Why is Chiang Mai #107 on Nomads ahead of many US cities 3x as expensive and much less safe?
How to know if it's the first time I get dengue? I'm starting to have fever etc, i don't know what else could be
Also, which insurance can i get fast? I'm not insured
reffan 9d
The website (information) seems horribly outdated to me ๐Ÿคท also most hoodmaps tags seems to have stopped updating years ago
reffan 9d
Getting insured whilst already ill and abroad is an interesting approach. Don't think many insurers will allow that or be happy about it. That being said, I guess something aimed at nomads will be the best bet for now. Check ou5 SafetyWing, Genki?
i didn't get insurance because i was researching a good one cause most seems unreliable
reffan 9d
I think that's just the nature of insurance ๐Ÿ˜…
does anyone know a good hospital in phuket island? i'm under the phuket city in phuket island (i'm in the most south east point of phuket island). so i think the nearest place could be phuket city
elpol 9d
Me! I'm arriving in BKK 23/02
elpol 9d
You would have bone chilling fever like the worst in your life, weak like you cannot stand up. Trust me you would know.
Hi
It depends on what do you need to in hospital and if you have an insurance.
My friend got ear infection and we get her treated in Mission Hospital Phuket for free with insurance coverage
Hi everyone. Can you tell me where in Phuket is easier to breathe and less hot and stuffy in low season?
Some people suggest Nai Yang and Bang Tao areas. Which one is better? Or is there an even more appealing alternative?
What's the best hospital in phuket?
which insurance did she have?
I am not sure, it was a year ago, something simple, not genki
Which hospital do you recommend?
What did you in the end? I have the SAME issue with fever etc, and no insurance because I couldn't find one that seemed reliable and then I had other things to do and I still have to find one..
The fever was bad for the first 24 hours then subsided. Ended up roughing it out. Pretty sure it was the flu. The flu has been going around in the region recently. Lot of people getting it.

Buy a thermometer to track your temp. If it goes above like 104 then maybe go to the nearest hospital / doctor. Also if you experience anything out of the ordinary like confusion, rashes, etc

Otherwise, drink fluids and try to rest.

Also, ibuprofen helped with my symptoms more than Tylenol, so Iโ€™d go with that.
Yeah probably the same
But what if next time is dengue and not the flu? Or maybe this was just a mild first-time dengue , and then in the future there is risk of death with second infection
I need an insurance , and also a way to know if I ever got dengue , so that when I get it the first time (if it happens) i will immediately get the vaccine
Also i'm seeing the hospitals on gmaps and the reviews are crazy
Iโ€™m not a doctor so I canโ€™t really speak on that. But from what I understand dengue will be worse than the flu and will come with additional symptoms. So you should be able to tell. But of course if youโ€™re ever really concerned, definitely go to the doctor.

Iโ€™d ignore concerns over reviews / insurance in emergency situations. Do whatโ€™s necessary first.

But yeah, maybe try and get some insurance for the future.
Idk, but i megadosed vitamin c, vitamin e and vitamin d and now i feel much better after less than 24 hours
richaz 9d
Bangkok Hospital Phuket is def the best but also the most expensive one. I would recommend to contact your insurance first.
Actually I searched on google and found studies saying that vitamin d and vitamin c helped with dengue lol, but I think they couldn't hurt
๐Ÿ˜‚ only if i had one
first time I read about nomads insurances I was buying safetywing, then i read reviews on reddit etc saying they refuse claims
So I went into the rabbit hole of insurances, and basically the only one I could find that it's usually reviewed as good by "normal people" on the web (and not sponsors) is Cigna
but cigna costs too much, what I was looking for was something max โ‚ฌ100 per person / month, we are two people. cigna is like 200 per month per person at the base offer?

anyway, I heard about insurances also for only the places where one goes, so idk, for example thailand. if anyone can help, i'd greatly appreciate it.

I just want something to be anxiety-free in the mind about health etc, some people suggest high deductibles and just having bad accidents/things insured (to save money), but I think I'd need also for more simple things. being from italy , healthcare seems to be quite pricey when going to private hospital (in italy it's free but even going private seems cheaper there).
allgo 9d
Safety Wing has covered 85% of the stuff I threw at them. You need to know how to phrase your request to the doctor so it's not seen as preventative, and to have your documents in order
regiani 9d
Is this a good location to live for 1 month? https://maps.app.goo.gl/MXDbuRBGBihAaEvB7
oskars 9d
Depends on what you need. If it's your first time in Bangkok, this condo is quite far from the "center" and it will take a while to visit popular malls and landmarks. For first visits I recommend staying along Sukhumvit Line (BTS).
oskars 9d
Genki Explorer is under 50 EUR/month, plenty of good reviews, I use it for 2 years, had successful claims. Anyway, it won't help you with the current illness.
allgo 9d
Sounds too cheap to be true? 50 maybe if you're under 25?
oskars 9d
Oh yeah, I'm under 25
But safetywing, genki etc aren't the ones that manage the claims right? They just redirects things to the main company that does insurance? Is there any advantage in using them and not going directly with the insurance provider?
"had successful claims"
did you also have unsuccessful claims?
which kind of claims, if I can ask
oskars 8d
Yeah, genki uses Allianz. Genki covers internationally (excluding USA/Canada for my price) which I couldn't find on Allianz web-site, it asks for a "destination country" and doesn't allow to fill more than one.
oskars 8d
I applied only twice, both cases were related to dental treatment. One was root canal treatment with a crown, another one was related to fillings. Their limit for dental treatment is 500 EUR and they deduct 50 EUR for every claim. I didn't expect refund in both cases but got all money (minus 50x2 EUR) back.
elpol 8d
Avoid
my advice for most people would be get something walking distance to BTS green line (preferred), or maybe MRT blue line
if you know that you like being outside and value calmness/value over being close to the action, then maybe this area is ok. but in that case maybe you should just go to chiang mai instead?
anyone have recs for coworking spaces where people work late? i need to do EU hours sometimes, and it's annoying that paper plane project turns into a bar in the evening.
oskars 8d
The Hive, Thong Lo has plenty of seats and works 24/7 with AC on.
oskars 8d
Oh god I wish I haven't said it in a chat of 5k nomads
hive is only 24/7 with the 5000thb pass i think
gk 8d
Edit message; Replace with Starbucks ๐Ÿ˜‚
probably worth it for some people. i only go to coworking 1-2 days a week when i don't feel like being in the condo, so day passes are a better deal usually.
oskars 8d
They had a 10-day pass or something at the end of 2024, it can suit you but I don't have quotes now.
Hey - anyone in Koh Samui or Koh Phangan? Iโ€™m heading there for a couple months but not sure which has a better DN/startup community. Thoughts on which to choose?
(Originally I was gonna head to Chiang Mai but I heard burning season pushes people down to the islands)
ozandoz 8d
Hello, where can I find a coworking space in Bangkok that is open at night, has a garden, and allows smoking?
Where to do complete blood count or a blood test in general to know why I had flu like symptoms
in phuket
in the end i'm not going to the hospital
i researched a lot by myself and found alternatives, that , surprisingly , nobody mentioned before
elpol 8d
I found Sathon to be a quite nice alternative. Super quiet, great condos, and also has a couple of very local hoods
I'm in Phangan, there seem to be a lot of nomads here. I'm not involved in any community though, only sometimes on the smaller (but lovely) Koh Tao
regiani 8d
Favorite malls in Bangkok?
also, looking for a traditional thai dance show with dinner
One Bangkok near Lumphini vor me. Also liked Emquartier which might be closer if you're on or near Sukhumvit.
allgo 7d
Safety Wing uses Tokio Marine. Their adjudicators write poor English and aren't that smart
do you know how to order things from pharmacies in phuket?
with same day delivery, for example
is there something like "grab" but for pharmacies or a specific pharmacy chain or a specific pharmacy shop? simple question
Iโ€™m planning a long travel to Thailand ~6 months, will be there in 2nd March.
Any ideas for a luxury neighborhood I can stay in? Going to BKK, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.
Also any other places I should stay at?
write poor English and aren't that smart
Who has some nice workplace cafe recommendations for Koh Phangan?
And unrelated, a place to buy fridge magnets there lol
Just arrived in an Airbnb with unusable WiFi. Anyone know if itโ€™s possible for foreigners to get an unlimited 5G hotspot for 30 days?
Did some research, seems True is the only one that is unlimited and doesnโ€™t throttle hotspots. Anyone have experience with it?
reffan 6d
Been using dtac through Airalo for a month now, no issues yet. Non throttled, hotspotting all the time.
elpol 6d
Yep, in the past also used AIS as hotspot from my iphone, super fast and reliable
regiani 5d
Bangkok: Any conferences/events in the next 30 days? Tech, crypto, business
regiani 5d
Using True 10GB+ per day, 5G, 200mbps avg.
regiani 5d
Seems truly unlimited
Is the quality consistent ? Know of any network coverage maps ?
On the grab app it looks like they are not permitted to pick up from the ooh samui airport - who do you use for airport transfers in koh samui ?
reffan 5d
By far the cheapest was taking a songthaew and telling them where (along the main road) to drop you off.

Taxi wanted 1000 baht, songtaew did it for 200
gk 5d
Coverage map: t.ly/yWUEk
I've been using True Move H postpay in Thailand for 3 years now and I've never had issues with signal.
True is slightly better for 5G on Koh Lanta, which is why I chose it originally.
valkmit 5d
What places in Bangkok are best if Iโ€™m looking to meet entrepreneurial type people with a tech-oriented vibe?

I love to hear about projects people are working on and technical challenges theyโ€™re facing

does anyone have recs for thai language groups/meetups in bkk? ๐Ÿ™
hey guys! New here, looking to move to Thailand with a family of 5
we love Chiang Mai but the air quality is a serious concern for year-round living
how does anyone handle that?
especially with kids
I would definitely get an air purifier for your home
I would NOT move to Chiang Mai year round. Specially with kids
richaz 3d
Hey everyone, Iโ€™m in Chiang mai and thinking about doing a loop for 3-4 days. Any advice on this short period, where is worth to stay overnight and where to skip? Also, Iโ€™ve heard here about Pai, whats so special about it and why is attracting hippies?
Have you looked into the Mae Hong Son Loop ? Haven't done it myself but i've heard good things
Do they still check for onward travel for Thailand - getting tired of paying the onward ticket tax
richaz 2d
Yes, Iโ€™m talkin about Mae Hong Son Loop
elpol 1d
Depends on the officer
And as well depends on your stamp history, overstay and so on. If your history is clean, you always exit on time, never collect anything for your criminal record - nobody will bother (not a 100% guarantee though). You probably sense the direction. ๐Ÿ™‚
