Ah, sometimes it rains crazily! For the last 3 years I had a few weeks when every day was pouring and raincoat didn't have enough time to dry. Mostly in Vietnam, though.

But I'd agree, most of the time "rainy season" is a bit overstated.
Okay, maybe we've just been lucky so far. Thanks for the heads-up. ๐Ÿ˜„
farseb 1mo
Anybody here could recommend me a decent budget hotel nearby Phrom Pong?
Thanks guys! Canโ€™t trust the forecast it says raining every day๐Ÿ˜‚
Yeah, at least Apple's forecast is pretty useless. ๐Ÿ˜„
tonyd 1mo
Donโ€™t look at the day in any of them. Pull up the hourly and scan a few days to see what itโ€™s generally like. Gives you a much better idea.

80% chance for the day could me 1mm at 2am :)
Hey guys, will do Bangkok September - November. Want to stay in an area and building where itโ€™s easy to meet other entrepreneurs (if there even is such a thing). Any recommendations?
Well apparently True Digital Park and the "Whizdom" buildings next to it exist solely for this purpose or type of community. Was there once, can confirm, a lot of busy people working in the coworking space there.
Or, the metered taxi driver will deliberately choose a poor/longer route to rack up the charge
khizrs 1mo
Thatโ€™s all logged on the grab app
Does Grab punish such drivers? It happened to me when I hailed a taxi from the road without Grab.
khizrs 1mo
I donโ€™t know as Iโ€™ve never had this problem
Anyone around Pattaya these days?

Just seen ur msg. Pm me.
Hey everyone, while waiting for my DTV (issuing in Bucharest, as Iโ€™m a Bulgarian resident) Iโ€™m actually thinking to enter thailand on tourist visa and then re-enter once the visa arrives. Has anyone done that? Are there any complications I should expect?
Iโ€™d appreciate any help ๐Ÿ™

Edit: read some more in the DTV fb group and saw itโ€™s a bad idea. Leaving it here in case someone needs it
egorkolds 29d
I did it, my dtv got issued the next day I arrived, then after 3 months I did a border run paying extra for dtv. There was a little confusion on the border, but nothing problematic.
Why did you have to pay extra? So far, we entered twice with the DTV and didn't have to pay anything extra.
egorkolds 29d
Because I was using the border run service and they charge extra for DTV.
fruntxas 29d
For the ones that are usually there.....
How much rain can you expect around August/September across the country? Maybe comparing Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.
Like...rain days of the month | duration per day | etc
Ah, I see.
danamo 29d
Hi Eli. Iโ€™m planning to do that. Can you expand as to why itโ€™s a bad idea?
I've just searched in the "destination thailand visa" on FB and some people mentioned that you should be outside of thailand while applying.
although it's not very likely, the embassy could check if you're actually in thailand while applying and then deny you from getting the visa.
I decided to wait a bit more outside of thailand and not risk the application, but do as you wish
You have to be outside of Thailand, yes. They check the visa stamps in your passport to validate.

Thanks for the info

Anyone train BJJ in Chaing mai got any gym recommendations?
Anyone here has worked with a personal trainer in koh phangang/samui or Tao?
Looking for calisthenics and general fitness personal training
Hi guys, I am new to the group here, I am currently located in Phuket, is there any gatherings or events around the area, or is everyone located in Bangkok or Chiangmai?
gk 24d
Gato ๐Ÿ™‚ Bank's a good instructor. I drop in most times I go to Chiang Mai.
gk 24d
Also worth noting I'm away from Lanta mid-July until mid-August so open mats only, unless I manage to get another BB to cover.
naz 23d
I go to Pure Grappling next to the Airport. Super chill gym and very few spazes
Where do you usually find meetups in Bangkok?

Iโ€™m hosting a couple this weekend here and on Nomeo, but it seems like not many people are active ๐Ÿ‘€
meetup.com
gk 22d
Yeah, Ryan's a good coach too. I prefer Gato because it helps me with thai vocab for teaching bjj.
Not that I need it; Had close to zero success tempting Thais to come learn ๐Ÿ˜‚
hi friends, anyone in BKK? just flew in 2 days ago
looking for hotel, gym, hotel, food recommendations ๐Ÿ™‚
Anyone did the 90 day report in BKK recently - at the new immigration office ?
How long does it take?
( i have DTV)
rysward 21d
Hi I am in BKK for the weekend.
rysward 21d
Does anyone recoommend a cafe to cowork from
rysward 21d
or a coworking space where you can rent a 2nd screen
Depends on where you are and how far you wanna ride. Default answer for coworking space is True Digital Park.
eliebo 20d
If you take an appointment and there are not a lot of people, around 30 minutes
gk 20d
Why do people do 90 day reports in person?
I've always filed online ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
tonyd 20d
First one on new entry stamp has to be done in person. After that can be online.
gk 20d
Yeah. I've read that. It's never happened to me though ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Sometimes they'll call me if I resubmit it twice, but then I just explain and they approve it ๐Ÿ™‚
gk 20d
I've literally never gone to immigration for this. Always do it online.
gk 20d
I guess I've applied on a new entry stamp about 20 times or so. I could count. I don't normally leave again within 3 months, and I don't normally stay for 6 months, so nearly all my applications are on new entry stamps.
dcurr 20d
where do you do it online?
gk 20d
TM47 site. https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login
gk 20d
I recently learnt you actually don't need to do TM30 if you're returning to your own home.
I'd kept filing it every time a hotel would register me somewhere else. They called to tell me I don't have to do that.
dcurr 20d
thank you.
tonyd 19d
What visa do you have?
gk 19d
Elite
tonyd 18d
That could be why. DTV and others have needed each new entry to do in person so far.
Oh thank you for this Ellie!
- i didnโ€™t know its possible to have an appointment
gk 18d
So this is when I reapply twice more, until they call me ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ But Iโ€™m not too worried about pissing them off, because I have a greaseable contact in the office if I need it.
gk 18d
7th May was the last time I did this. Only had to reapply once.
Hey, I want to get some medical stuff sorted when Iโ€˜m in Bangkok (various things such as MRI, collagen injection, general health checkups etc).

Is there a hospital that offers all?
I think many do
I like Samitivej hospital, or Bangkok Hospital for all the medical checkups while im in Bkk.
jivings 16d
I just did a health checkup at Samitivej, it was fine. Bumrungrad is nicer but their prices have gone way up
elpol 15d
Thereโ€™s no point in Bumrungrad, only to say youโ€™ve been there. They are money grabbers, itโ€™s outrageous. In any other country they would be sued to death.
fiiv 15d
BNH Hospital is also decent. A smaller one for sure but has lots of offerings and if youโ€™re already in or around Silom or Sathorn itโ€™s easy to get to
jannik 15d
Hey guys, I plan to spend September until January in Ko Phangan โ€” anyone got experiences regarding the weather and dengue situation in that specific timeframe?
Anyone selling euros or usd in cash in Phangan / bangkok?
A friend needs help, dm me if you want to swap for bank transfer / THB Cash ๐Ÿ™
November is usually very rainy
fruntxas 14d
I might be around Koh Samui late August and was wondering the same thing
mydinrjl emlwjmat Oct - Dec are very rainy in general in koh phangan. Most ppl leave and are coming back around mid dec when high season starts
fruntxas 14d
Yeah I may switch to Danang I think.
Don't want to go back to Bali
Chiang mai is a good option at these times
fruntxas 14d
Really?
fruntxas 14d
Thought it would be terrible
jannik 14d
If anyoneโ€™s staying Iโ€™d be happy to meet up :)
tonyd 14d
The rain then does bring out the little dengue carrying mosquitos. So best to use spray etc.

Qdenga vaccine is an option and available in Thailand.
Also meetings in Pattaya, write anytime :)
Looking to work with AU companies remotely while living in SEA โ€” anyone doing this?
hi guys just in chaing mai, just had a question with the local street food pmt options, they use a qr code... does wise work with those?
Nope its a thai payment system from a local bank account.
ahhh annoying
thx for the info though ๐Ÿ™
danamo 11d
Check out Moreta Pay (iOS app) if you can. I was able to transfer money over from wise to Moreta and you should be able to pay via qr code with it if the qr code is for a business.
danamo 11d
But note that I have not been able to test it yet as Iโ€™m not in Thailand at the moment.
cheers will check it out
moreta is only business qr code, but majority of Thai locals use personal QR code. So moreta is kind of limited in its usage. Same for TAGTHAi
danamo 10d
Indeed. They have it on their roadmap to enable personal accounts too, and I have heard that Thai law is getting updated to โ€œpushโ€ the business classification on accounts with high number of transactions, but you probably are not going to be able to use it for street food payments for now.
danamo 10d
Im not associated with Moreta btw, just trying to find a digital payment solution myself. If you have better alternatives please do tell
Negative, the best solution is open a Thai bank, but challenging for foreigners with DTV visa, unless you have Elite visa.
danamo 10d
Yeah. Thatโ€™s where Iโ€™m at. Thanks for confirming :)
Hello everyone anyone in Hua Hin ?
Hey there, anyone planning to travel in Thailand in December January February time please hook me up. Thereโ€™s a couple of us who might be heading over there and itโ€™d be great to sync up with other people who are traveling as nomads to maybe make some plans
Hey Rooster, whatโ€™s up? Weโ€™re making some plans letโ€™s talk in PM if you want. Weโ€™re thinking of going to this city to check out the cost of living and see whatโ€™s most comfortable for us.
brianx 8d
Anyone got any month to month rental spots recs in Chiang Mai ? Ideally above the square area
I wanna spend a month or so in Bangkok with my wife and a 3-year-old. Does it make sense to rent a car (to travel with my kid in a safe way)? Is parking remotely available?
danamo 3d
Depending on where you are staying and where you are going it goes from nightmarish to ok IMO
oskars 3d
Some streets are very jammy. Maybe you can use public transport at first and check taxi on Grab? If you are coming from Europe or US you can be surprised by local prices
Thanks. I'm looking at staying in the Sukhumvit / Phrom Phong area. It's not the prices I'm concerned about, it's the safety of my kid. If I rent a car, I can use an actual child seat in it.
ccooper 3d
Driving down sukhumvit and the sois is basically awful, it might be more practical if you stay further down one, tho a lot will depend on where you're going
Hi everyone! I'm at the moment in Chiang Mai and was considering to move south for august to avoid daily rain. I stumbled upon ko samui, phangan and tao because they would easy to reach by flight from CNX. Does anyone have recommendations on which island is better for focused work, traditional basic thai cuisine and good enough beaches to swim? also areas to avoid the parties/touristic vibes. I was leaning towards Phangan but I'm reading such bad things about the island (overdeveloped, weird hippie, extremely westernized)
Hello, anyone in Phuket?
Going to be in Bangkok from Aug 5-12 if anyone wants to meet up!
rysward 2d
xiqilvqttbjsxpkpuc Koh Tao is nice. Less party than Koh Phangan etc. Nice places to work from.
