Can anyone recommend a good GaN charger? Ideally one that I can find in Bangkok with two or three usb-c outโ€™s and Thai/EU outlet..

I had the 120W Anker 737 (stopped working almost immediately) and a 65W Anker Nano II which just stopped working a month ago when I got to Bangkok. So Iโ€™m not getting anything from anker..
Wow. Did the quality drop that much. I still have a 8 year old Anker power bank. Itโ€™s not as powerful as it used to be but works fine.

Charges everything at max speed. Last charger you will need mines lasted about 6 months so fat

Looking for recs for travel pants (trousers if you prefer British English). Looking for lightweight, non wrinkly, fairly long lasting, able to use for hiking or going to a reasonably nice restaurant.

I currently have a pair of Arc'teryx that I'm worn through. They ticked all of the above boxes, but I'd prefer to replace them with a non-petroleum fabric.

45g laptop stand, might be of interest to some ultra light enthusiasts even though it isnโ€™t adjustable

Anyone here doing one bag? How heavy is your pack?
brendanb 1mo
All up it was 10kg at my peak but Iโ€™m upsizing to 30kg as my freediving equipment was too hard to fit in one bag
atticus 1mo
Oh wow where do you go for freediving?

Mine is around 30 to 32kg, but I am always trying to scale it down
A friend I personally know used this luggage for 6 years of medium travel.

Still looks good and very sturdy:

I'm late to the conversation but I've got the Aviator travel jeans in black and I'm on my 3rd pair now as my only pants, last about 2-3 years each time. I don't hike but they are good for everything in my opinion. Look good in jet black as casual or dressed up.

Light weight, good set of pockets, 97% percent cotton with enough stretch to be comfortable all the time.

guys, any recommendations on durable hiking pants that convert to shorts and look nice?

I have one pair but they are already close to the end of their lifetime
Maybe fjallraven.com I think they have one or two convert pant.
how is the quality of the brand? I haven't bought anything from them
Excellent! I don't know for their convert pants, but for their classic pant you can keep them all your life.

I was in the Philippines but this year Iโ€™m going back to Indo. Maybe Bali but probably Lombok depending on how crowded Canggu is

How do they go in tropical environments? Are they hotter than jeans?
omtare 25d
could anyone recommend a portable screen that works with Mac please, as light as possible. Already travelling with Kindle and Remarkable so am pretty weighed down.

iPad
omtare 25d
Thought that but would be annoying after paying for kindle and remarkable. Sunk cost fallacy I know
I always wear them in tropical climates without issues.

97% cotton and very comfortable
Wore them in Thailand, Colombia, Mexico and Paraguay now pretty much every day
I recommend the Quest 3 for big virtual screens
Under $500 maybe a little more with a custom headstrap to be more comfortable
I'm using mine without a custom headstrap for easy packing and a 3d printed adapter

Hey community
Iโ€˜m looking for a mid-price display. Main daily task will be coding. Any recommendations?

I used to have a curved Dell UltraSharp before, but not sure whatโ€˜s good today.

What I surely would want is to be able to charge my MacBook via USB-C.
brendanb 24d
My gf has it. I think itโ€™s not worth it for the cost unless you like drawing on it.
Seriously Meta Quest 3 (Oculus) VR great for coding and big screens
It's surreal but it's small compact, you can bring 3-5 virtual displays with you in a small footprint
Not too mention everything else you can do with it
kaskuk 24d
Have one too and itโ€™s such a waste of money. Would recommend mobile screen all day long as extra screen.
kaskuk 24d
How many hours can you use it daily?
4-5 hours straight for me is the max but if I take a break I can go right back in for a few hours.

If you get it comfy it's pretty light and easy to wear longer.
I remove the facial interface
elmac10 24d
that actually looks kind of nice
riccardog 23d
Whatโ€™s the difference with the interface removed ?
With the interface removed it doesn't press on your face only on your forehead and it makes it much easier for me to use longer term.

I sold my Quest Pro to someone who's used to the Quest 2 and they immediately said wow this is so comfortable.

Basically removing the facial interface gives you similar confort if you replace it with a similar headstrap or adapter
Here's a video to show the difference https://youtu.be/LFEPWLb0N-o?si=iMBTUwKPHwtao-9q

Arzopa has 14โ€ portable monitors that weigh around 700g. Can find them on Amazon for like $150
andrew9 17d
Iโ€™m at 9.5kg in a near full 23L bag
I am looking to get a compact bag for my Sony a6700 and 2 sigma lenses. Is peak design 3l a good option or a bellroy venture 6l would be better?
Also, what 16 inch 4 screen should I get for my travel that works well with MacBook Pro?
reffan 17d
An iPad? Get all of those devices in one and use it as a display with Sidecar?
Needs:
A reliable non-VoIP phone service which is available globally
Must: Receiving SMS
Must: Not closed when I don't visit the country

Current Device :
Iphone 15 pro ( 2 Esim activation available, 8 Esim can be stored )

Status:
US and TR are the only countries I visit consistently
Using Google Voice
It is blacklisted at some places
It gets phone calls and voicemails but it is VoIP
It does not receive SMS

Considerations:
Getting a non VoIP dedicated phone line
Contract or pay on the go options
US has problems like Switzerland banks don't accept it
Other countries might have other problems
Any help would be appreciated ๐Ÿ™

Airalo gives you an Austrian phone number, and I used it for data in the US. https://www.airalo.com/global-esim/discover-365days-20gb is valid for a year, and cheaper than I remember (probably due to competition from Truely). A good site comparing eSIMs is https://esimdb.com, though is seems heavily biased towards a few sellers - doesn't list Truely despite it being:
- the ONLY provider with unlimited expiration for something like 15% more
- plans starting at 1GB
- no KYC

You can filter for voice+SMS by clicking "Hide data only".

No KYC filter but it's kess buggy than https://esims.io/, which is much faster than https://esimscompare.com/, which is still better than https://simbud.com/
allgo 6d
I never visited Austria and Airalo never closed my account.

Hushed is VoIP but is accepted by some places that don't accept Google Voice.

I've heard some people use RingCentral, even though it's probably overkill for your use case
Airalo phone is always accepted?
And what happens to that number after a year?
allgo 6d
You renew it. I haven't tried using Airalo as 2FA because Google Voice and Hushed has been accepted by the hapless institutions that insisted on SMS-based insecure 2FA
allgo 6d
I'd suggest asking on nomadgate.com - an actual FORUM for nomads, with information indexed by search engines, and people putting together guides & stuff, as opposed to tons of knowledge sunk into Telegram where no LLM will ever find it while you Deep research

I have an esim installed on a phone (Pixel). If I wipe my account/data from that phone and create a new user for the phone will they still be able to use the installed esim? I don't need to transfer the esim, I just want it to work for the new account I'm putting on there...

Sounds like a ChatGPT question
This is a nice gear hack, for anyone in Thailand, Philippines etc. The San Francisco based company Aer makes very well designed travel backpacks, shoulder bags etc, in all sizes. They regularly land at the top of these โ€œBest Travel Bagโ€ reviews on YT. In the US they are a premium brand, with their flagship backpacks costing around $250 without tax.
However, on Lazada, they are being sold at very high discounts, around 120$ for the same model. Might be worth checking out.
I saw some reddit post or youtube video about comparison between copies and original aer backpacks, there's a high chance it's not original
If they are fake, they are the best fakes Iโ€™ve ever seen, and still absolutely worth the money.
I assume they are made in the same factory, maybe in the after hours ;)
simjost 4d
Anybody tried the LTT backpacks? They are said to fit under the front seat perfectly, I just had my doubts.
wugge 4d
Dont they have insane shipping fees to europe? Am also searching for a nice airplane friendly backpack to use for ma daily commute
tonyd 4d
Minaal bags are a great option - lighweight and well thought out. Daily and Carry-on are what I use.
simjost 3d
Sometimes they have promotions with free shipping. And they refund taxes if you had to pay more on import in duty fees.
