Hello everyone! In February I'm coming to Thailand to combine traveling with some remote working. I'm planning to spend ~2 weeks in Chiang Mai province 🥾 (hiking & sightseeing) and ~3 weeks on an island, maybe Koh Tao 🤿 (diving). I'm looking for calm, remote places (as far as good Internet connection allows) where I can settle down and get some chill vibes (no party, no crazy traffic, etc.) Do you have any specific towns / disctricts / accommodations to recommend? Any tips welcome!

It's peak season and all the top ones are probably booked - also as there is the Nomad Summit taking place next week and the week after. But try Socialer, Alt_Pingriver or Alt_ChiangMai.

Just get yourself a local AIS eSIM or physical sim card - ideally in a shop in the city, not at the airport. Cheap, fast, reliable everywhere.

It depends what do you want

If you want peaceful place with beach - Haad Yao and around, but it is not so close to parties (15 mins)

Srithanu and zen beach are nice area to live

Thong sala (and south) for a me a bit busy

I’m looking to get a motorcycle driving license in Bangkok - seems like they require Residence Certificate from Immigration. Any chance to get it without spending a day on a trip to immigration office?

I just did it in Chiang Mai. If you have all your paperwork (TM30, copy of your passport's photo page + stamp page, headshot photo) then it's done in less than 15 minutes - and will be sent to you via postal mail to your address after 14 days (intentionally - to see if you actually live there). There is no express service anymore.

Seems like Vietnam is the easiest, just came back from Hanoi, took 5 business days.

You need your 90 day certificate and you don't need a photo for the residents certificate in Bangkok. If you have your 90 days, get there at 8 am before it opens and you can be done in an hour if you have all the right documents prepared. It takes a week to be posted

If you want to buy a bike from a shop then make sure to select both licence and purchase a car/motorcycle they're different certificates and you'll need to pay for both

Yeah I guess we both read it on the DTV Facebook group - I assume they reject people with “weak” cases like Muai Thai gym letters etc. I think if you’re a freelancer/business owner it’s quite safe.

I've not used the appointment system as it's normally booked a month in advance and I needed it sooner. If you go for a live queue make sure you get there at 8am or earlier. They break for lunch at 12-1.

Nice, the 90 day counters are in the same room as where you get your resident certificate. You could probably get it all done in the morning if you get an early appointment.

In Chiang Mai, I just got an apartment for 2 weeks at about half the rate of apartments on airbnb. They called themselves "serviced apartments" and do monthly rentals by default, and I didn't see them on the platforms. Not sure if it's a more general thing. (Greenhill apartments - I found out about them as I went to their pool)
