Iโ€™m also in Lima until the end if feb if anyone wants to meetup
well if anyone is up for a beer/pisco tomorrow in the evening, let me know
majariusz 3mo
What is a picso?? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I have been TO Pisco ๐ŸคฃโœŒ๏ธ
majariusz 3mo
Oh shit I never had it. I was running on white wine when I visited ๐Ÿคฃ

This only in bars or bottled in supermarkets too?
I don't think I found a good wine here ๐Ÿ˜… pisco sour is a cocktail, so bars only or you can make it at home. It's made of pisco - about 40% strong alcohol that you can buy in almost any supermarket - ice, egg white and jarabe de goma (that's something like simple syrup)
and the pisco alcohol is from area of Pisco town where you've been to ๐Ÿ˜…

No neither have I ๐Ÿ˜‚โœŒ๏ธ
Hey ๐Ÿ‘‹ I will be in Lima 3 weeks in mid Feb/March, and plan to go to Machu Picchu. Probably the best option is to fly to Cusco and then find a transport there? Any tips before I book tickets? I saw some people take guides, but not sure if this is a necessary thing, can I do it just myself? What route do you recommend? I saw on the website that there are 3 - Panoramico, Clasico, Raleza. Thanks ๐Ÿ™
you're planning to go only for a weekend? Fly to Cusco, book a train (it goes from Ollantaytambo and usually there's a ticket bundle with a bus that takes you from Cusco to Ollantaytambo). About MP routes - I think it changed recently but just think about if you wanna go to one of the mountains there (Huayana - better views, more fun or Montana - higher, also nice). Previously route number 2 was the most iconic one, but not sure how it is called now. Oh and I recommend going in the morning, 6am - less people
you can spend a night in Aguas Calientes (MP town) and enjoy the hot springs there after MP
jeniapus 3mo
Agreed,if you only have 3 weeks you better go to other places, lima is boring as fuck
Go to paracas from lima ofc which is a must, other than that ,nothing special lol
Thanks guys!
agree, Lima is the least interesting place in Peru

Me planning my first trip to Lima reading this chat ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ‘„๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Haha

Yeah weather in Lima is terrible. Cloudy but never rains
I recommend Cusco or Arequipa as a base. Much more things to do, there are Selinas in both places so good internet. Lima is just another big city with some nice districts
I wish the weather would be the biggest problem in Lima
cd 3mo
Whatโ€™s biggest problem in ur opinion?
- bad city design/management
- air/noise pollution
reminded me CDMX, but Peruvian food is so much better
and not much things todo and everything is far away. There's just desert close to Lima
traffic is terrible as well
cd 3mo
I have similar thoughts too
cd 3mo
Shame thereโ€™s no well run big city 1M+ population in latam that Iโ€™ve found yet
cd 3mo
Oh yeah gotta love the Peruvian food
you don't use โ€œwell-runโ€ and โ€œlatamโ€ in one sentence ๐Ÿ˜…
I've stayed for 1 week just to visit Huacachina
alfraga90 3mo
Anything else?
marczrh 3mo
I am just back from a 5d group trip - Salkantay plus Machu Picchu (Shorter Trips possible). Can highly recommend :)

I went with a group via MachuPicchureservations .com which is budget (280usd) but good. If you wanna do it alone, take a bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and from there a train to Aguascalientes.

Donโ€™t forget to organize tickets for Machu Picchu. There is an official office in Cusco.

Circuit 2 (mostly sold out) is best where you see the most, Circuit 1 is smaller on the upper terrace only. Good for the perfect picture. Rest is not recommended.

Itโ€™s around 3000 steps up, quite exhausting but doable ๐Ÿ˜Ž there are also buses taking you up.
Awesome! Thanks!
Was it raining there? I saw the weather forecast and it shows only rain
marczrh 3mo
During our 5d trip, Yes! If you are lucky it wonโ€™t rain for 1-2 days. Would definitely bring a rain poncho as our guide said โ€œjust in caseโ€ with a big smile. the rain is thick and nasty ๐Ÿ˜†. Ponchos are available literally everywhere. Also get mosquito spray and thank me later :) They are nastier than the rain, mucho importante!!

Also try to get there as early as possible. We woke up at 4am to be there on the top at 6am, still reasonably quiet. We went back at 10am and the amount of people queuing was insane - in rainy season! ๐Ÿคฃ
alfraga90 3mo
Is there another way to arrive to Machu Pichu from Lima?
you go to Machu Pichu only through Cusco
alfraga90 3mo
Damn ๐Ÿ˜ž okay, thanks
Is a guide worth to have? I wonder if I can go myself only.
marczrh 3mo
Direct Bus or flight from Lima to Cusco, then book a seperate trip from Cusco to Machu Picchu
marczrh 3mo
Just to walk up and visit Machu Picchu, technically no guide needed. Itโ€™s just 3000 stairs up, no special path, taking about 1 hour.

Tours ans guides are quite affordable and you get everything you need, from tickets to transport for a reasonable price. You pay a little for convenience, imo worth it.
also if they guide is quechuas (Incas) then can explain everything in details, because for them its very important place
Ok thanks ๐Ÿ™
more questions guys ๐Ÿ™‚ just to confirm before I book everything.

My plan would be fly from Lima to Cusco (stay there 3-7 days), then go to Aguas Calientes (by bus/train?), stay there ~3 days), visit MP, go back to Cusco, fly back to Lima. Does it sound good?

From Aguas Calientes, if I book MP at 6:00, how do I get to MP (Circuit 2) a taxi/uber?
also, any hotel / apartment recommendations at Cusco or Aguas Calientes?
why 3 days in Aquas Caliente?

it's just a stop to Machu Picchu
ah got it, just to mentally prepare to wake up at 4-5 am ๐Ÿ˜„
so Cusco => Ollantaytambo (by bus) => Aguas Calientes (by train) - any recommendations where to book the tickets?
mylesd 3mo
Ollantaytambo would be a better spot to stay those extra days IMO. It's an awesome base for hiking.
but how do you get from Ollantaytambo to MP before 6 AM?
probably it's better to sleep at least on night in Aguas Caliente? Just can't see any places to stay there for march on Booking ;/
I mean, better, because you just get up and go directly to MP
am I right?
I always stayed one night in AC. Woke up at 4am and walked up there. Check also airbnb, I usually found something there just few days in advanced. After MP, you can relax in hot springs and go back. One day is enough there
anyone stayed in Mancora? How's the internet there? I know there's Selina with coworking but besides that, hostels/airbnbs have good enough internet for work?
marczrh 3mo
guudzhic Sounds good, almost how I did! Just the 3 days in Aguas Calientes are overkill, boring and not needed since you are already acclimatized
from Cusco. 1 night to get up and ready early is fine.

Walk from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, if you are not very very weak, you can do it!
Takes 20mins to the stairs and then 3k stairs up as a challenge ;) max 1h. Guides make it in 35mins.

Canโ€™t recommend an accommodation, everything we had was ok but budget. Would check booking.

Open Questions:
1) if possible, why not book one-way and continue the journey south side vs back to Lima?
nataly 3mo
I stayed at Selina and loved it. Great WiFi. A bit overpriced but so chill.
I can walk, just was worried about my things like computer etc. If I book one day, I need to leave them somewhere (probably will book a hotel) and then afternoon somehow get back to Cusco. Thanks!
marczrh 2mo
Fair. I am also traveling with computer. Hotels usually take care of your luggage. They are used to that. For our 5d trip, almost all my friends kept their luggage at the hotel in Cusco they went before the trip.
alfraga90 2mo
Is the tap water in Lima safe to drink? Anybody know?
jeniapus 2mo
no
jeniapus 2mo
its not safe to drink anymore , most of tap waters around the world are full with toxic heavy metals , flouride , and more shit you dont want to consume
jeniapus 2mo
anywhere
alfraga90 2mo
What about with a basic carbon filter? Or is it too toxic?
jeniapus 2mo
maybe i dont know
jeniapus 2mo
better to buy filtered water
Hey, whats the best district to stay in Lima if I come there for the first time and want to get know the city (walking preferably)
and the second question, do I need to book in advance a ticket from Cusco to Ollantaytambo or the mini vans they just go every some time without reservation?
simonu 2mo
There is regular transportation with mini vans. Our friend landed and got one within 2 hours. Seems to be easy
Miraflores. Close to ocean, lot of nomads/expats and safe. You can walk around or walk on Arequipa street to center.
there is lot of colectivos going there. Search for Estacion de colectivos para urubamba y ollantaytambo in google maps
Thanks ๐Ÿ™
arihoney 2mo
Hello everyone!! I would like to go to Paracas. Do you guys recommend?
arihoney 2mo
Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ
arihoney 2mo
Iโ€™m a bit concerned about Internet
neusvc 2mo
How long do you want to stay there? I would go in the weekend and work from Ica if you have to (there are some coworkings and cafes you can work from) or come back to Lima
arihoney 2mo
Thank you for the recommendation. I was planning to stay there during the week while working (enjoy the beach after work) and then do activities on Friday and go to Huacachina on the weekend.
arihoney 2mo
But if itโ€™s not worth it I could always change plans and go to Ica instead.
Iโ€™ll be going in two weeks
Speaking of Ica
Anyone else planning to go here?
