On a $1,000 USD send the top ranked provider delivers EUR 848, worst ranked delivers EUR 802. So EUR 45 lands in rent or doesn't, same dollar amount sent. GBP to EUR is similar, around EUR 51 gap per 1,000 GBP.

Revolut and Circle hanging at the top. US and UK high street banks are the usual suspects at the bottom, eating 3-5% in hidden markup before you ever see it.

Anyone here in Portugal got a setup you swear by for getting USD or GBP into EUR? Wise + local bank, Revolut, stablecoin, some combo?

Yes this is an issue mainly because cafes are so tiny in Lisbon. Starbucks and Honest Greens are fine but finding power is (intentionally) rare. You can always ask though.

I never felt like I was unwelcome when working from A Padaria Portuguesa or Jeronymo café chains for a few hours. Lots of people doing the same.

Never an issue in 5 years, as long as you're quiet just spend a few hours top, and consume a minimum it's alright. And there are plenty of places.
If you take calls then it's another story.

Hey everyone! I’m a first‑time solo woman traveler in Portugal this August and I’m torn between exploring the north or the south. What would you recommend and why?

The south (Algarve) is good for beaches and outdoors activities, more of touristy beach town vibe. The North (Porto region) has more cultural activities, historical sites, etc, but this time of the year is also very good for outdoors stuff, there's the Gerés which is a huge national park where you can do mountain hikes and also has great river beaches. If you like pickleball there's a great place in Gaia (Porto metropolitan area) where I often play. Lisbon is the cosmopolitan big city, where you will never run out of things to do, but it's also the most expensive and sometimes can feel like a giant tourist trap.

Hey, my wife and I have been living in Nazare the past year and are looking to move to Lisbon area (renting for now). We were excited to find a place in Costa da Caparica to be near the beach, young and international people, and short commute into Lisbon.

We were about to confirm a year-long apt we liked, until we learned about the ongoing water shortage crisis that's been affecting that whole area for a couple weeks now... Some people we know are even planning to move elsewhere because of it.

Curious if anyone is living down there currently, whether you find it's still an area worth moving to, and any other insights into the situation! Thanks!

Hi! I lived in Costa da Caparica for two years, and last year I moved to Parede.

From my personal experience, I prefer this side. It feels calmer and cleaner, and getting to Lisbon is much easier. I also found that there are more options for schools, kindergartens, and activities for kids.

I’d recommend looking in Oeiras, Carcavelos, Parede, São João do Estoril, or Estoril, depending on your budget and what kind of lifestyle you’re looking for.

NHR 2.0 is more expensive but it's still cool with 0% on foreign dividends and 0% on capital gain, if you want I can introduce you to my tax guy

From what i see the most common structure is Wyoming LLC + Portuguese NHR

Important to mention that if you’re the only shareholder of the company, and you pay yourself through the LLC, and you’re operating from Portugal, the government can fine you and charge taxes in reverse. Even with NHR 1.0.

All I can say is that if you own 100% of the LLC, and providing a service from Portugal, and file taxes as dividends, there’s risks to it. You know what they say “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is”

Yes, most countries in the world could say this company is actually from their country where you are operating it. Its quite complex and it depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Even consulting lawyers won’t give you the best solution for you, unless you go with international taxation agencies specialized in those kind of setups

IFICI needs to be proved each year. Mostly any type of research/ teaching or at least board place/ ownership of the startup.
Tax people over there instruct good about the full list and can discuss with you case peculiarities.
