Uhm yes you basically learn passively by just going about your daily life 😁 imo colombians speak pretty clearly and slowly (and are happy to help if you don't understand). Pair that with duolingo for absolute basics or any other course of your choice (recommend personal trainer, they're dirt cheap) and your skill will increase rapidly. Spanish is a very easy language

Where do you recommend finding a personal trainer?

I learnt it in Mexico City. I used BaseLang for 1on1 tutoring focused on speaking. Then practiced with locals.

Last year in Medellin I brushed up my Spanish by hanging out with locals who didn’t know English. The find you more than you find them if you are open to it 😉

It depends on your learning style. DuoLingo won’t get you far 🤣

how hard is appartment hunting in medellin? Im now in asuncion and its really bad, they usually only do 12 months deals foreigners/nomads are often required to pay the full lease upfront. Is it like that in columbia as well or is it more relaxed?

I know someone who has many monthly rentals. Many AirBnBs are open to direct deals as well

It's not hard. Medellin is offering a lot of places for reasonable price. I would recommend Laureles for safe, calm and affordable environment with a lot of great places. Poblado is not as good as it used to be but still it's one of the safe districts. I am sure you will find a nice place that you feel comfortable.

Is there anything going on in Bogotá? I've been to Medellin couple of times before the pandemic and it was cool but curious about Bogota. My other other option is Mexico City which is a safe bet, good cafes, lots of activifes, nice walking areaa, etc.

Are you still in Poblado? I move back to Medellin on Monday. I like Laureles much more and looking for an apartment there but Poblado has nice spots. I know tons of events in Poblado and Laureles. The language exchange at Black Flora had some nice locals when I was there earlier this year. I have to check my list for regular events in Poblado.

Hola, Scroll up a few posts and there is a video from someone who stayed in Bogotá for 3 months.
I only stayed in Bogotá for a few days but my buddy lived there for years and recommended El Chapinero. I really liked it. Bogotá is cold, has a lot of traffic, is polluted and the people tend to be much more closed up than in the rest of Colombia.
Colombians say that restaurants are better in Bogotá than in Medellin but I still have to find these. A Chinese expat just recommended Bao to me for authentic Chinese food.

I have spent quite a bit of time there and the guy who made the video did a great job.

Ah good to hear. For now I’m in Merida for another week and will head to Medellin next week.
