See you soon!
Join us for coworking on Tuesdays or Thursdays I'll post the event again soon but we meet every week and there are other events for meetups for drinks, language exchange, etc
yes, i can!
initial setups for these countries can be like 3k, 10k for a BVI is VERY overpriced friend
remember PY companies are NOT exempt on taxes on foreign sourced incomes! the territorial principle applies to individuals only
that + having to keep an accountant + dividend distributions having withholding taxes makes a classic caribbean setup much more attractive IMOโ€ฆ
glad to help as it seems the quote you got for caribbean was quite high
Could you provide a source for that information? From what I have read, companies are also exempt for foreign income
Can you recommend a company that charges around that price?
Where have you read that?

See EY for instance:
https://www.ey.com/content/dam/ey-unified-site/ey-com/en-gl/technical/tax-guides/documents/en-gl-wctg-10-2024.pdf.pdf#page=1428
Yes, mine :p glad to help
Thanks for sharing. I have read further on the matter and it seems foreign income is indeed exempt. However, many foreign income are considered local income, therefore, for the type of structure I am looking for, I would indeed pay taxes using a PY company. So this option isn't good for me. Once again thanks for sending me this info, it saved me a lot of unecessary work. Now I will explore further the option you mention of BVI and if it makes sense to me, I will get in touch with you

They say there's hundreds of people applying for residency daily
We do see a lot of people passing through to get their residency

I'm in the naturalization process now, that's the next step

I got my residency yesterday. Paraguay is an amazing spot, and I'm happy more people are discovering it, but on the other hand, I worry that the extranjeros will overstay their welcome. I've noticed more and more anti-gringo sentiment in online discussion from locals. I worry extranjeros will be blamed for gentrification. Also I think there is talk of raising taxes and/or taxing foreign income? Oh well, it's a nice spot for now.
replay 1mo
I'm curious, where do you see anti-gringo discussions online?
falconb0 1mo
So like in the main WA groups there have been some pretty nasty threads about this type of thing.

Also... I don't know, maybe I'm just imagining things, but like, my first time I was in Asuncion was in 2023, and I was just absolutely blown away by how friendly the locals were and how well they treated me.

In 2025 it's still amazing but it feels rather different, I can't quite explain it. But like to give you an example, in 2023, with extremely limited Spanish, every time I got in an Uber, the Uber driver couldn't stop talking to me. Wanted to know everything about where I was from and all of that. This year, with much better Spanish, I don't get that much anymore. Maybe just because there are more foreigners and it's less novel. And maybe me being able to speak an intelligible sentence in Spanish is less novel and less interesting hahaa. But still just something feels different.
replay 1mo
Ic, personally I'm quite glad if not everyone asks me about my life story, in other countries I got tired of that before coming here.
Hosting coworking again this Tuesday for anyone who wants to join here in Asuncion

Appreciate a few RSVPs to get this live!

We usually have 10-15+ join us for these events but not all from Nomadlist

https://nomads.com/meetups#436e85b52fe11602b35b0d20c8e721bb
Our coworking sessions include local remote workers as well as digital nomads and immigrants to Paraguay (a.k.a expats)
I just looked at the Asuncion page for Nomads and wondered how they best coffee places are suggested ๐Ÿ˜‚

I also wonder if the cashless info needs to be updated, I do think it's good to carry a little cash but I mostly operate cashless outside of PedidosYa for delivery where my cards don't work.

Anyone else have feedback on the info for Asuncion?

https://nomads.com/asuncion
Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf being the best coffee place is surprising to me and I don't even drink coffee lol
Hey guys, heading back to LatAm later this year. Asunciรณn seems to be popping off looking at this group.

Would you say itโ€™s worth staying for a month? Is there enough to see and do in Asunciรณn and Paraguay as a whole?
See you soon :D

I think whether it's worth it is really up to your interests and goals probably, but there's also access to other countries nearby as well โ€” I've been here for over a year now, usually we move around more but it's been a good place to be and there's a growing community here with people passing through all the time.

My wife and I have found it to be a chill place to live, good prices, good food, good people โ€” some people say it's boring or don't like that there's not mountains or beaches. I understand that too but other people just work to create what they want to see here while they are here โ€” people are hosting meetups, arranging sports, hackathons and business ideas etc.
Awesome, thanks for your feedback & hopefully see you soon ๐Ÿซก
falconb0 29d
My experience is that there isn't a whole lot of adventure packed sightseeing and stuff if that's your thing. You can visit the main historical spots in the city center in a few hours. Maybe there are a few more days of sights in Asuncion if you venture outside the center.

Despite this, Asuncion is definitely one of my favorite spots. Very friendly locals, and also, a vibrant expat community with regular meetups.

Asuncion is very affordable, and very safe in the better neighborhoods (the center is rather sketchy but safe compared to el centro in most other Latin American capital cities).

I find that Asuncion is a great spot to be productive and also to see friends I've known since my first time there.

Since you mention other cities... check out Ciudad del Este. Right on the border with Foz in Brazil and Puerto Iguazu in Argentina, you could stay there for a while and regularly hop around to different countries and do all sorts of sightseeing. Although there's no expat scene that I know of in CDE.
Yeah that would be the goal anyways, which is to focus on my business and then just do some exploring on the weekends, so not minding if itโ€™s a little calmer :)

Thanks Falcon!
Buenos Dias amigos! I just thought I'd introduce myself here in the chat seeming I'm here for the next (almost) 2 weeks in Asuncion.

Chris, web developer and content creator, here in Paraguay to grab the tax residency and catch up with friends.

Looking forward to connecting with the community here.

Also, any recommendations for good work cafes around here?
Welcome ๐Ÿ‘‹

What area of the city are you in?

On Tuesdays afternoons, I host a coworking meetup at West Coffee in a little plaza called Paseo Miraflores

Happy to share some other cafes around the city our group likes, I'm not sure what's open today for sure with the holidays
Awesome. Please send me details. Iโ€™d love to join
Iโ€™m in the Villa Mora area
There's a cafe in that area called La Gallette that might be a good fit for you, I like to work from their Barrio Jara location but I haven't worked at the Villa Morra one yet myself.

They have a nice avocado toast combo breakfast option with a pot of tea and juice.. that's my go to.

Some other friends like the Hub Hotel Juan Valdez

I'll send you a link to the coworking event in a minute I need to post the one for this week on Nomads

There's one called LOffice people talk about but I've never been, I usually hit the cafes
Ok thanks. Iโ€™ll check it out

Hey a quick one. I am coming from Colombia to Paraguay. I was wondering if Paraguay asked for the yellow fever vaccine? Did anyone get checked at the airport in Colombia or Paraguay before?
viewdean 18d
Or from any Latam country or has any experience with this ?
alegrammi 17d
Hola people!
Hope you are doing great over there!
It's Ale here, currently in Japan but slowly planning our transfer to the other side of the world with my wife. We plan to come to Paraguay before the end of the year to fix a few things for our residency and meet the local nomad community.
I have a few questions if you can help:
- Do you have any suggested route for a cheaper flight connection from Asia to Latam (and thus Paraguay)? I'm checking and seems the only way is to fly into LA and then go south...
- Did anyone here go through the process of residency program? Any clear problems to be aware of? I'm thinking to work with Paraguay Pathways.
- Anyone planning to have NYEve in Paraguay? Is it worth it?

Thanks!
glyphx 17d
I used Paraguay Pathways and would recommend them. I've also worked with Sweet Home Paraguay and will probably continue using them for any future needs.
replay 17d
In theory you are required to have the Yellow fever vaccine when entering Paraguay.
However, it's very unlikely that they'll actually check it when you immigrate (no guarantees). I have entered Paraguay at least 20 times over the past 10 years via various different borders, many times I came from other South American countries, not even once did they ask me for the yellow fever certificate.
viewdean 17d
Ok thanks for that reply! It helps ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป
Based on recent reports in one of the FB groups they recommend going through Panama and not Brazil for connections because it's really up to the people and airlines you are dealing with.

Technically you wouldn't need it for a connecting flight but some people have been stopped.
qteejsxqni Common theme is that you can try and a lot of people with connecting flights etc don't need it but sometimes they are asked and it can be problematic.

It seems Brazil is one of the main places people are asked for it.
Peru seems to be another common one

It seems some people mentioned that some rules changed in February this year that might make it more likely to get asked coming in from some places where yellow fever is an issue
Here's a thorough message from one person in the fb group

"Check the airlines . Each varies in flexibility and strictness . However the 10 day rule applies strictly . Donโ€™t exceed it make sure you arrive in Paraguay with the certificate and 10 days timeframe dates on the paper . Again immigration usually doesnโ€™t care but the airline can be finicky .

As of last year if you fly through the following countries, the airline might block you from embarking if no certificate : the rules are always changing so itโ€™s a tricky one . Just go through Panama if possible

Bolivia (Beni and Santa Cruz)
โ€ข Brazil (Parรก, Tocantins, Minas Gerais, Sรฃo Paulo, Paranรก, Rรญo Grande do Sul, Amazonas)
โ€ข Colombia (Villagarzรณn, Orito, Guamuez Valley)
โ€ข Peru (Junรญn, Ucayali, Ayacucho, San Martรญn, Madre de Dios)
โ€ข Venezuela"
Hope that helps
sljtmdsguhc welcome to you and your wife ๐Ÿ™Œ

There are quite a few people from Japan here or coming, it may be helpful to tap into their experiences with flying here as general advice from Asia is good. You can always try Google Flights and Skyscanner which are helpful with exploring routes as well
I was told I needed the Yellow Fever Vaccine certificate by the airline (coming from Brazil) but they didn't ask at the border
xyedtalfrcmo did you have to show it to the airline? That's where I think a lot of people get stuck with the airline but not sure
Nup. No one asked for it
falconb0 17d
I have been personally asked for the vaccine card multiple times. I'm a US passport holder, but I've frequently come to Paraguay from either Peru or Bolivia. I don't think I've been asked if I was coming from the US.

I know someone who is an Ecuadorian passport holder who had a 1 hour layover in Peru and was asked for the vaccine card, and was almost denied entry into Paraguay. She had a vaccine but the certificate was new, newer than 14 days or however long you have to wait. The airline ended up rerouting her to Buenos Aires and then she was let in.

Also, my girlfriend is Bolivian and we were both asked when we flew from Bolivia to Paraguay a few months ago.
replay 17d
Interesting, I must have been really lucky until now, most of the time when I entered I didn't even have my vaccine certificate with me. I'll try to bring it with me from now on ๐Ÿค”
Maybe it helped me that I usually immigrated using a Paraguayan cedula instead of a foreign passport, but that's just a guess
I heard that's exactly the case, that you don't need a vaccine certificate if you're a Paraguayan resident
falconb0 16d
Yeah to clarify... every time I've entered Paraguay, I was not a Paraguayan resident. I just finally got my residency a few weeks ago.
