Hey guys. Iโ€™m currently in Brazil thinking of going to Colombia next. Iโ€™m considering Pereira or Santa Marta as a first stop. Anyone who has been to either I would love to hear your experience. Iโ€™m a bit fried on Medellin.
pablos 3mo
Pereira has a town feeling, Santa Marta itโ€™s at the beach, lots of party there
pablos 3mo
Beach in Santa Marta is not great btw
pablos 3mo
Better san Andrรฉs island
felipezap 3mo
Iโ€™ve heard bucaramanga is great
felipezap 3mo
Cali is up and coming
felipezap 3mo
Found a new hike outside of Medellin
felipezap 3mo
I paid a tour guide to take me to the best cliff jumping spots
felipezap 3mo
Itโ€™s in Cisneros
felipezap 3mo
The tour was 55k cop with lunch
felipezap 3mo
No transportation
branaust 3mo
san andrรฉs is good for 4 days max. not ideal for long term stay.
branaust 3mo
i stayed for 8 days. cheapest non-shit hotel was 110 a night and it was still shit i got sick.
branaust 3mo
the beaches are the most beautiful iโ€™ve ever seen. but trust me youโ€™ll be ready to leave after a few days
rcsligar 3mo
I enjoy hiking a lot, I only knew of parque arvi when I was there, went on others outside of Medellin
phn 3mo
I think Santa Marta can be nice, loved the vibe on the weekend trip and so many nice restaurants. But the nice beaches are a bit further away, but could be nice for some nice weekend trips

Hello guys, any recommendations for staying in Bogota? what are the best zones to stay at if you want to stay on the safe side and also close to the center?
๐Ÿšจ Hey everyone, quick heads-up!

I got scammed by a fake "Honda" dealership listed here on Google Maps in Bogotรก: https://g.co/kgs/t4vpzkz

They look legit with lots of good reviews, but it's all fake. I transferred money for a motorcycle and never received anything โ€” they used real-looking invoices, insurance, and even pretended to be from Avianca Cargo. Total scam.

I lost $7,000 CAD in this scam lol.

Iโ€™ve already filed reports with the police, embassy, and the bank, but we need to get this Google Maps listing taken down ASAP to prevent others from falling for it.

Please help by:

1. Leaving a 1-star review explaining itโ€™s a scam.
2. Clicking the โ€œSuggest an editโ€ > โ€œClose or removeโ€ > โ€œDoesnโ€™t exist hereโ€ to flag the listing.

Thank you so much ๐Ÿ™
On another note, Iโ€™m in Guatapรฉ right now โ€” if anyone wants to hang out, let me know!
lludol 3mo
It's better to stay in the north. From Chapinero to Usaquen it's safe and you have nice/fancy bar/restaurants.
lludol 3mo
And just take Uber (very cheap) to go to the center (I guess by center you mean Candelaria)
rickalon 3mo
wherever the action is really, doesn't have to be center, but the main nightlife
lludol 3mo
Yes you will be close, you have a lof of club / bars in the beginning of Chapinero and in different area the more north you go.

But for the accommodation it's better more up north. I was staying next to Theatron club, it's better to take something a bit more in the north, Theatron area is like the border between the hood and the normal area there ๐Ÿ˜…
lludol 3mo
Here the best area for the accommodation, it's safe you can even walk around.
rickalon 3mo
thank you man i appreciate it, are you there at the moment?

Planning a 4 day trip in April to Santa Marta, any recommendations on what to see? What are the best beaches? Restaurants? Where to snorkel? What places to see
lludol 3mo
No but I stayed there 3 weeks in January. Now I am going to Barranquilla then Santa Marta and will be back in Bogota for a few days in April from 12 to 17
Anyone going to stereo picnic?
Iโ€™m in bogota for the festival, would be nice to hangout as well :)
lukejstr 2mo
Anyone playing Pรกdel in Bogotรก?
felipezap 2mo
Hey has anyone gotten a nomad visa for Colombia and knows what health insurance to get?
lludol 2mo
I don't have a nomad visa but I am using SafetyWing (I am now on their remote package) and I used it in the past in Spain for the residency so it should work also for Colombia
rcsligar 2mo
How is Bogotรก lately? I stayed in chapinero briefly last year but didnโ€™t like it that much, I heard usaquen is a better option
lludol 2mo
Hey, so I did Cartagena and now Santa Marta. Do they have beaches where it's not private (condo / hotel), no music, no bar / restaurant, no guys trying to sell me something, just a normal quiet beach?
Does it even exists in Colombia (Caribbean coast)?

I heard the pacific coast is like that but difficult to access.
felipezap 2mo
Capurgana is like that, its a hidden beach in El Choco. You can take a flight to acandi and then take a boat there. It is nice and very peaceful.
Palomino is a very quiet town near Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, it was super chill its literally a one street town. i dont think anywhere in south america you're gonna get a chill beach unless you're in a non touristic area! this town was my favourite beach in colombia
lludol 2mo
Thanks, for my next visit that
lludol 2mo
Alright, next week I will visit Tayrona and sleep on the coast so I will be able to also check Palomino, thanks!

Yes I know for South America, it was the same (worst ๐Ÿ™ˆ) in Brazil (Rio) but for example I went to Bocas in Panama, it was chill and nice. But for Colombia you don't seems to have non touristic area, even the most remote beach has hundreds boats coming and bar/restaurant ๐Ÿ˜‚
yeah going to the beach in brasil is such an activity but i love it ๐Ÿ˜‚
Someone in santa Marta? Looking for friends to hangout with:))
lukejstr 2mo
Usaquen is more quiet
For me it depends heavily where you stay in Chapi!
rcsligar 2mo
Itโ€™s fairly easy to access from Buenaventura, and definitely much more quiet and raw. I recommend visiting there
phn 2mo
Thereโ€™s also some sellers in the beaches around Palomino, but nothing serious and itโ€™s just a few par day.

Iโ€™m currently in Palomino, and I am really enjoying it. Definitely recommending it!

Or maybe this place is also worth a visit: https://maps.app.goo.gl/STJ5G3om7PaThXTp6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

felipezap 2mo
Looking forward to meeting any other nomads
felipezap 2mo
What have you liked best about palomino, Iโ€™m visiting at the end of the month
phn 2mo
Itโ€™s a very chilled town, maybe this is what Bali was many years ago. Also love the dogs and the beaches around here.

A few fancy hotels/apartments in the making. Lots of hippies/and a few meditation options

Wifi is not great everywhere, so itโ€™s a perfect place to do nothing
tomas2503 2mo
Hey everyone,
I'm considering coming to Colombia for a year. How's the safety situation there nowadays?
lludol 2mo
Dress like a local (ex: if they don't wear shorts, don't wear one), don't go to weird (poor) places alone, take accommodation in safe (rich) area and it will be all good! And if you are still scared, just use Uber! (based on what locals told me and my experience, 3 months in Colombia)
lludol 2mo
By the way, if anyone is in Bogota, just send me a message. I am here for the next two weeks!
phn 2mo
I have my 3rd months coming up now, and I didnโ€™t have any issues so far even that with my height I cannot fake of being a gringo.

Mainly stayed in Laureles/Belen in Medellin so far but also did some short trips around here in Antioquia and to the Coast

I can really recommend safety wise, although maybe it helps that I donโ€™t party much and always take Ubers at night
felipezap 2mo
What city are you going to?
tomas2503 2mo
The nicest one ๐Ÿ˜ I know I want to go to a Spanish speaking city in Latin America and stay for a year. I still haven't decided on a country. I'm looking for somewhere pleasant to live for a longer time, affordable and preferably warm. I have on my shortlist at the moment Colombia, Argentina, San Salvador and Ecuador. I'd appreciate opinions of people who have spent time in different Latin American countries.
felipezap 2mo
I would recommend Medellin, pretty good weather, lots of things to do, great people.

Been here for 5 months with my fiancรฉe and itโ€™s been great
markus 2mo
Ecuador was nice to travel around for 4 months. Quito and Cuenca get quite cold and I found it really boring after a week
Hey! Iโ€™m heading to a few cities in the country soon and would love to connect with other nomads or expats while Iโ€™m there. If you know of any local groups, chats, events, or ways people stay connected in different spots, Iโ€™d really appreciate a quick DM. Just looking to tap into the local vibe a bit ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks so much in advance!
nthnjns 2mo
Any can't miss spots in Ecuador? If I'm planning a month in Colombia should I still make an effort to visit?
markus 2mo
I loved Ecuador. Galapagos islands are amazing and affordable if you book hotels directly, the Amazon was great, Cuenca is a foodie paradise
Cuenca is a foodie paradise? how so? I spent a month there. food was ridiculously cheap, and there were some good restaurants, but hardly a foodie paradise (IMHO). Tiesto's and Cositos were pretty good on the higher-end scale, and there were good, cheap local places. what did I miss?
markus 2mo
Yes, for a week. Tiesto was nice but I liked other places more (both cheap and high end)
nthnjns 2mo
Ok thanks for the info

hey guys
any meal prep recommendations in MDE?
I tried xmeals. They were ok. Let me know if you find a good one?

Hi, question about Santa Marta region, going there soon.

Which areas would you recommend to stay?
Considering factors like safety, beach clean for swimming, internet, restaurants, nature.

Initially I was looking at these options: Santa Marta center, Rodadero, Taganga, Bello Horizonte.
Let me know about them or any other nice area.
Thanks
Howโ€™s Bogota these days in terms of nomad popularity, safety, etc?

Iโ€˜ll return to LatAm end of this year and Bogota will likely be where I land.

Wondering how long itโ€™s worth staying for.
viewdean 1mo
Stay in Rodadero. I lived there for a long time and the coast of Colombia for about 2 years.
