Hey Grischa. I get you're looking for the best way to tackle the tax residency. The key element is to distinguish between your personal and your business tax residency. I'm Polish, so my personal tax residency was there. In 2022, I switched my personal tax residency to Portugal, as their NHR program was a good fit for me. And because I'm already an EU citizen, there's no strict day-count requirement for me to be in Portugal. As long as I continue to pay my personal taxes in Portugal.

However, all my business activities are done via my UK limited company. I set it up in 2014, and all my remote work contracts are done via it. So I pay corporation tax in the UK from my business income. Regardless of where I am in the world.

From what I know, Germany is one of the strictest countries when it comes to tax residency. You'll need to explicitly state and prove that you moved your tax residency from Germany to Georgia. If after a year your tax residency isn't in Georgia anymore, then it may raise some suspicion in the German tax authorities.

In short, I'd advise creating a limited company and doing all your business activities via it. Only once you figure that out, can you start thinking about your personal tax residency.

I have travel insurance from my bank (LHV in Estonia), as part of my credit card. The fee is 7 euro per month, and includes medical, trip cancellation and delays. Worldwide coverage, including US and Singapore, for unlimited trips up to 90 days each. I have already used it twice (medical emergency, and travel delay), and in both cases got compensation super fast, and without any issues. I’m grandfathered on the old plan, now they have similar credit cards plans, but with 20 euro per month. So my first choice would be to check with your bank.
