Italian here. I haven’t been in a while but in Sicily I don’t think you’d find expat hubs as such. Catania might be a bit more active than average in that area, but I’d recommendeelsewhere (not Italy) for first nomading 😅

Well, in Palermo there are some. And speaking about the south, also in Matera.

If you want to find big hubs, in general, it's better to avoid big expensive countries, with too many beautiful places. Inevitably there are going to be less nomads, and the few of them are sparse.

Fair point. I’m in Italy right now though and thought about staying here for a month or two. So trying to find the right spots.

Try to focus more on logistics, otherwise you risk spending a lot of time moving around, especially if you don't plan to get a car or a moto.
Unless you are rich I would recommend a place like Forlì, central and well connected but less famous and expensive than Bologna, not on the beach but not even that far.
More central maybe Perugia, Foligno or Ancona. In the South I wouldn't know what to suggest apart from Matera and the obvious other big cities. There are plenty of amazing little towns (Sapri, Scario, Maratea), but on the coast it's going to be expensive.

As somone who is now in Sicily, its tricky. We used flatio to get a 3 month rental then in person found an Italian speaking real estate guy who knew everyone. This way you don't get lost or fucked over. Most local don't use Airbnb etc cause you have to pay taxes 😂 and yeah palermo has a small but growing similarly catania is more a business hub for Italy in general otherwise i find i meet retirees all over the island very spread out who all say ah yeag there isva young guy or young womem they do remote working
