Apple Store, Yodobashi Camera and BIC Camera websites mention no restocking dates, but I imagine the phones get to the stores from time to time

Why would you like your iPhone to have constant camera shutter sound?

That’s a common misconception: the iPhone will have the shutter sound in Japan only, but setting a non-Japan region and physically moving out of country disables it.

But even this was the case, I wouldn’t care at all, because I barely take 30-40 pictures per year.

I’d recommend ordering online on the official Apple Store. You can use any convenience store as a pickup point or ask a local friend to receive it for you.

I did that previously when Apple AirPods were difficult to get in the physical stores. Needed to wait 6 weeks, but eventually I got them.

Thank you! That was my initial plan as well, but it’s impossible to use in-store pickup for the new iPhone in Apple Store Japan as of now. It’s not just sold out, but “restock date is unknown”. Hence my questions about smarter ways of getting it

Yes and they very reliable - I went with Ninja WiFi from the airport. Worked everywhere from Nikko to Hiroshima without an issue.

I used Ubigi esim in Japan and it’s great. You can pre configure it to activate automatically on arrival instead of fiddling with setting it up at the airport WiFi

Ill be there for a month, and Im considering units in Itabashi, Meguro, and Saitama.

As of earlier this year my picks were:

Hmlet for nicer places (and cheaper the longer you stay).

Sakura House for older cheap places (lots of share houses but also studios).

Are the share houses pleasant to live in? They seem so much cheaper than renting apartments

Can’t compare from personal experience. I don’t think of capsules as viable living space. Share houses depend on how much personal space you need and/or socializing you can stand.

Read some horror stories about Sakura House.

In addition to hmlet, you can check weave living and sumyca.

I find their added fees make them all overpriced for short stays, though.
