I'm here now and was here in 2020 (during the whole pandemic), June 2023 and June 2024. It's certainly gotten more expensive. I go get coffees almost daily and a latte is usually just under $4 USD at a 1200 pesos per dollar rate. Basically double what it was in 2020 and 2023. A pulled pork sandwich at Bulls BBQ is $18, the Gran Bife for 2 dinner at Las Petunias or Doña is about $30 USD. There are some smaller places that still do a cash discount of 10%. The coffee shop Portus does a 20% cash discount. Riding the subte is about $1.30 now, and a bus depending on how far you go is $.50. It's nice that you can now pay for these with a credit card, by tapping it instead of a SUBE card when you enter, however I did find one bus yesterday that didn't take Visa/MC, so it's good to have a SUBE card with some value on it.

Because salaries rose higher than inflation and USD. Also, restaurant prices rose higher than general inflation, so many restaurants (which were living in a bubble) had to close

Because people normally aren't very good at math and numbers. They know about prices, but not purchasing power. Proof is that planes leave full, all neighbouring countries are full of 🇦🇷 doing shopping, etc .
Prices in pesos, FX rate, and purchasing power are 2 many variables for the average person to understand

Beef, electricity, gas, services in general, public transport, profesional services are among the cheapest in the region
