Heya, anybody in Tallinn tonight ?

Hey Daniel, the rates are confusing, since social tax is paid on top of gross income (ie gross income PLUS 33%), and income tax is subtracted from you gross income (gross income MINUS 22%).
As a business owner, what I do in practice is to transfer myself to my private account let’s say €1,000 NET at the end of the month. Then my accountant does the calculation of how much my gross income would be, and how much social tax there’s to pay. And then she sends me an email saying: please transfer €705 to the tax office (from company’s account). So to me, doing plain math, tax office wants over 70% markup on top of whatever lands in my account as net amount (doesn’t matter to me how they label me: social tax, income tax or any other tax. I still transfer them the money to the same account, and the money is gone from company’s account).

Anyone spending the summer in Tallinn? I am considering going there in July and wondering what’s scene there. Is there a nomad community? How is easy is to meet people there? I’m interested in meeting other nomads, bootstrappers, entrepreneurs. I also enjoy other activities like hiking and dancing (salsa/bachata).

Not sure how the situation is now but several years ago I stayed at Citybox they have spaces for co-working and a common kitchen so it was easy to socialize. It was quite fun and I met other digital nomads and entrepreneurs there and we are still in touch.

I’ll be mostly in Tallinn from late May, until mid-September. For the rest of the year it’s also my home base, but I’m away most of the time somewhere warmer.

I haven’t met a lot of nomads here, from my experience it’s rather expats, that are in Tallinn for longer term. I only work from home, haven’t checked out any coworking spaces yet (I’m planning to this year).

About dancing, I’m more into lindy hop, and there’s a small, active community here for that. With Latin dances, last summer I saw quite a few open-air socials (in old town, and by the beach), so I assume it’s pretty good too.

For the summer, Tallinn is a nice place, it’ll be my second year spending the summer here. No crowds, clean, very good level of English.

Yeah I've been reading good things about Tallinn during the summer. The only thing that makes me think is the acommodation, most airbnbns are over $2,300 arund this time. What do you think about Kesklinn area? I'm checking a place close to Stockmann

Stockmann vicinity is just an “old school” traditional CBD area, where big banks are. At night it gets super deserted, and I don’t think it’s particularly interesting. The most interesting place for most people would be somewhere around “Teliskivi” area (startups, bars, cafes, events). You can also check Rotermanni (my personal favorite, but it’s not where the most action happens). Or Noblessner, also a very nice growing, modern area.

Attending 2 events in Tallinn so if u are into Biohacking or SEO you can at least pop into the parties with their party pass. I’m sure a lot of those people are like us and stay a little longer. Last year there was Mindvalley U and I attended a couple of their parties and side meetups. I also was in TLL for 1.5 months total so I’ll prob head to Tartu in June- early July.

Sounds good to me. I’m going to the same conference as Nattha, SEO Estonia, on July 9-11, so these dates would work out for all of us. I’m leaving Tallinn for 2 weeks on July 23rd, but other than that no travel plans for July.
