I’ve had the Minaal carry-on 3.0 and daily 3.0 for about 4-5 years and feel okay about them - the 4.0 versions are coming out soon. I went down a rabbit hole on the current state of bags the past few months. My shortlist now would be Evergoods civic travel bag, Able Carry Max EDC, Rework Gear Toshi or Outbound, and Fyro (brand Aaron from the nomads nation youtube channel started) - probably their Citta 25L… I just got a Pioneer Carry Panda Pack as a bit of a polar opposite of the Minaal, but I wouldn’t say it’s in any way best for a digital nomad, I just needed one that doesn’t look too out of place when wearing a suit.

Anyone tried Peak Design Travel 45L?

Peak Design for me has been too heavy, and I’d be worried the 45L would be hitting size limits too… but I’m mainly in asia where the 7KG limit is brutal..

Heyy, I’ve used the bags below for the first half of this year and never regretted my decision:
1. Forclaz Travel 500 Organizer: 40L, a lot of pockets, really really practically placed. Whomever designed this bag is honestly my hero. I used this as a regular backpack. It fits cabin baggage criteria, never had to hand it down.

Then I also carried this hung in front of me:
2. Rains rolltop backpack: I was traveling to SEA for the first time so I wanted to protect my tech against rain. This bag is super rain-proof, and dries really fast. A lot less pockets but enough to carry basic gear.

Note that I packed very light, like no more than 4-5 outfits. But the combo did serve me well for 5 months.

I cannot understand why you would want to stay next to Bui Vien, as someone living here for a year. Bui Vien is the walking/drinking street in TP.HCM and will blast out your eardrums. It is nowhere near the volume levels of the red lights in Bangkok. It's also about as peak tourist area as one can find in the city, so sky high price is to be expected as Vietnam is currently having a huge tourism boom

Prices are still quite reasonable a much farther distance away from D1

Grab is also quite cheap compared to other locations like Thailand, and significantly less scary speeds with helmets required by law. Significant walking is pretty rare as a primary form of transportation right now, but the city is trying to change that slowly

Random question: I’m considering getting a second passport mainly for diversification, not for travel.

Given my nationality/lifestyle and how cheap they are, Panama (~5 years) and Paraguay (~3 years) seem like the most interesting options. The main thing for me is that I don’t want to significantly change my lifestyle or spend most of the year in one country. Ideally I’d maintain the residence properly, keep whatever local ties/assets are needed, visit a few times a year, and still be free to travel.

I’d consider citizenship-by-investment too if some cheap-as-fuck opportunity came up 😅, but I’m generally not interested in spending hundreds of thousands just for another passport as mine is already very strong (EU)

Has anyone here:
- actually obtained citizenship after ~3 years in Paraguay or ~5 years in Panama?
- done it while spending relatively little time there?
- found any other low-cost, low-physical-presence routes worth considering?

Also curious whether you think pursuing a second passport purely for long-term diversification is actually worthwhile.

The CIP programs in the Caribbean are unbeatable, usually the entry level tiers are "donations", but at a slightly higher tier / willing to lock up ~300-500k of capital in a real estate purchase gets you the passport too

You mentioned you don't want to pay a few hundred k, but you're willing to maintain a residence there - this is how you'd structure it - purchase real estate and hold the property, which I think ties in neatly with what you already stated you were willing to do

I would say, if you can afford one (either by CBI or by changing your life in a way for few years to meet the criteria) - get one.

It really depends on your threat model.

If you’re a little bit dodgy and just want to avoid being drafted into a hypothetical war then having any two passports might help.

But if you’re a lot dodgy then maybe it’s hypothetical extradition over serious charges that you want to avoid and so you’ll need two unfriendly countries passports.

Thats worse than paying personal tax on the profits. A Spanish-resident company files Impuesto sobre Sociedades on worldwide income, with Spanish accounts behind it. More money doesn't change the test. It changes whether real substance somewhere else is affordable
