Can anyone suggest a site where we might be able to get a lamp for little or no cost? Something like Freecyle in the UK. We need a floor lamp for the next couple of months.
ep05313 2mo
Thank you!!
alexeev 2mo
Btw check a flee market in your city. For example in Madrid, thereโ€™s one that is taking place every sunday in the city center and you always can find smth interesting and cheap.
I am flying into Madrid from Paris and need to obtain a declaration of entry at the airport.
Anyone got experience with this?
alexeev 2mo
Yeah, you go to terminal 4 and find the police station there. Be prepared because in my case they didnโ€™t speak any English
Thanks. Do I need anything beyond passport and visa?
alexeev 2mo
I don't remember much tbh. Maybe they'll ask your boarding pass, otherwise I don't think they need anything else
Thank you. My Spanish is pretty non existent. So fingers crossed.
This is quite encouraging!
So this form is available online? I will just prefill it as well.

Anyone in Valencia that wants to grab a drink this week? I just arrived
Anyone have a tax advisor recommendation. Due to my other tax obligations in India and US, I need a personalised service than something that xolo.io can offer. So just loooking around for local options, that are reasonaly priced.
hey is anyone on the digital nomad visa for Spain? is it true you need to pay 24% of your income tax a year?
on top of US taxes?
or anyone on a student visa?
I am looking for someone to go camping and work remotely with in Catalunya
Anyone in Sevilla for the weekend?

However, weโ€™re based in Lisbon, so if you plan to be there some day my DMs are open ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

stasjs 1mo
I do surf, also do surf & turf, so letโ€™s catch up ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ
Have been in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria now for 3 weeks and is pleasantly surprised. This city suits me well, very easy living with beach, hikes etc. Anyone else here in Las Palmas?
ep05313 1mo
Anyone in Valencia our going to be here soon up for a chilled meetup after Fallas?
How is Barcelona lately? I lived there for a year and a half, miss it sometimes, but it's gotten so expensive and crammed full of people + the anti-tourist mentality seems to come out even toward people like us who live there long term
f145h84ck 1mo
This is the cheapest you can get. But it is very basic.

https://www.google.com/search?q=peluquerias+low+cost+barcelona
f145h84ck 1mo
Too crowdy and expensive. It is too fancy to me. I do prefer Andalucia for a combination of good weather and reasonable prices. And locals speaks Spanish (Andalucian is a dirty version of it) unlike in Catalonia. ๐Ÿ˜

My fav part is Huelva and surroundings. Currently in Punta Umbria and so far I like it the most from Spain's south. Great green nature around and it is not that hot as around Mรกlaga due to the Atlantic Ocean.
mikegwhit 1mo
someone on a FB group said spain is going communist and anti-american?
mikegwhit 1mo
i'm doing light research as of now for august/september for spain and am looking for recommendations. in my head i'm mostly looking for hiking, being in spain to continue speaking spanish, be around old cute streets, be around other travelers ideally so that if i want to speak english socially for a day i can
mikegwhit 1mo
i speak at between a a2/b1 FWIW
f145h84ck 1mo
I am not entirely sure FB is a great source of information in general.

Spain is definitely not going towards communism.

Socialist party is in power for quite some time already, but you cannot compare it with the real socialism (which is more to the right on political spectrum then communism) which I have experienced in Czechoslovakia more then 30 years ago.

Yes, Spain has e.g. progressive tax. Not everyone likes it, but I don't feel it a real problem at all.

It is very pro-American in my experience. Celebrating lot of US imported holidays like Halloween or amount of fried food especially in Andalusia is something very pro-American in my experience.

It might be different in other autonomous region, but I hear that for first time honestly.
f145h84ck 1mo
That's already enough to handle a daily situations. There are still lot of English native speakers living here for several years speaking no Spanish at all and sometimes it may be harsh experience in a daily situations.
f145h84ck 1mo
Summer is pretty hot down here in Andalusia (30ยฐC+ during summer sometimes peaking over 40ยฐC) so it is not best for productive work as well as I am always hiking mostly in spring and autumn, but almost never during the summer due to the high heat.

Mรกlaga is famous for a good combination of mixture of local and foreign vibes. It is about 1,5h drive to Sierra Nevada to one of the highest hikes available around Spain. I really like Granada for it's combination of student vibe, rich social life, and it is just next to Sierra Nevada.

I've enjoyed living in Frigiliana a lot, which is a cute village in between Mรกlaga and Granada. Good entry point for hiking for sure. One of the pueblos blancos combining rich local and foreign vibe.
mikegwhit 1mo
Yeah these types give gringos in MX a bad name
mikegwhit 1mo
GPT tells me I should go to Astoria / asturia and I guess train to Barcelona for maybe only a week
mikegwhit 1mo
It seems like many things are a day ride by train? Could I feasibly go from asturia to Portugal (ericicia) and Barcelona?
f145h84ck 1mo
North of Spain has beautiful nature, but it is overall colder then south. Depends on your preference. But it is indeed one of the Spanish regions with beautiful nature.
Been in Madrid for a week now and probably gonna be here long. Hit me up when you in town would be happy to hangout / grab a coffee.
f145h84ck 1mo
Not everywhere are high speed trains. Train is usually the most expensive option to travel, but you can work in the train sometimes when mobile data available. BlaBlaCar is very popular car sharing application which can make your travels faster, cheaper and you can meet likewise open minded people on board.

I would suggest to give it a try and check your route for the available rides, travel times and pricing.
Me and my wife are here for the month atleast, possibly more. We speak close to no spanish and are only just picking it up. It can be difficult every once in a while, but people are nice and generally helpful. So you should be perfectly fine.
mikegwhit 1mo
any weirdness about being a tourist and getting cash/rental cars?
Haven't rented a car, but the Airbnb host asked for our passport copies. From what I checked, seems to a new rule and standard procedure.
As for cash, only place it is needed is if you don't have a card attached to your uber. I am not sure why it did not let me use my international credit card. But other than that, almost all places seem to accept cards.
mikegwhit 1mo
es super divertido para aprender amigo, vale
mikegwhit 1mo
you couldn't withdraw del banco?
vale ๐Ÿ™‚
This was my word of the day!
mikegwhit 1mo
haha you can get by just reading body language and saying, "vale!"
true.
But again, people seem nice enough and adjust with our broken english. And then there are some who help with corrections as well. ๐Ÿ™‚
If you need cash, you can always use an international debit card. Seems to work, but the conversion rate + markup is as bad as expected.
f145h84ck 1mo
Never experienced problems with cash withdrawals here.

With foreign debit card you have to pay the fee of 3,5 EUR per withdrawal.

With new banks (Revolut, Wise) debit cards there is no fee. You're only limited by your withdrawal limit based on your subscription
f145h84ck 1mo
Can you be more specific what is a weirdness in that context?

Most of the rentals needs driver to be 21+ years, asks for damage deposit ranging from 300 to 1500 EUR depending on the provider. If credit card used, they just block it. Not every rental company allows you to use debit cards for deposit. Those who allows that, they charge your debit card for the agreed amount as it is not possible to block it like in the case of credit card.

Golden rule specifically to be safe to rent a car anywhere is to posses at least one credit card.

E.g. in PT most of the rental companies doesn't allow debit cards.
elpol 1mo
This sentiment is vastly exaggerated. Try to choose a not touristy area, and itโ€™s mostly normal friendly people living their lives. Source: Iโ€™m a local.
I agree, and I lived farther out for that reason, but I definitely noticed big changes between when I lived there in 2018 vs 2022-2023. Just curious if anything has changed, there are so many videos of anti tourist stuff, and I look like a tourist even if I lived there for years :)

Madrid people: Any recommendations of good coffee places to work (a couple of hours) or cool plans this week? ๐Ÿ™ƒ
Osom coffee. they have several location across the city (one near atocha station as well). and onve of the best coffee in the city.
Real Coffee - Brunch en Chamberรญ Madrid - I really liked their food.
9 Lives Specialty Coffee & Brunch - Big place and a few large tables for coworking.
Green Coffees Roasters Specialty Coffee - Good coffee, great vibe. a little smallish.
Most of these are around Chamberi area. I am here and work from cafes quiet often. Would love to meet a fellow traveler.

Not really, itโ€™s like a game where they try to charge as much as possible while you try to keep it as low as you can.
Doyouspain.com is where youโ€™d typically start
sossho 19d
There are tricks to how youโ€™d go about this.
I rented 50 times in the past , with company card back then, so I know the game

Hi everyone, anyone knows where to open a bank account in Spain with NIE but no permanent residence ?
banco santander.
sossho 18d
NIE is mostly given with permanent residence, bummer youโ€™re yet to get yours.
There are not any banks -online or offline- that would open a bank account in spain without residency (not that I know of).

Best is to try Zen, it is incredibly difficult and expensive, you may be able to open a bank account in other European countries (without residency), but not Spain
Hi y'all any nomads in Alicante?!
dimuuu 16d
if you only need Spanish IBAN you could open an account in N26
tarumu 15d
Anyone knows if there are any social coworking places in Valencia? :) With some afterwork events and whatnot

I would like to know too :) didnโ€™t find yet

There is a meetup with their own WhatsApp group and they started organizing co-workings.
The event is this one

i also had luck with sabadell
I lived in Barcelona 2022-2023 and was able to get the empadronamiento due to having a european partner + a sabadell bank account + a lease. Now I'm no longer with that person and I moved back to the US for a while. But I'm looking at the visa options in Spain again. Anyone do the D7 recently?
Iโ€™m heading to a few cities in Spain and would love to connect with expats or nomads on the ground. If you know where people usually stay connected locally (wink wink ๐Ÿ˜„), feel free to DM me. Not looking to post anything public โ€” just hoping to stay in the loop while Iโ€™m there. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™
Hey nomads! Anyone knows a great Coliving space in Valencia?

Hey All we have been living in Spain now for 5 months and after doing a bit of researchโ€ฆ and assuming that it would existโ€ฆ we realised there really arenโ€™t any couple focused tour groupsโ€ฆ but there are for singles and familiesโ€ฆ

1. Do you know of any couple focused tour groups?
2. For now we created a Facebook group for couples wanting to meet other travelling couples specifically travelling Europe

Let me know if anyone is interested in something like this ๐Ÿฅฒ
