?
leonardo 1mo
btw do you think Etisalat is better than Vodafone? I'm reading on reddit that most use vodafone
No
You need to register your phone IMEI at airport, or it will be blocked after 90 days

https://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/3/1239/538141/Business/Tech/Explainer-How-Egypt-new-electronic-system-regulati.aspx#:~:text=Egypt%20has%20launched%20a%20new,to%20activate%20them%20in%20Egypt.
Not sure about that, have not used vodaphone here
leonardo 1mo
crazy! thanks for the heads up. I think I'll only spend 30-40 days in egypt so I guess I should be fine even without it
Well, yeah, but you phone will be blocked next time you come to Egypt
leonardo 1mo
oh okay, then I gotta do that. thanks!
Howโ€™s dahab in december? Is there an active community round that time of the year?
It depends which community are you talking about.
It's kinda cold during December-February, so here are less freedivers for example, but more windsurfers and kite surfers.
Also there kinda lots of turists during new year, but they are here just for a week or two.
Thanks for the reply! Just meant a general remote worker community
Oh, here are lots of people working remotely all year round, but everyone is doing their own thing, mostly some kind of sport.
leonardo 27d
if I want to learn to kite, would it make more sense to me to get an accomodation close to the lagoon? or is it better to stay in dahab and go there by transportation everyday?
Fellow travellers, have you spent time in Dahab, Egypt? Iโ€™m planning a trip during Christmas and New Year with my wife and my mom. Iโ€™d love to ask you some questions if youโ€™ve been thereโ€”would really appreciate 5 mins of your time.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ
Its not so comfortable here in December-January
Water is cold, wind is storg, and some nights are not really comfortable
Most of the cafes, shops and other points of interest are closer to LightHouse and Assala square.
If you are planning to do only kiting and stay mostly at home or hotel - Lagoon would be fine.

Either way you can get from Lagoon to Assala relativly fast and cheap by taxi or bicycle
