Want to do Bolivia in 2025 for 2 months. Would stay in La Paz for a minimum of a month - worth it to do another city or rather do weekend trips and remain in La Paz?

Hi everyone, I'm flying through Bolivia to get to Peru. After doing some research, I found out that the accommodation in Bolivia is not that bad, so I would like to stay longer. Do you know if this is possible and if a flight out of the country is necessary?

It's generally recommended to have a ticket out of the country in South America. And it's usually the airline asking for it, not the actual immigration.

Hello! Anyone got experience with car rental in bolivia? The offers are quite expensive in comparison to neighboring countries. Which firm did you use and what was your experience?

May be easier to just hire a driver. In 2022 I paid around 350$ for a three day trip from La Paz to Uyuni and back (it's 1000km+ distance in total).

Hey Boris :) actually I heard this from other travelers too. The price is almost on par with the vehicle rental though. Was the car any good? I.e. 4x4 that could ride in uyuni

No it was a crappy sedan but I didn't care much. I was there in dry season, so you didn't really need a 4x4. In the rainy season ofc, 4x4 is a must. But I also suspect not every driver even on a 4x4 will agree to the salt flat itself. Maybe one of the options is to get there by any car and then just jump to an 4x4 offered by the locals (but I don't know if it's that easy or not)

There are locals offering tours near uyuni with appropriate vehicles. Actually good point it might not be worth to do the whole journey on a 4x4. anyway thanks for the info, I wasn't so sure about the state of the roads, if a crappy sedan can make it so can I.

The road from La Paz to Uyuni is fine (if you're planning on going from there)

The surface of the salt field may be quite tricky, it might not be the best idea to go by yourself anyway.

actually a close acquaintance of mine got stuck there and almost froze in the minus degrees during the night lol so I am not planning to hahah

I know, I actually walked on the field alone in the middle of the night for like three hours, it was definitely minus 😂 but it was a colder season as well

Unreliable. I think I've seen some photos of people travelling there in April and it didn't look appealing. The color of the surface is muddy/brown in between the seasons. So it's neither mirror nor crystal-white like in the dry season.
