Howโ€™s the scene in Hong Kong these days?

Any offbeat areas to stay and restaurant/speakeasy recommendations

Curious if I need Chinese apps or English will do for HK
deborah 3mo
in HK, really depends on which area you visit - most of the time you can survive using English, even small shop oweners speak a little or understand you easily.
APP wise, I think English are good, Google map works well, or you want specific kinda APP?
Octupus card for transportaion and small amount payment is great, Alipay/credit card payment is common
dont see Chinese Apps a must, unless you wish to cross the border to ShenZhen, that's a whole new system.
deborah 3mo
hope this helps, you can name specific needs on APPS

see if they are necessary

I usually stay in the TST area on Kowloon side. Get an Octopus card for payments. Youโ€™ll be fine with English, in most places. For transport use MTR.
The Aubrey
or Cooshti is great
Trilogy
DM me if u want to be added to the whatsapp group where we share some events in HK / SG are happening
Hey guys, what areas do you recommend me to stay to spend 3 days in Hong Kong? Something I should avoid?
gasull 2mo
I recommend Sheung Wan
Okay perfect. Why exactly?
milton 2mo
Depends what youโ€™re after tbh.

First time I stayed in Central (Dash on Hollywood Road). Super handy for working - communal kitchen, desk space, and laundry, which helped a lot.

Now after 8+ visits in a year I usually stay in TST at Marco Polo. Better value, bigger rooms, loads of food around, easy MTR/ferries, and the harbour view is great (if you want to spend a little extra)

Has anyone recently crossed the land border between HKG and SZ? Iโ€˜ve attempted in 2023 and failed โ€ฆ would like to give it another try on my next trip.
gasull 2mo
Many cafes. One of the areas with single people and young families.
7rulnik 2mo
well, if you have plan to go full time sightseeing for these 3 days you probably will see everything important in city area

First time I stayed at Harbour Grand Hong Kong at Fortress Hill. There is a nice ferry from Norh point to Hung hom.
Second time I stayed in Harbour Plaza Metropolis near Hung Hom.
These areas a little further from the tourist spots. So less crowded and cheaper. But still not that far

I defently recommend to visit north part of city (Wong Tai Sin) and kowloon peak

Also Hong Kong has amazing coctail bars scene. Bar Leone is top 1 in the world right now.
pravin 2mo
Why did you fail? Just curious what happened
pravin 2mo
Thanks mate!

Just saw the peak is also around something called suicide cliff, must have some mad stories I assume
7rulnik 2mo
Yeah, and south route is gnarly haha
I recommend you east side. And if you go on sunset it's better to have flashlight with you
Hey guys, Iโ€™ll arrive in Hong Kong in one day and will stay for 3 days. Anyone around these days to have a coffee/beer?
Also, please let me know if any meetup is organized ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ
marlene 2mo
i first went to the wrong border crossing, which took about 2-3 hrs to get back into hongkong and then finally arrived at the right border crossing where they held me up for easily another hour before telling me that the office where i would get my visa on arrival is just around the corned, right over there, oh it's closing in three minutes, oh it's closed, too bad for you, come again tomorrow lol ... incredibly frustrating experience to say the least.
khizrs 2mo
I haven't done it for a couple of years but I have done it countless times in the past.

Just go here and cross

Anyone know of a place in HK where I can get electronics components (LEDs, transducers, cases, etc.) and get advice from some experts on part selection based on what I want to build? Kinda like a concierge im imagining something like this exists.
gasull 1mo
Probably here, but Shenzhen is better.

What's up people? I'm considering doing a bit of nomad life in HK later in the year, like September or October. How are things there right now?
gasull 15h
September is typhoon season. November is perfect.
