Hey girls, has anyone spent time in the Philippines? I'm considering going soon and was asking around for tips but had some feedback that it's dangerous for solo female travellers. I'm a very experienced traveller so I usually take things like that with a grain of salt but thought I'd check for other women's experiences too!

My girlfriend, who doesn't have a Nomad List account, is from Santa Cruz, Bolivia (see next message), but she lived with me for over 3 months in the Philippines. So not traveling solo, and she and I almost always went out together, but she went out a bit alone at times, including late in the night or early in the morning.

(Apologizes for stepping in as a man here, I'm just feeling chatty and want to get conversation going.)

She found Cebu generally to be really secure, more secure than Latin America in general. Same for BGC in Manila. Other places she felt less secure but she really thinks it's fine.

Beggars will be a problem if you look foreign, and some of them will be aggressive. In this sense, I had more problems than she did due to the way I look.
