Hey, a few questions...

What would be the recommended neighborhood in San Jose? Usually I stay in the fanciest neighborhood of whatever city I go to, although since Costa Rica is sort of expensive, I'm open to other options.
What would be a good beach town to spend a few days in near San Jose?
The ride from San Jose -> beach is a bit far... will I have any trouble finding an Uber? Also, is UberXL a thing and reliable in Costa Rica?

Uber lives in a legal gray area, where it is not legal but it is taxed and therefore legal-ish. They don't like driving close to the airport but otherwise you can get them anywhere in popular places

However if you take an Uber to a remote area you are unlikely to find one to take you back.

Jaco is a nice Beach Town

Awesome, thank you! I'm fine with taxis. Big thing is that I will need a big taxi (for 6 people) from the San Jose airport to Jaco. But I'm guessing it will be doable if we're willing to pay the the price haahaha. Even if we have to split up into 2 taxis.

CR has a lot of shuttle-like services as well. First, check on Rome2Rio for reputable private shuttles. You should be able to find something. Second-best way to find a shuttle service is through a local contact. Ask the hotel, they will have a reputable driver for you to take you (the entire group) longer distances.

I used pink bus to go from San Jose to La Fortuna, and they probably have a route to Jaco

I have been in san jose. I rent nice apartemenr thru airbnb next to stadium. I went to local shop for daily products. Whwn i get off local gringo try to steal my bag full of goods. After that inspot whiole he steal a flip flops on the street. Also when i have been in san jose, there was strong earthquake so because security reason i do not recommend to stay there as a difi nomad
