hey guys, thinking to post up in Marseille for three weeks in July. Looking at a place next to plage des catalans around the corner from the vieux-port. I'm giong with my girlfriend, i like the idea of swimming in the sea every morning there, eating some good food and using it as a good start point for local trips (rhone valley, Avignon, Lyon and some more local spots like les calanques, toulon etc.

I read bad press online about the place but equally i've heard people saying great things and even French people saying a lot of younger people are moving there from the more expensive cities.

would appreciate some opinions!

Hello, I don't know Marseille, but usually, in big cities of France, it will depend on where you will be. Some areas are safe, others are less safe (especially at night). North area of Marseille ("quartiers nords") are known to not be safe at all. Maybe check Marseille hoodmap to see what people think about areas : https://hoodmaps.com/marseille-neighborhood-map
